Die COSTA SMERALDA ist ein Schiff der Excellence-Klasse. Sie wurde 2018 / 2019 bei Meyer Turku gebaut, ist 337 Meter lang, mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 185.010 vermessen und hat Platz für etwa 6.550 Passagiere bei maximaler Auslastung.

The Greek shipping company Seajets has sold its GODDESS OF THE NIGHT to China. The buyer is Tianjin Orient International Cruise Line. According to initial reports, the cruise liner will be renamed VISION, while other sources mention the name IDEAL.
Seajets had acquired the COSTA MAGICA (IMO 9239795) from Costa Crociere in 2023 and planned to use the GODDESS OF THE NIGHT under the Neonyx Cruises brand for party cruises in the Aegean Sea in 2024. However, these plans were never implemented.
The cruise liner is one of five ships in the Carnival Group’s Destiny class. The ship was built in 2003/2004 at Fincantieri in Sestri Ponente. It is 272.20 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 102,587. It can accommodate approximately 3,470 passengers.

The Vista class cruise ship CARNIVAL FIRENZE (IMO 9801691) was christened in Long Beach on April 24th. Godfather was the actor Jonathan Bennett. During the event he was made an honorary Italian. Carnival Cruise Line’s President Christine Duffy also joined the party. CARNIVAL FIRENZE’s baseport currently is Long Beach, from where she started her maiden voyage for Carnival Cruise Line on April 25th.

The US cruise company Margaritaville at Sea is taking over the COSTA ATLANTICA from Costa Cruises. The cruise ship is scheduled to be deployed for 4- and 5-night cruises from Port Tampa Bay to Key West and Mexico starting in summer 2024.
The COSTA ATLANTICA (IMO 9187796) was built in 1999/2000 at Kvaerner Masa Yards in Helsinki. She is 292.56 meters long, measured with a gross tonnage of 85,619 and has space for up to 2,680 passengers.
The cruise company Margaritaville at Sea emerged from the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, which was founded in 2014. It currently operates a former ship from the Costa fleet, namely the MARGARITAVILLE AT SEA PARADISE ex COSTA CLASSICA.

Start of the second career for the former Costa ship
On June 15, 2023, the first passengers boarded the CARNIVAL VENEZIA in New York City. The cruise ship, built as COSTA VENEZIA, had been transferred from Costa Cruises to Carnival Cruise Lines and was christened the new name CARNIVAL VENEZIA on June 15. Godfather was comedian and TV host Jay Leno. The ship had previously been blessed by Father Enrique Salvo of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. The christening ceremony also included a comedy show by Jay Leno.
The CARNIVAL VENEZIA (IMO 9801689) is the first ship of the Carnival Cruise Line under the motto „Carnival Fun Italian Style“. Die Erfolgsgeschichte einer italienischen Schifffahrtsgesellschaft
Ursprünglich bereits 1854 als Handelsunternehmen für Olivenöl gegründet, blickt man dieser Tage bei Costa auf eine 75jährige Firmengeschichte in der Passagierschifffahrt zurück. Das Reederei-Geschäft war bereits 1924 ins Leben gerufen worden, als die Brüder Federico, Eugenio und Enrico mit der RAVENNA ihren ersten Tanker gekauft hatten. Nach den drei Brüdern wurden später auch drei Kreuzfahrtschiffe von Costa benannt, die hohe Bekanntheit erlangten.
Der Einstieg von Costa in die Passagierschifffahrt begann aber erst 24 Jahre später: mit dem Start der ANNA C am 31. März 1948 mit 768 Passagieren on Genua nach Rio de Janeiro. Die ANNA C war Costas erstes Passagierschiff. Costa startete mit einem Liniendienst nach Montevideo und Buenos Aires, ab 1953 wurden mit der LUISA C und FRANCA C Dienste nach Venezuela und zu den Antillen aufgenommen.
In den Wintermonaten wurden mit der ANNA C und ANDREA C auch erste Vergnügungsfahrten im Mittelmeer unternommen – Costas erste Kreuzfahrten.
Die 1957 / 1958 gebaute FEDERICO C (IMO 5113230) war der erste Neubau für die Reederei Costa, die inzwischen als Linea „C“ auftrat. Bereits ab 1959 wurden mit der FRANCA C sogar erste Kreuzfahrten in die Karibik unternommen.
Ab 1967 wurde die Gesellschaft umstrukturiert, andere Geschäftszweige wie der Olivenöl-Handel wurden abgetrennt und verkauft. 1986 blieb mit der Costa Crociere schließlich nur noch der Geschäftsbereich Kreuzfahrten übrig. Zur Costa-Flotte gehörten seinerzeit legendäre Schiffe wie die EUGENIO C (IMO 6502024) oder COSTA RIVIERA (IMO 5137391), DAPHNE (IMO 5282627) und DANAE (IMO 5282483). Einen spannenden Lebenslauf hatte aber auch die FRANCA C, ursprünglich 1914 erbaut und noch heute existent. Sie ist jetzt ein Hotel in Indonesien (Doulos Phos The Ship Hotel).
1997 erfolgte die Übernahme der Costa Crociere durch die Carnival Corporation. Costa gehört heutzutage zu einem der großen Player auf dem Kreuzfahrtmarkt. Auch AIDA Cruises gehören schon seit längerer Zeit zu Costa Crociere.
75 years anniversary for Costa Cruises
Originally founded in 1854 as a trading company for olive oil, Costa can now look back on 75 years of company history in passenger shipping. The shipping business had already been launched in 1924 when the brothers Federico, Eugenio and Enrico bought their first tanker, the RAVENNA. Three very well known Costa cruise ships were later named after the three brothers.
However, Costa’s entry into passenger shipping only began 24 years later: with the departure of the ANNA C on March 31, 1948, with 768 passengers from Genoa to Rio de Janeiro. The ANNA C was Costa’s first passenger ship. Costa started with a scheduled service to Montevideo and Buenos Aires, from 1953 services to Venezuela and the Antilles were taken up with the LUISA C and FRANCA C.
During the winter months, the ANNA C and ANDREA C were used for the first pleasure trips in the Mediterranean – Costa’s first cruises.
The FEDERICO C (IMO 5113230), built in 1957/1958, was the first newbuild for Costa, who in the meantime appeared as Linea „C“. The first cruises to the Caribbean were even undertaken with the FRANCA C as early as 1959.

