Zweites Schiff der World-Klasse hat Probefahrten abgeschlossen
Die Chantiers de l’Atlantique im französischen Saint Nazaire sind in die finale Phase im Bau der MSC WORLD AMERICA (IMO 9837432) eingetreten. Zuvor waren die Probefahrten des Kreuzfahrtschiffs-Neubaus erfolgreich abgeschlossen worden. Während der Testfahrten waren Leistung der Motoren, Manövrierfähigkeit, Treibstoffverbrauch, Bremsweg und Sicherheitssysteme getestet worden.
Nach Abschluss der restlichen Arbeiten an Bord soll die MSC WORLD AMERICA am 27. März an MSC Cruises übergeben werden.
MSC WORLD AMERICA ist das zweite Schiff der World-Klasse und zugleich das 23. Schiff in der Flotte der MSC Cruises. Sie ist dann auch das Flaggschiff der Kreuzfahrtgesellschaft.
Die Taufe der MSC WORLD AMERICA soll am 9. April am neuen Cruise Terminal von MSC Cruises in Miami stattfinden.
MSC WORLD AMERICA: Delivery and christening dates
The Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France, have entered the final phase of construction of the MSC WORLD AMERICA (IMO 9837432). The sea trials of the new cruise ship were previously successfully completed. During the sea trials, the performance of the engines, maneuverability, fuel consumption, braking distance and safety systems were tested.
After the remaining work on board will have been completed, the MSC WORLD AMERICA will be handed over to MSC Cruises on March 27th.
MSC WORLD AMERICA is the second World Class ship and the 23rd ship in the MSC Cruises fleet. She will then also be the flagship of the cruise company.

Cruise companies are known to try to outdo each other and are always looking for new innovations as attractions on board their ships.

The Bazaar is the name of the new concept that is being introduced for the first time on the CELEBRITY XCEL. The idea behind it is to merge the experiences on land and on board.
The Bazaar will be a multi-story, multi-sensory space unlike any other cruise ship to date. This is intended to be the epicenter of the experiences on board. Kiellegung und erster Stahlschnitt auf der Werft in Frankreich
Auf der französischen Werft Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire wurden Ende Januar in einer doppelten Zeremonie zwei wichtige Meilensteine in einem außergewöhnlichen Schiffbau-Projekt gefeiert. Die Werft baut im Auftrag der Accor-Gruppe die beiden größten Segelschiffe der Welt. Dazu feierte man dieser Tage:
die Kiellegung der ORIENT EXPRESS CORINTHIAN (IMO 1050193)
den erste Stahlschnitt für die ORIENT EXPRESS OLYMPIAN (IMO 1050208)
Die beiden Schiffe, die die Tradition der berühmten Orient-Express-Züge fortsetzen sollen, werden jeweils 220 Meter lang. An Bord wird es jeweils 54 Suiten mit einer durchschnittlichen Größe von 70 Quadratmetern geben, darunter eine monumentale 1.415 Quadratmeter große Präsidentensuite, zwei Swimmingpools, darunter ein Sportbecken, zwei Restaurants und eine Speakeasy-Bar.
Auf den Schiffen werden jeweils drei SolidSail-Rigs, ein revolutionären 1.500-Quadratmeter-Einheits-Windantriebssystem, zum Antrieb des Schiffes beitragen. Dieses wird mit einem Hybrid-Antriebssystem, das mit verflüssigtem Erdgas (LNG) betrieben wird, kombiniert
Die Accor-Gruppe wird mit diesen Schiffen in den Luxus-Kreuzfahrt-Markt einsteigen.

Keel laying and first steel cutting at the shipyard in France
At the end of January, two important milestones in an extraordinary shipbuilding project were celebrated in a double ceremony at the French shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire. The shipyard is constructing the two largest sailing ships in the world on behalf of the Accor Group. The following were also celebrated recently:
the keel laying of the ORIENT EXPRESS CORINTHIAN (IMO 1050193)
the first steel cutting for the ORIENT EXPRESS OLYMPIAN (IMO 1050208)
The two ships, which are intended to continue the tradition of the famous Orient Express trains, will each be 220 meters long. On board there will be 54 suites each with an average size of 70 square meters, including a monumental 1,415 square meter presidential suite, two swimming pools, including a sports pool, two restaurants and a speakeasy bar.
Each ship will be powered by three SolidSail rigs, a revolutionary 1,500 square meter unit wind propulsion system, combined with a hybrid propulsion system powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The MSC WORLD AMERICA, the second World Class cruise ship for MSC Cruises, is nearing completion. She completed her second sea trials a few days ago and has just returned to the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France. The cruise liner is scheduled to enter service in April this year.

