COSTA VICTORIA wurde verkauft

Costa Victoria

COSTA VICTORIA was sold

Scrapping or floating hotel?

Costa Crociere sold their COSTA VICTORIA to Genova Trasporti Marittimi, which is controlled by the Genoese shipyard San Giorgio del Porto Group.

Costa had been planning for some time already to sell their COSTA VICTORIA. Under normal circumstances, a cruise company would very likely have been found that would have used the ship for cruising for a few more years. But due to the current situation of the Corona crisis, Carnival was obviously forced to sell to another buyer.

So far there is no statement by Carnival.

What happens to the cruise liner is questionable. The yard may scrap or prepare to scrap the ship. The San Giorgio del Porto shipyard is certified for ship scrapping and had already demolished the COSTA CONCORDIA.

But even a conversion into a floating hotel for shipyard workers is at least still conceivable.

In respect of Carnival Corporations’ announcement that it is to dispose of six ships in the next 90 days, I’m not sure if the six include (or exclude) Costa Victoria (just ‘sold’ to the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard) or Pacific Aria and Pacific Dawn, already sold to CMV but originally scheduled to be handed over 2021 – which, in view of news about CMV’s severe financial problems, may not now take place. But if these three ships are included in the six, this leaves a balance of three (un-named) to be disposed of in the next three months.

Almost unbelievable. After being touted as sold to San Giorgio del Porto shipyard, according to shipmag.it/ “Costa Victoria” has arrived in Piombino where, Mayor Francesco Ferrari announced, it will be demolished.
