Die japanische Reederei Shin Nihonkai Ferry hat sich von ihrem Kreuzfahrtschiff PACIFIC VENUS (IMO 9160011) getrennt, das bislang für ihre Tochtergesellschaft Venus Cruise Line gefahren war. Käufer ist die südkoreanische Gesellschaft DuWon Shipping, die das Schiff in EASTERN VENUS umbenannt hat.
Nach einem Werftaufenthalt in China soll das Kreuzfahrtgeschäft mit dem Schiff aufgenommen werden. Südkorea hatte bislang nicht an dem asiatischen Kreuzfahrt-Boom partizipiert.
Die EASTERN VENUS wurde 1998 in Japan gebaut, ist 183 Meter lang mit und 26.594 gross tons vermessen.
PACIFIC VENUS sold to South Korean Owners
The Japanese shipping company Shin Nihonkai Ferry sold their cruise ship PACIFIC VENUS (IMO 9160011), which had previously sailed for their subsidiary Venus Cruise Line. The buyer is the South Korean company DuWon Shipping, which has renamed the ship EASTERN VENUS.
After a refurbishment stay on a shipyard in China, the cruise business on the South Korean market is to start with the ship. South Korea had not yet participated in the Asian cruise boom.
The EASTERN VENUS was built in Japan in 1998 and is 183 meters long and measured at 26,594 gross tons.
Am 10. Dezember 2023 wurde die SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR (IMO 9877444), jüngster Flottenzugang bei Regent Seven Seas Cruises, in Miami getauft. Taufpatin war Sarah Fabergé, Urenkelin von Peter Carl Fabergé, dessen Ei-Kunst-Kreationen weltweite Berühmtheit erlangt haben und für puren Luxus stehen.
Sarah Fabergé enthüllte während der Tauffeier auch das allererste dauerhaft auf See ausgestellte Fabergé-Ei, welches den Namen „Journey of Jewels“ trägt. Danach taufte sie das Kreuzfahrtschiff offiziell auf den Namen SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR, indem sie eine Flasche Champagner am Bug zerschellen ließ.
Die SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR ist nach der SEVEN SEAS EXPLORER und SEVEN SEAS SPLENDOR das dritte Schiff der Explorer-Klasse von Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Sie wurde am 13. November 2024 von Fincantieri Ancona abgeliefert, ist mit 55.254 gross tons vermessen und hat Platz für 746 Passagiere.
SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR ceremoniously christened
On December 10, 2023, the SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR (IMO 9877444), the latest addition to the Regent Seven Seas Cruises fleet, was christened in Miami. Godmother was Sarah Fabergé, great-granddaughter of Peter Carl Fabergé, whose egg art creations have achieved worldwide fame and represent pure luxury.
During the christening ceremony, Sarah Fabergé also unveiled the first-ever Fabergé egg on permanent display at sea, called “Journey of Jewels.” She then officially named the cruise ship SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR by smashing a bottle of champagne on the bow.
The SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR is the third Explorer class ship for Regent Seven Seas Cruises after the SEVEN SEAS EXPLORER and SEVEN SEAS SPLENDOR. She was delivered on November 13, 2024 by Fincantieri Ancona, is measured at 55,254 gross tons and has space for 746 passengers.

The new consortium between Viking Line and Gotlandsbolaget will be called Birka Gotland. Accordingly, the ship that was previously called BIRKA STOCKHOLM will be renamed BIRKA GOTLAND.
The new company will start cruise operations from the end of March 2024. The first mini cruise from Stockholm to Mariehamn and back will take place around Easter 2024. CELESTYAL OLYMPIA about to be scrapped?
Built in 1981 / 1982 by Wärtsilä in Helsinki, Finland, as SONG OF AMERICA for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line: the CELESTYAL OLYMPIA (IMO 7927984). Celestyal Cruises has operated the cruise ship since 2012, initially under the name LOUIS OLYMPIA. With the purchase of the AIDAaura from AIDA Cruises a few weeks ago, Celestyal Cruises no longer have any use for the 41-year-old CELESTYAL OLYMPIA. Given her age, it is unlikely to find a buyer for the “old lady” to continue operating her as a cruise ship. It is therefore expected that the CELESTYAL OLYMPIA will soon set course for a scrapping yard.
Ab Mai 2024 mit Villa Vie Residences auf große Weltreise gehen
Mit Villa Vie Residences tritt ein neuer Player auf dem Kreuzfahrtmarkt auf. Villa Vie Residences wollen eine mindestens 3,5-jährige Kreuzfahrt anbieten, die bereits im Mai 2024 beginnen soll. Die Reise soll auch in Teil-Abschnitten buchbar sein.
Das Schiff
Laut CEO Mikael Petterson soll in Kürze bekanntgegeben werden, welches Schiff dafür erworben werden soll. Es gibt Hinweise darauf, dass es sich um die 1993 gebaute BRAEMAR (IMO 9000699) handeln könnte. Nach Plänen von Villa Vie Residences soll die Übergabe im Februar 2024 erfolgen, woraufhin ein Werft-Aufenthalt in Deutschland geplant ist. Mitte Mai 2024 soll das Schiff dann in See stechen.

