Die CELEBRITY ASCENT (IMO 9838400) wird ein nahezu baugleiches Schiff wie die 2022 in Dienst gestellte CELEBRITY BEYOND (IMO 9838395). Sie wird damit etwa 326 Meter lang bei einer Vermessung von etwa 141.400 gross tons. Sie soll bis Ende 2023 fertiggestellt werden.
Herausragendes Feature der Edge-Klassse von Celebrity Cruises ist der seitlich des Schiffs als „schwebende“ Plattform angebrachte „Magic Carpet“.

On January 21st, the fourth ship of the Edge class floated out on the shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France. The CELEBRITY ASCENT (IMO 9838400) will be almost identical in construction to the CELEBRITY BEYOND (IMO 9838395), which was commissioned in 2022. She will be about 326 meters long with a measurement of about 141,400 gross tons. She is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.
The outstanding feature of Celebrity Cruises‘ Edge Class is the „Magic Carpet“ attached to the side of the ship as a „floating“ platform.

As a continuation of the tradition of the legendary Orient Express trains, the Accor Group wants to commission the construction of the largest sailing ship in the world and thus enter the luxury cruise business. Chantiers de l’Atlantique and Accor have signed a memorandum of understanding to build two ships.

Bereits die Auswahl der Taufpatin für das Schiff war außergewöhnlich: Gesucht wurde eine „Wonder Mom“, eine außergewöhnliche Mutter.
Um die passende Patin zu finden, startete Royal Caribbean bei TikTok den Wettbewerb #SearchforWonderMom, bei dem 16.000 Videos gepostet und 10,6 Milliarden Hashtag-Aufrufe verzeichnet wurden.
Die Suche war abgeschlossen, als die Kreuzfahrtgesellschaft die Geschichte von Marie McCrea aus Pennsylvania hörte, die Geschichte einer hingebungsvollen Mutter, Ehefrau und Krebsüberlebenden, deren Geist ihre Familie und die Menschen um sie herum dazu inspirierte, sich auf Abenteuer zu begeben und trotz der Schwierigkeiten, die sie erlebten, jeden gemeinsamen Moment zu genießen.

On December 09, WONDER OF THE SEAS, Royal Caribbean’s newest Oasis-class cruise ship, was christened in Port Canaveral.

To find the right godmother, Royal Caribbean launched the #SearchforWonderMom contest on TikTok, which saw 16,000 videos posted and 10.6 billion hashtag views.
The search was complete when the cruise line heard the story of Marie McCrea of Pennsylvania, the story of a devoted mother, wife and cancer survivor whose spirit inspired her family and those around her to embark on adventures and despite the difficulties, they experienced to enjoy every moment together.

Two More Cruise Liners Beached For Scrapping
Built in Saint Nazaire, stretched in Bremerhaven, scrapped in Alang: SUPERSTAR GEMINI and SUPERSTAR AQUARIUS
The two sister ships SUPERSTAR GEMINI (last GEM; IMO 9008419) and SUPERSTAR AQUARIUS (last ARIUS; IMO 9008421) were beached in Alang, India on November 26, 2022 to be scrapped there. The scrapping of these two cruise ships is a consequence of the bankruptcy of Star Cruises, which belonged to Genting Hong Kong.
Both ships were built in the early 1990s by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire for Kloster Cruise, the predecessor company of Norwegian Cruise Line. The names were then DREAMWARD and WINDWARD, with transition in NCL changed to NORWEGIAN DREAM and NORWEGIAN WIND. The two ships were stretched from around 190 meters to 230 meters in 1998 at the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven.

Am 24. Oktober haben MSC Cruises ihr neues Flaggschiff von der Bauwerft, den Chantiers de l’Atlantique im französischen Saint Nazaire, übernommen. Am selben Tag wurde der erste Stahlschnitt für den Bau eines Schwesterschiffs, der MSC WORLD AMERICA, gefeiert.
Die MSC WORLD EUROPA ist das weltweit größte LNG-betriebene Kreuzfahrtschiff. Das Schiff soll laut Reederei-Angaben sogar in der Lage sein, mit anderen alternativen, CO2-neutralen Treibstoffen betrieben zu werden, sobald solche zur Verfügung stehen.

