Largest cruise ship ever built in Germany – already a ship with a history

With a length of 342 meters and a gross tonnage of 208,000, the DISNEY ADVENTURE is the largest passenger ship ever built in Germany. She is also the largest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

On January 4, 2026, the cruise ship set sail from Bremerhaven and ist now heading for the US East Coast.

Even upon completion, the ship has a fascinating history. Construction of the cruise ship began on March 8, 2018, with the first steel cutting at the MV shipyards in Warnemünde and Wismar, Germany. The client was Genting Hong Kong. The ship was to be named GLOBAL DREAM and was originally scheduled to enter service in 2020 for Dream Cruises, a Genting Hong Kong brand. A year and a half later, construction even began on a sister ship.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, both MV Werften and Genting Hong Kong went bankrupt. The GLOBAL DREAM, which was about three-quarters complete, was eventually sold to Disney Cruise Line after intensive efforts by the insolvency administrator. Disney then commissioned Meyer Wismar, a shipbuilding company specifically founded for this purpose, to complete the construction. Extensive modifications were made, including to the propulsion system and passenger capacity.

The final phase of construction took place in Bremerhaven in the second half of 2025, where the cruise giant, renamed DISNEY ADVENTURE, was officially handed over to Disney Cruise Line on December 16, 2025.  During 2026 the cruise liner will be repositioned to Singapore, from where it will offer short cruises.

The original client has since founded a new cruise company, Resort World Cruises, which was renamed Star Dream Cruises in 2025 and into which two cruise ships from the former fleet were transferred. The flagship of this company is still called GENTING DREAM, while her sister ship, the AROYA, has been sailing the seas for Aroya Cruises since 2025 after a refit also in Bremerhaven.