The US cruise company Margaritaville at Sea is taking over the COSTA ATLANTICA from Costa Cruises. The cruise ship is scheduled to be deployed for 4- and 5-night cruises from Port Tampa Bay to Key West and Mexico starting in summer 2024.
The COSTA ATLANTICA (IMO 9187796) was built in 1999/2000 at Kvaerner Masa Yards in Helsinki. She is 292.56 meters long, measured with a gross tonnage of 85,619 and has space for up to 2,680 passengers.

Ninth ship of the Helios class completes the series
On December 4, 2023, the Meyer Werft, Papenburg, Germany, handed over the CARNIVAL JUBILEE (IMO 9851737), the ninth and final ship of the Helios class (Excellence class) to Canrival Cruise Lines,. The handover took place in Bremerhaven. Carnival Cruise Lines have now received their third ship in this series after the MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444) and CARNIVAL CELEBRATION (IMO 9837456).
The CARNIVAL JUBILEE is 345 meters long, 42 meters wide and has a passanger capacity of 5,228 in 2,687 cabins. After the upcoming transatlantic crossing, the CARNIVAL JUBILEE will be based in Galveston, Texas.
Am 1. Dezember 2023 wurde die CELEBRITY ASCENT in Fort Lauderdale getauft. Taufpatinnen waren die Schwestern Captain Sandy Yawn und Michelle Dunham. Captain Sandy Yawn is star of the US television show “Below Deck”; Michelle Dunham is the founder of the Jacksonville School for Autism. The two sisters christened the CELEBRITY ASCENT in the traditional way by smashing a champagne bottle on the bow of the ship. They were joined by the Greek brothers Captain Dimitrios Kafetzis and Captain Tasos Kafetzis, who are in command of the ship.
On December 3rd, CELEBRITY ASCENT, the fourth Edge class ship, started her inaugural season with a 7-night cruise to the Eastern Caribbean with destinations such as St. Maarten, St. Thomas and the Dominican Republic.

Bei TUI Cruises geht es Schlag auf Schlag: Nach dem ersten Aufschwimmen der MEIN SCHIFF RELAX (IMO 9862657) am 28. November im italienischen Monfalcone ist am 1. Dezember bei Meyer Turku die MEIN SCHIFF 7 (IMO 9851189) erstmals aufgeschwommen. MEIN SCHIFF 7 wird ein Schwesterschiff der MEIN SCHIFF 1 und MEIN SCHIFF 2. Über Das Aufschwimmen der MEIN SCHIFF 7 im winterlichen Turku freuten sich gemeinsam Tim Meyer, CEO von Meyer Turku, und Wybcke Meier, CEO von TUI Cruises.
Mit dem Aufschwimmen wurde ein Meilenstein in der Bauphase erreicht. Es folgt nun die End-Ausrüstung des Schiffs, das bis 2024 fertiggestellt werden soll
MEIN SCHIFF 7 wird 315,70 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 111.500 vermessen. Sie wird Platz für 2.894 Passagiere in 1.461 Kabinen haben. 80% der Kabinen werden Balkonkabinen.

Second new cruise ship launched for TUI Cruises within a week
Things are happening in quick succession at TUI Cruises: After the floating out of the MEIN SCHIFF RELAX (IMO 9862657) on November 28th in Monfalcone, Italy, the MEIN SCHIFF 7 (IMO 9851189) was floated out at Meyer Turku on December 1st. MEIN SCHIFF 7 will be a sister ship to MEIN SCHIFF 1 and MEIN SCHIFF 2. Tim Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku, and Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, were happy about the event in wintery Turku.
With the floating out, a milestone in the construction phase was reached. The final equipment of the ship now follows, the ship is scheduled to be completed by 2024
MEIN SCHIFF 7 will be 315.70 meters long and measured with a gross tonnage of 111,500. She will have space for 2,894 passengers in 1,461 cabins. 80% of the cabins will be balcony cabins.
Am 30. November ist auf der Fincantieri-Werft in Ancona die VIKING VELA erstmals aufgeschwommen. Sie ist das elfte Schiff der Venice-Klasse für Viking Cruises. Mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 54.300 und einer Passagier-Kapazität von 998 wird sie etwas größer als ihre zehn Schwesterschiffe.
Die VIKING VELA (IMO 9852432) soll Ende 2024 in Dienst gestellt werden. Ihre erste Saison wird sie im Mittelmeer und in Nord-Europa verbringen.