On October 24th, MSC Cruises took delivery of their new flagship from the shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France. On the same day, the first steel cut for the construction of a sister ship, the MSC WORLD AMERICA, was celebrated.
The MSC WORLD EUROPA is the world’s largest LNG-powered cruise ship. According to the shipping company, the ship should even be able to be operated with other alternative, CO2-neutral fuels as soon as they become available.
The 333.30 meter long cruise liner has space for up to 6,762 passengers in 2,626 cabins. She is measured with a gross tonnage of 215,863. With a Y-shaped stern structure and a 104 meter long promenade that is semi-open at the top, MSC Cruises want to set new standards.

AMBITION ex AIDAmira becomes a residential ship for refugees

Bei dem Kreuzfahrtschiff der Superlative handelt es sich um das sechste Schiff der Oasis-Klasses, dabei aber um das erste LNG-betriebene Schiff dieser Klasse. Damit wird die UTOPIA OF THE SEAS auch das weltgrößte mit Flüssiggas betriebene Kreuzfahrtschiff.

The superlative cruise ship is the sixth Oasis class ship, but the first LNG-powered ship in this class. This will also make the UTOPIA OF THE SEAS the world’s largest cruise ship powered by liquified natural gas.

The shipyard has thus handed over the cruise liner to Celebrity Cruises. The cruise ship is measured at around 140,600 gross tons, is 327 meters long and can accommodate a maximum of 3,937 passengers.
The maiden voyage of the CELEBRITY BEYOND will start on April 26 in Southampton. The 10-day trip goes around the Iberian Peninsula and ends in Barcelona.
Auf der französischen Werft Chantiers de l’Atlantique entsteht derzeit mit der MSC EURIBIA das dritte Kreuzfahrtschiff der Meraviglia-Plus-Klasse (nach MSC GRANDIOSA und MSC VIRTUOSA). Die MSC EURIBIA wird in der MSC Cruises-Flotte das zweite Schiff mit LNG-Antrieb sein.
Der neue Cruise Liner wird eine auffällige Rumpf-Gestaltung bekommen. Mit diesem Hull Artwork möchten MSC Cruises ihr Bekenntnis zum Schutz der Meere hervorheben. Das Design wurde über einen internationalen Wettbewerb ausgewählt. Gewinner des Design-Wettbewerbs ist der Dresdner Grafik-Designer Alex Flämig. Seine Gestaltung wird das Äußere der MSC EURIBIA zieren und damit die Botschaft von MSC Cruises in die Welt tragen.
MSC EURIBIA soll Anfang Juni 2023 abgeliefert werden und soll für ihre erste Saison in Kiel stationiert werden. Angeboten werden 7-tägige Kreuzfahrten in die norwegischen Fjorde. Gebucht werden kann ab sofort!

The MSC EURIBIA, the third cruise ship in the Meraviglia Plus class (after MSC GRANDIOSA and MSC VIRTUOSA), is currently under construction on the French shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique. MSC EURIBIA will be the second LNG-powered ship in the MSC Cruises fleet.
The new cruise liner will get an eye-catching hull design. With this hull artwork, MSC Cruises want to emphasize their commitment to protecting the oceans. The design was selected through an international competition. The winner of the design competition is the graphic designer Alex Flämig from Dresden, Germany. His design will adorn the exterior of MSC EURIBIA, carrying MSC Cruises‘ message to the world.
MSC EURIBIA is scheduled for delivery in early June 2023 and is going to be based in Kiel, Germany, for her first season. 7-day cruises in the Norwegian fjords are offered. Cruises can be booked from now on!
Am 2. Dezember 2021 ist auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique die MSC WORLD EUROPA aufgeschwommen. Die MSC WORLD EUROPA (IMO 9837420) ist das erste Schiff der MSC World Class. Das Kreuzfahrtschiff wird eine 104 Meter lange, halb offene, halb geschlossene Promenade mit Meerblick Richtung Heck erhalten, die sogenannte Europa-Promenade. On December 2, 2021, the MSC WORLD EUROPA was floated out on the Chantiers de l’Atlantique. Like the MSC EURIBIA, for which the coin ceremony was celebrated on the shipyard on the same day, this cruise ship will be powered by LNG. This means that MSC Cruises are also taking the next steps towards more environmentally friendly ships.
The MSC WORLD EUROPA (IMO 9837420) is the first ship in the MSC World Class. The cruise ship will have a 104-meter-long, half-open, half-closed promenade with a sea view towards the stern, the so-called Europa-Promenade. Further interesting and exciting details of the ship under construction can be found below in the fact sheet. MSC WORLD EUROPA is scheduled to start her first cruises in December 2022. She will spend the winter season 2022/23 in the Gulf region with Dubai as base port.

