Last Infinity Class Expedition Cruise Ship
The expedition cruise ship DOUGLAS MAWSON, operated by SunStone Ships and chartered by Aurora Expeditions, was christened in Sydney on November 27, 2025. The ship’s godmother was Emma McEwin, great-granddaughter of the Australian polar explorer and geologist Douglas Mawson. He became famous by leading the first Australian Antarctic expedition (Australasian Antarctic Expedition) from 1911 to 1914.
Emma McEwin christened the cruise ship in a special way, dedicated to polar voyages, with a block of ice instead of a bottle of champagne.
The DOUGLAS MAWSON (IMO 9992713) was built in 2026 at China Merchants Heavy Industries in Haimen. She is the last ship in the Infinity series, a line of smaller expedition cruise ships featuring the innovative X-Bow design.