11th Venice Class Ship
On November 30th, the VIKING VELA was floated out at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona. She is the eleventh Venice Class ship for Viking Cruises. With a gross tonnage of 54,300 and a passenger capacity of 998, she will be slightly larger than her ten sister ships.
The VIKING VELA (IMO 9852432) is scheduled to enter service at the end of 2024. She is going to spend her first season in the Mediterranean and in Northern Europe.
Am 28. November 2023 wurde die NORWEGIAN VIVA in Miami getauft. Mit dabei waren David J. Herrera, President Norwegian Cruise Line und Harry Sommer, President + CEO Norwegian Cruise Line Holding. Taufpate war Luis Fonsi, Musiker, Sänger, und Produzent. Er taufte das Schiff offiziell auf den Namen NORWEGIAN VIVA, indem er traditionsgemäß eine Champagner-Flasche am Bug zerschellen ließ. Auf der anschließenden Party gab Luis Fonsi einige seiner Hits zum Besten, darunter „Despacito“ oder „Echame La Culpa“.
Mit der NORWEGIAN AQUA wird ein drittes, etwas größeres Schiff dieser Klasse gebaut.

Herrera, President Norwegian Cruise Line and Harry Sommer, President + CEO Norwegian Cruise Line Holding. Godfather was Luis Fonsi, musician, singer and producer. He officially named the ship NORWEGIAN VIVA by traditionally smashing a champagne bottle on the bow. At the party afterwards, Luis Fonsi performed some of his hits, including “Despacito” and “Echame La Culpa”.
Auf der Fincantieri-Werft im italienischen Monfalcone ist am 28. Elena Sperti, die Patin der Werft, zerschlug eine Flasche Prosecco am Rumpf der Mein Schiff Relax, eine italienische Tradition, um dem Schiff, seiner Besatzung und seinen Passagieren Glück zu wünschen. Gemeinsam mit Cristiano Bazzara, Direktor der Fincantieri Werft, drehte Wybcke Meier, CEO TUI Cruises, die Ventile des Docks auf, um die MEIN SCHIFF RELAX aufschwimmen zu lassen.
MEIN SCHIFF RELAX Floated Out
First InTUItion class cruise ship
The first ship of the InTUItion class, the MEIN SCHIFF RELAX (IMO 9862657), floated out at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, on November 28, 2023, marking a significant milestone in the construction phase. A small ship christening also took place on the occasion. Elena Sperti, an employee of Fincantieri, was selected as godmother.
According to the old Christian seafaring tradition, Pastor Roberto Benvenuto blessed the ship with prayers and holy water. Elena Sperti, the shipyard’s godmother, smashed a bottle of Prosecco on the hull of the Mein Schiff Relax, an Italian tradition to wish the ship, its crew and its passengers luck. Together with Cristiano Bazzara, director of the Fincantieri shipyard, Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, opened the dock’s valves to allow the MEIN SCHIFF RELAX to float.
Größtes Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt ist fertiggestellt
Am 27. November 2023 haben Royal Caribbean Cruises die ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) von der Bauwerft Meyer Turku in Finnland übernommen. Bei einer Vermessung von 248.663 gross tons und einer Länge von 364,75 Meter ist es das größte Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt. Die Übergabe, an der u.a. Royal Caribbean Group President + CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President + CEO Michael Bayley, Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer sowie 1.200 Besatzungsmitglieder teilnahmen, wurde im Aqua Dome des Schiffs gefeiert.
An Bord der ICON OF THE SEAS gibt es fünft sogenannte Neighbourhoods, eine Royal Promenade und einen Central Park, so dass es für die Passagiere vieles zu entdecken und erleben gibt.
Die ICON OF THE SEAS wird nun zunächst nach Cadiz in Spanien aufbrechen, um anschließend Kurs auf ihren Basishafen Miami zu nehmen.
Ein zweites Schiff der Icon-Klasse, die STAR OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829942), befindet sich bereits im Bau.

The world’s largest cruise ship is completed
On November 27, 2023, Royal Caribbean Cruises took delivery of the ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. With a measurement of 248,663 gross tons and a length of 364.75 meters, she is the largest cruise ship in the world. The handover, attended by Royal Caribbean Group President + CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President + CEO Michael Bayley, Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer and 1,200 crew members, was celebrated in the ship’s Aqua Dome.
On board the ICON OF THE SEAS there are five so-called neighborhoods, a Royal Promenade and a Central Park, so there is a lot for passengers to discover and experience.
The ICON OF THE SEAS will now set sail for Cadiz in Spain and then set course for her base port of Miami.

The Cypriot cruise company Celestyal Cruises takes over the AIDAaura (IMO 9221566) from AIDA Cruises. The cruise ship will be renamed CELESTYAL DISCOVERY and will probably replace the CELESTYAL OLYMPIA.

On November 13, 2023, Regent Seven Seas Cruises took delivery of their third Explorer Class ship, the SEVEN SEAS GRANDEUR (IMO 9877444). The 55,254 gross tons luxury cruise ship was constructed by Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. She has a passenger capacity of 746.