Am 27. November 2021 wurde die MSC VIRTUOSA von Film-Legende Sophia Loren getauft. Die Zeremonie fand diesmal in Dubai statt. Für Sophia Loren war es bereits die 17. Taufe eines MSC-Kreuzfahrtschiffs, nur 9 Tage nach der Taufe ihres 16. Schiffs.
Die MSC VIRTUOSA hat in diesem Winter Dubai als Basishafen, von wo aus sie noch bis März 2022 Kreuzfahrten in die Golf-Region unternimmt.
MSC VIRTUOSA (IMO 9803625) ist das zweite Schiff der Meraviglia-Plus-Klasse. Sie wurde 2018 bis 2020 auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire gebaut und im Januar 2021 an MSC Cruises übergeben.

On November 27, 2021, the MSC VIRTUOSA was christened by film legend Sophia Loren. This time the ceremony took place in Dubai. For Mrs. Sophia Loren it was the 17th christening of an MSC cruise ship, just 9 days after the christening of her 16th ship.
This winter, MSC VIRTUOSA has Dubai as her base port, from where she will continue cruises into the Gulf region until March 2022.
MSC VIRTUOSA (IMO 9803625) is the second Meraviglia Plus class ship. She was built from 2018 to 2020 on the Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire.
Im französischen Saint Nazaire wurde am 17. November 2021 auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique der erste Stahlschnitt für die CELEBRITY ASCENT gefeiert. Es handelt sich bereits um das vierte Schiff der Edge-Klasse für Celebrity Cruises – nach CELEBRITY EDGE, CELEBRITY APEX und CELEBRITY BEYOND. Die Schiffe sind jeweils 306 Meter lang und mit ca. 130.000 gross tons vermessen. Besonderes Merkmal dieser Kreuzfahrtschiffe ist der sogenannte Magic Carpet, ein vertikal bewegliches Deck auf der Steuerbordseite.
Die CELEBRITY ASCENT soll bis zur zweiten Jahreshälfte 2023 fertiggestellt werden.

Fourth Edge class ship under construction
The first steel cut for the CELEBRITY ASCENT was celebrated on November 17, 2021 at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France. It is already the fourth Edge class ship for Celebrity Cruises – after the CELEBRITY EDGE, CELEBRITY APEX and CELEBRITY BEYOND. The ships are each 306 meters long and measured with approx. 130,000 gross tons. A special feature of these cruise ships is the so-called Magic Carpet, a vertically movable deck on the starboard side.
The CELEBRITY ASCENT is expected to be completed by the second half of 2023.

MSC VIRTUOSA ist 331,43 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 181.541 vermessen. Sie verfügt über 2.440 Passagierkabinen und kann somit maximal 6.334 Passagiere aufnehmen.

She is the youngest ship in the Meraviglia-Plus class: the MSC VIRTUOSA (IMO 9803625) constructed in 2019/2020 on the Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France. She is currently doing her cruise laps around the UK, but her christening is still pending. This should be made up for, namely on November 27th this year in Dubai.
The naming ceremony will then be one of many events as part of Expo 2020, the start of which has been postponed to October 2021, and part of the Golden Jubilee program for the 50th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates.
MSC VIRTUOSA is 331.43 meters long and measured with a gross tonnage of 181,541. She has 2,440 passenger cabins and can therefore accommodate a maximum of 6,334 passengers.

Auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique im französischen Saint Nazaire wurde dieser Tage mit dem Bau der MSC EURIBIA begonnen. Dabei handelt es sich um das dritte Schiff der Meraviglia-Plus-Klasse und um MSC Cruises‘ zweites LNG-betriebenes Kreuzfahrtschiff. Nach Angaben von MSC Cruises wird die MSC EURIBIA das bisher fortschrittlichste Kreuzfahrtschiff in Sachen Umwelt-Nachhaltigkeit.
Die MSC EURIBIA soll im November 2023 in Fahrt kommen.

According to the announcement by MSC Cruises, the MSC EURIBIA will be the most advanced cruise ship to date in terms of environmental sustainability.
The MSC EURIBIA is scheduled to go into service in November 2023.
