Gnadenfrist für die APOLLO – 50jähriges Jubiläum

Die Société Apollo in Godbout, Eigner der vor 50 Jahren auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg gebauten APOLLO (IMO 7006314), wird die historische Fähre nicht wie geplant im September versenken, um sie zu einem künstlichen Riff zum Tauchen zu machen. Das Projekt wurde auf 2021 verschoben, da die Corona-Krise den Arbeitsplan für die Vorbereitungen verzögert hat. Die APOLLO soll in der Godbout Bay versenkt werden. Zuvor müssen jedoch Asbestplatten, Kupferdrähte für Strom- und Hydraulikleitungen entfernt werden. Teile der Inneneinrichtung und der technischen Ausstattung wurden bereits verkauft. Die Eigner-Gesellschaft hat damit etwa 50.000 US-Dollar eingenommen. Darüber hinaus soll ein Angebot für den Kauf der Schwimmwesten vorliegen. Damit ist auch klar, dass eine Re-Aktivierung als Fähre nicht mehr in Frage kommt. Da die Rettungsboote aufgrund ihres Alters von 20 bis 30 Jahren nicht verkäuflich sind, wird in Erwägung gezogen, daraus ungewöhnliche Unterkunftsmöglichkeiten in Form fester Zelte für die zukünftigen Taucher zu machen.

Vor 50 Jahren – am 29. April 1970 – wurde die Autofähre von der Meyer-Werft an die Rederi AB Slite übergeben. Die Fähre war die erste der sogenannten Papenburg Sisters.

Grace period for the APOLLO – 50th anniversary

Société Apollo in Godbout, owner of the APOLLO (IMO 7006314) built 50 years ago on  the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, will not sink the historic ferry as planned in September to make it an artificial reef for diving. The project was postponed to 2021 because the corona crisis delayed the work schedule for the preparations. The APOLLO is said to be sunk in Godbout Bay. Before that, however, asbestos sheets, copper wires for power and hydraulic lines must be removed. Parts of the interior and the technical equipment have already been sold. The owner company has thus raised approximately $ 50,000. In addition, it is said there is an offer for the purchase of life jackets. This also makes it clear that re-activation as a ferry is no longer an option. Since the lifeboats are not for sale due to their age of 20 to 30 years, it is considered to make unusual accommodation options from them in the form of fixed tents for future divers.

50 years ago – on April 29, 1970 – the car ferry was handed over to the Rederi AB Slite by the Meyer shipyard. The ferry was the first of the so-called Papenburg Sisters.