Celebrity Cruises ordering 6th Edge Class Ship
The French shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique has secured a follow-up order from Celebrity Cruises. The shipyard is to build the sixth Edge-class ship for delivery in 2028, which will be a sister ship to the CELEBRITY XCEL, which is scheduled for delivery in November this year. A special feature of the Edge-class cruise ships is the „Magic Carpet“, a multifunctional, vertically movable platform on one side of the ship.

Bei der Zeremonie ließen Jason Liberty, Präsident und CEO der Royal Caribbean Group, Laura Hodges Bethge, Präsidentin von Celebrity Cruises, sowie Laurent Castaing, General Manager von Chantiers de l’Atlantique, den ersten 739 Tonnen schweren Stahlblock für das neue Schiff absenken. Als Teil der langjährigen maritimen Tradition legten die Führungskräfte des Kreuzfahrtunternehmens und der Werft neu geprägte Münzen auf das erste Stück Stahl, um dem Schiff sowohl während der Bauphase als auch für zukünftige Fahrten Glück zu wünschen. Als Anspielung auf das gehobene Niveau der Edge-Klasse erinnerte das Münzdesign an eine weitere große Innovation: die Saturn-V-Rakete der NASA.
Im Herbst 2025 soll die CELEBRITY XCEL erstmals in See stechen. Ab November 2025 startet das Kreuzfahrtschiff ihre Eröffnungssaison mit Karibik-Kreuzfahrten von Fort Lauderdale aus. Auf den siebentägigen Reisen mit abwechselnden Routen werden die Bahamas, Mexiko, die Cayman Islands, Puerto Plata, St. Thomas und St. Maarten angelaufen. Die Reisen sind ab sofort buchbar.

Official Start of Construction for 5th Edge Class Ship
On June 13, the keel laying of CELEBRITY XCEL, fifth Edge Class cruise ship, was celebrated on the yard Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France.
During the ceremony, Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, Laura Hodges Bethge, President of Celebrity Cruises, and Laurent Castaing, General Manager of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, lowered the first 739-ton steel block for the new ship. As part of the long-standing maritime tradition, executives from the cruise line and shipyard placed newly minted coins on the first piece of steel to wish the ship luck both during construction and for future voyages. As a nod to the upscale nature of the Edge Class, the coin design recalled another major innovation: NASA’s Saturn V rocket.
The CELEBRITY XCEL is scheduled to set sail for the first time in autumn 2025. From November 2025, the cruise ship will start its inaugural season with Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale. The seven-day trips with alternating routes will call at the Bahamas, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Puerto Plata, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. The voyages can be booked from now on.
Am 14. Juni 2024 übernahmen Royal Caribbean Cruises ihr sechstes Schiff der Oasis-Klasse: die UTOPIA OF THE SEAS (IMO 9880001). Die UTOPIA OF THE SEAS bietet wie ihre Schwesterschiffe zahlreiche Unterhaltungsangebote sowie Restaurants, Bars und Pools. Mit dem Ultimate Abyss hat sie sogar die längste Trockenrutsche auf See.

On June 14, 2024, Royal Caribbean Cruises took delivery of their sixth Oasis-class ship: the UTOPIA OF THE SEAS (IMO 9880001). The superlative cruise ship, with a gross tonnage of 236,473 and a length of 361.12 meters, was built over two years by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique in France. She is the first of this class to be powered by LNG.
1,400 crew members and shipyard employees took part in the handover ceremony.
Like her sister ships, UTOPIA OF THE SEAS offers numerous entertainment options as well as restaurants, bars and pools. With the Ultimate Abyss, she even has the longest dry slide at sea.
The cruise liner will be deployed for 3- or 4-night cruises from Port Canaveral.

Für das dritte Schiff der World Class begannen am 10. April mit dem ersten Stahlschnitt die ersten Arbeiten am Bau. Ablieferung dieses Kreuzfahrtschiffs ist für 2026 geplant. MSC WORLD ASIA soll vom Innen-Design und den Einrichtungen an Bord vom asiatischen Kontinent inspiriert sein.

