OCEAN MAJESTY will remain with us – for now
Further use for one of the oldest cruise ships in the world
One of the oldest cruise ships in the world, the OCEAN MAJESTY has been berthed in Velsen, opposite Ijmuiden in the North Sea Canal, since mid-2023. It serves as accommodation for asylum seekers. In June 2025, it was announced that the authorities were seeking a more cost-effective alternative and did not want to extend the ship’s charter contract. This would likely have meant the end for the 60-year-old ship, which was built in 1965 as the car ferry JUAN MARCH (IMO 6602898).
Now the Dutch authorities have agreed with the owners on lower rates. This means that the OCEAN MAJESTY will remain at a berth in Velsen, Netherlands, until July 1, 2026. An option to extend until December 31, 2026, has also been agreed upon.