The cruise ships COSTA VENEZIA (IMO 9801689) and COSTA FIRENZE (IMO 9801691), which were actually designed for the Asian market and impress with their extraordinary interior design, will be relocated to America in 2023 (Venezia) and 2024 (Firenze). There they will be integrated into the Carnival Cruise Line fleet, but will keep their names. Costa by Carnival is the name of the new concept that aims to bring the „Vibe of Italy“ to America.
Like the CARNIVAL VISTA, CARNIVAL HORIZON and CARNIVAL PANORAMA, the two cruise ships belong to the Vista class.

There is further movement in the Carnival Group fleet. The COSTA LUMINOSA (IMO 9398905) will be handed over to Carnival Cruise Lines by Costa Crociere. The cruise ship, built by Fincantieri in Marghera between 2007 and 2009, is to be used for cruises from Brisbane from October 2022 under the name CARNIVAL LUMINOSA. From May 2023 onwards, the CARNIVAL LUMINOSA will then undertake cruises from Seattle to Alaska.

Im Juli 2020 hatten Celestyal Cruises das Kreuzfahrtschiff noch von Costa Crociere übernommen und in CELESTYAL EXPERIENCE umbenannt. In Betrieb genommen hatte die Gesellschaft das Schiff allerdings nie. Stattdessen wurde in im September 2021 weiterverkauft und in ANTARES EXPERIENCE umbenannt. Nun endet die Karriere des Liners auf dem Strand von Gadani.
Former COSTA neoROMANTICA beached for scrapping
Built from 1988 to 1993 by Fincantieri Marghera as COSTA ROMANTICA (IMO 8821046) for Costa Crociere, refurbished in 2011/12 and then renamed COSTA neoROMANTICA: Now the distinctive Cruise Liner is being scrapped. On December 3, the ship was beached in Gadani, Pakistan.
In July 2020, Celestyal Cruises had taken over the cruise ship from Costa Crociere and renamed her CELESTYAL EXPERIENCE. However, the company never put the ship into operation. Instead, she was resold in September 2021 and renamed ANTARES EXPERIENCE. Now the career of the liner is ending on the beach of Gadani.