MSC WORLD AMERICA was floated out for the first time on April 7th. This ship is now entering the final construction phase and is expected to be completed by early 2025. The naming ceremony is scheduled for April 9, 2025 in Miami.
MSC WORLD AMERICA will receive the “Cliffhanger”, the first and so far only overwater swing. Passengers can swing 50 meters above the sea.
MSC WORLD ASIA – first steel cut
The first construction work for the third World Class cruise ship began on April 10th with the first steel cutting. Delivery of this cruise ship is scheduled for 2026. MSC WORLD ASIA is said to be inspired by the Asian continent in terms of interior design and onboard facilities.
Bereits jetzt planen MSC Cruises die feierliche Taufe ihrer MSC WORLD AMERICA. Diese wird die MSC Cruises Flotte ab 2025 ergänzen. Die Feierlichkeiten zur Namensgebung des Kreuzfahrtschiffs sollen am Abend des 9. April 2025 am PortMiami Terminal von MSC Cruises stattfinden. Geplant ist eine glamouröse Veranstaltung.

Die MSC WORLD AMERICA ist das zweite Schiff der MSC World Class und wurde speziell für den nordamerikanischen Markt konzipiert. Sie entsteht derzeit auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique im französischen Saint Nazaire.

MSC Cruises are already planning the ceremonial christening of their MSC WORLD AMERICA. She will be added to the MSC Cruises fleet in 2025. The cruise ship naming ceremony is scheduled to take place on the evening of April 9, 2025 at MSC Cruises‘ PortMiami Terminal. A glamorous event is planned.
The christening is also the start of MSC WORLD AMERICA’s maiden voyage. The voyages goes to MAC Cruises’ private island, Ocean Cay, where there will be an evening lighthouse show followed by a beach party.
MSC WORLD AMERICA is the second MSC World Class ship and was designed specifically for the North American market. The highlights on board include the open-air Esplanade and the covered World Galleria with bars, restaurants, shops and boutiques. In total, guests will find 13 restaurants on board, including 4 main restaurants, 6 specialty restaurants and 2 buffet restaurants. In addition, passengers can choose from 20 bars and lounges. 6 pools and 14 whirlpools, an impressive dry slide over 11 decks and an extensive water park with 11 water slides are part of the leisure activities on board.

She was handed over to Cunard on December 22, 2003 by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France. At that time she was the largest cruise ship in the world. She was christened by Queen Elizabeth II on January 8, 2004.
QUEEN MARY 2 has the ambience of the traditional transatlantic liners of the 20th century. She is used for both transatlantic passages and cruises. Today she is still considered one of the most popular cruise ships, not only among passengers, but also among shipspotters.

Kreuzfahrtschiffe mit zukunftsweisenden Technologien
Die beiden neuen Schiffe laufen derzeit noch unter den Arbeitsnamen WORLD CLASS 3 und 4. Diese werden nicht nur mit LNG betrieben, sondern werden darauf vorbereitet, mit anderen alternativen Treibstoffen betrieben zu werden, zum Beispiel Bio-Methan, synthetisches Methan und grünes Methanol. Die Schiffe erhalten darüber hinaus Landstromanschlüsse und modernste Abwasseraufbereitungssysteme.
MSC Cruises sind laut Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman von MSC Cruises, bestrebt, auf ihrem Weg der Dekarbonisierung voranzuschreiten und bis 2050 das Ziel, Netto-null Treibhausgase zu produzieren, zu erreichen.
Die beiden Neubauten sollen 2026 bzw. 2027 ausgeliefert werden. Die Option für den Bau eines fünften Schiffs dieser Reihe wurde vereinbart.

Mega cruise liners made in France
The Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France, secured fresh firm orders for the construction of two further World Class cruise ships for MSC Cruises. These two ships, each measuring approximately 216,000 gross tons and with a passenger capacity of more than 6,000, will be further developments of the MSC WORLD EUROPA and the MSC WORLD AMERICA, which is still under construction.
Cruise ships with pioneering technologies
The two new ships currently got the working names WORLD CLASS 3 and 4. These will not only run on LNG, but will also be prepared to run on other alternative fuels, such as bio-methane, synthetic methane and green methanol. The ships will also receive shore power and state-of-the-art wastewater treatment systems.
MSC Cruises is committed to advancing on its decarbonization journey and achieving its goal of producing net zero greenhouse gases by 2050, according to Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises.
The two newbuilds are scheduled to be delivered in 2026 and 2027 respectively. The option to build a fifth ship in this series was agreed.

