CARNIVAL ECSTASY auf dem Weg zur Abwrackwerft

CARNIVAL ECSTASY

CARNIVAL ECSTASY on her way to the scrap yard

The end for another fantasy class ship

The Fantasy class ships were a series of 8 cruise ships built between 1988 and 1998 by Kvaerner Masa Yards in Helsinki (now Helsinki Shipyard). Five ships in this series have already been demolished: the FANTASY, SENSATION, FASCINATION, IMAGINATION and the INSPIRATION. Now follows the CARNIVAL ECSTASY (IMO 8711344), the second ship of this class, 260 meters long and measured at 70,526 gross tons. She is currently on her final voyage from Miami to Aliaga, Türkiye, where she is expected on November 7th,

This leaves the CARNIVAL ELATION (IMO 9118721) and the CARNIVAL PARADISE (IMO 9120877), which are also the two youngest ships in the fantasy class.

Die alten Carnival Cruise Liner verschwinden…

Carnival Ecstasy

The old Carnival cruise liners are disappearing…

Another cruise liner on the way to the breakers

Carnival Cruise Line got rid of several of their older cruise ships since 2020 already, such as CARNIVAL FANTASY, CARNIVAL INSPIRATION, CARNIVAL FASCINATION and CARNIVAL IMAGINATION. Some of them went straight to the scrapyard.

Although the CARNIVAL FASCINATION was sold to an Asian company that originally wanted to continue using the cruise liner under the name CENTURY HARMONY, this ship is now on its last voyage, namely to Gadani in Pakistan, where it is to be scrapped.

Carnival Cruise Line has now announced that it will also sell the CARNIVAL ECSTASY and CARNIVAL SENSATION. Built in 1991 and 1993 respectively at Kværner Masa Yards in Helsinki, the cruise ships are currently the oldest in Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet. It will be interesting to see whether a buyer will be found who will use the ships again or whether the two units will go straight to the demolition sites as well

Verlorene Cruise Liner 2020

Enchanted Capri

After the boom years in the cruise industry, the rather abrupt standstill came in 2020 as a result of the global corona pandemic. The longer this standstill lasted, the more the cruise lines came under financial pressure. Some therefore decided to sell their oldest ships. Some companies even had to file for bankruptcy, such as the British Cruise & Maritime Voyages and the Spanish-American Pullmantur Cruises. As a result, more cruise ships were scrapped in 2020 than they have been in a long time. While we had only reported a few scrapped cruise liners in the past few years (6 ships in 2018, 3 ships in 2017), it was a long list in 2020 – see above!

Furthermore, units that have been laid up for a long time already, such as the DELPHIN or the FUNCHAL, are meanwhile unlikely to have any chance of new missions.
