MARELLA DREAM auf dem Weg zur Verschrottung

Das Ende naht für erstes Kreuzfahrtschiff der Meyer-Werft

Am Haken des Schleppers CHRISTOS LXI befindet sich die MARELLA DREAM (IMO 8407735) derzeit auf ihrer letzten Reise nach Aliaga in der Türkei, wo sie verschrottet werden soll.

Das Kreuzfahrtschiff war das erste, welches auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg gebaut wurde. Es wurde 1986 als HOMERIC an die Reederei Home Limes übergeben. Der Cruise Liner war auch der erste und bisher einzige, der je zur Meyer-Werft zurückgekehrt ist, nämlich im Jahr 1989. Inzwischen in WESTERDAM umbenannt wurde das Schiff Ende 1989 / Anfang 1990 von 204 Meter auf 243,20 Meter verlängert.

Einige Jahre fuhr der Liner als COSTA EUROPA für Costa Crociere. Ab April 2010 war das Schiff als THOMSON DREAM für die TUI-Tochtergesellschaft Thomson Cruises unterwegs. Mit Umbenennung der Gesellschaft in Marella Cruises wurde das Schiff in MARELLA DREAM umbenannt.

Seit Oktober 2020 lag das Schiff aufgelegt in Griechenland.

The end is near for the first Meyer shipyard cruise ship

The MARELLA DREAM (IMO 8407735) is currently on the hook of the tug CHRISTOS LXI on her last voyage to Aliaga in Turkey, where she is to be scrapped.

The cruise ship was the first to be built by Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. She was handed over to Home Limes as HOMERIC in 1986. The cruise liner was also the first and only one to date to return to Meyer shipyard, namely in 1989. At that time the ship, meanwhile renamed WESTERDAM, was lengthened from 204 meters to 243.20 meters.

For a few years the liner sailed as COSTA EUROPA for Costa Crociere. From April 2010, the ship sailed as THOMSON DREAM for the TUI subsidiary Thomson Cruises. When the company was renamed Marella Cruises, the ship was renamed MARELLA DREAM.

The ship has been laid up in Greece since October 2020.