Nach der Überführungsfahrt über den Atlantik wird die CELEBRITY ASCENT am 3. Dezember zu ihrer ersten Kreuzfahrt mit zahlenden Gästen aufbrechen. Start-Hafen ist Fort Lauderdale, Ziel ist die östliche Karibik. Bis Ende April 2024 bleibt die CELEBRITY ASCENT in Fort Lauderdale stationiert, bevor sie ins Mittelmeer wechselt, um Kreuzfahrten ab Barcelona und Civitavecchia aufzunehmen.

At Celebrity Cruises, one milestone follows the next. After the first steel cutting for the CELEBRITY XCEL on November 7th at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique, the shipyard delivered the sister ship CELEBRITY ASCENT (IMO 9838400), No. 4 of this series, just one day later on November 8th.
After the transatlantic crossing, the CELEBRITY ASCENT will set sail for her first cruise with paying guests on December 3rd. The starting port is Fort Lauderdale and the destination is the Eastern Caribbean. CELEBRITY ASCENT will remain based in Fort Lauderdale until the end of April 2024 before moving to the Mediterranean to begin cruises from Barcelona and Civitavecchia.

Celebrity Cruises versprechen einige Neuheiten an Bord der CELEBRITY XCEL, wobei beliebte Features wie u.a. der Magic Carpet, The Retreat und der Rooftop Garden sich ebenfalls an Bord wiederfinden werden.
Ablieferung des fünften Edge-Klasse-Kreuzfahrtschiffs ist für 2025 vorgesehen, erste Reisen sollen ab November 2025 stattfinden. Basis-Hafen wird dann Fort Lauderdale sein
First Steel Cut for CELEBRITY XCEL

Official start of construction for the fifth Edge class ship for Celebrity Cruises: The first steel cutting for CELEBRITY XCEL was celebrated on November 7, 2023 at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Royal Caribbean group and the shipyard.
Celebrity Cruises are promising some new features on board the CELEBRITY XCEL, with popular features such as the Magic Carpet, The Retreat and the Rooftop Garden also being on board.
Delivery of the fifth Edge class cruise ship is scheduled for 2025, with the first voyages scheduled to take place from November 2025. The base port will then be Fort Lauderdale

Die derzeit auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire in Bau befindliche CELEBRITY ASCENT ist von ihren Probefahrten zurückgekehrt. Die Tests, die in der Biskaya durchgeführt wurden, wurden von den beiden Kapitänen, den Brüdern Demetrios und Tasos Kafetzis, überwacht.
Die CELEBRITY ASCENT (IMO 9838400) ist das vierte Schiff der Edge-Klasse. Sie soll noch in diesem Jahr an Celebrity Cruises übergeben werden, um bereits am 22. November 2023 eine 4-Nächte-Preview-Reise in die Karibik ab Port Everglades sowie eine 3-Nächte-Preview-Reise zu den Bahamas ab 26. November durchzuführen
The CELEBRITY ASCENT (IMO 9838400) is the fourth Edge class cruise ship. She is scheduled to be handed over to Celebrity Cruises later this year in order to conduct a 4-night preview voyage to the Caribbean from Port Everglades already on November 22nd, 2023 and a 3-night preview voyage to the Bahamas from November 26th.
Auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique im französischen Saint Nazaire ist am 18. September 2023 die UTOPIA OF THE SEAS (IMO 9880001) aufgeschwommen. Sie ist das fünfte Schiff der Oasis-Klasse der Royal Caribbean International. Die Oasis-Klasse ist die bisher größte Kreuzfahrtschiffsklasse der Welt. Die UTOPIA OF THE SEAS wird das erste Schiff dieser Baureihe, das mit LNG angetrieben wird.
Das Aufschwimmen im Baudock dauerte ca. 15 Stunden. Bis zur Fertigstellung des Schiff werden aber noch einige Monate vergehen. Die UTOPIA OF THE SEAS soll erstmals im Juli 2024 mit zahlenden Passagieren in See stechen. Das Schiff soll dann für 3- und 4-Nächte-Kreuzfahrten mit Port Canaveral als Basishafen eingesetzt werden.

5th Oasis Class Ship
The UTOPIA OF THE SEAS (IMO 9880001) was floated out on the Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France, on September 18, 2023. She is the fifth Oasis class ship for the Royal Caribbean International’s fleet. The Oasis class is the largest cruise ship class in the world to date. The UTOPIA OF THE SEAS will be the first ship in this series to be powered by LNG.
Floating in the construction dock took about 15 hours. However, it will still be a few months before the ship will be completed. The UTOPIA OF THE SEAS is scheduled to set sail for the first time with paying passengers in July 2024. The ship will then be employed for 3 and 4 night cruises with Port Canaveral as the base port.
