Ehemaliger Celebrity Cruise Liner in Aliaga eingetroffen

Die 1988 bis 1990 auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg gebaute HORIZON (IMO 8867088) ist am Abend des 27. August unter dem Namen ORI vor dem türkischen Aliaga eingetroffen, wo sie in Kürze verschrottet werden soll. Ihre letzte Reise dort hin trat sie im Schlepp des Schleppers VERNICOS SIFNOS an. Das Kreuzfahrtschiff, zuletzt im Einsatz für Pullmantur Cruises, war 2020 während der Corona-Pandemie außer Dienst gestellt und aufgelegt worden.

Der 208 Meter lange und mit 47.427 gross tons vermessene Cruise Liner war seinerzeit für Celebrity Cruises gebaut worden. Von 2005 bis 2009 fuhr das Schiff unter dem Namen ISLAND STAR für Island Cruises, anschließend unter dem Namen PACIFIC DREAM für die Pullmantur-Tochtergesellschaft Croisières de France. 2010 wurde es zurückbenannt in HORIZON. 2017 wurde Croisières de France aufgelöst, und die HORIZON fuhr fortan für Pullmantur Cruises.

Former HORIZON to be scrapped

The HORIZON (IMO 8867088), built from 1988 to 1990 by Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, arrived at Aliaga, Türkiye, on the evening of August 27 under the name ORI. Sie is going to be scrapped there shortly. The voyage to Aliaga was done in tow of the tugboat VERNICOS SIFNOS. The cruise ship, most recently used by Pullmantur Cruises, was decommissioned and laid up in 2020 during the corona pandemic.

The 208 meter long cruise liner, measured at 47,427 gross tons, was originally built for Celebrity Cruises. From 2005 to 2009 the ship sailed under the name ISLAND STAR for Island Cruises, then under the name PACIFIC DREAM for the Pullmantur subsidiary Croisières de France. In 2010 she was renamed HORIZON. Croisières de France was dissolved in 2017 and the HORIZON continued to sail for Pullmantur Cruises.

Ehemaliger Cruise Liner von Hapag-Lloyd feiert Jubiläum

200 Meter lang, eine Bruttoraumzahl von ca. 30.000 – was heute als Kreuzfahrtschiff mittlerer Größe eingeordnet wird, galt seinerzeit bei Fertigstellung als eines der größten der Welt: MS EUROPA (IMO 7822457).

Am 5. Dezember 1981 wurde die EUROPA von der Bauwerft Bremer Vulkan an Hapag-Lloyd übergeben. Damit löste die Reederei ihre vorige EUROPA ex KUNGSHOLM ab, welche ihrerseits anschließend noch drei Jahre für Costa fuhr.

Die neue EUROPA war bis 1999 das Luxus-Kreuzfahrtschiff von Hapag-Lloyd, bis sie selbst durch einen Neubau ersetzt wurde. Die EUROPA (IMO 7822457) war zu der Zeit bereits an Star Cruises verkauft worden und fuhr für diese in Südost-Asien unter dem Namen SUPERSTAR EUROPE, später SUPERSTAR ARIES. 2004 kehrte der Cruise Liner zurück nach Europa. Die spanischen Pullmantur Cruises hatten ihn gekauft und setzten ihn fortan als HOLIDAY DREAM für Mittelmeer- und Karibik-Kreuzfahrten ein.

Nachdem Pullmantur Cruises von Royal Caribbean International übernommen worden waren, wurde das Schiff an Croisières de France übertragen und in BLEU DE FRANCE umbenannt.

2011 erfolgte ein weiterer Eigner-Wechsel: Der Liner wurde von den britischen Saga Cruises übernommen und nach Umbauarbeiten als SAGA SAPPHIRE in Fahrt gebracht. Als Saga Cruises ihre ersten Neubauten in Dienst stellte, wurde die SAGA SAPPHIRE überflüssig. Mit der türkischen Anex Tourism Group fand sich 2020 ein neuer Käufer, der das Schiff unter der Marke Selectum Blu Cruises im August 2021 erstmals wieder in Fahrt brachte. Der neue Name ist nun: BLUE SAPPHIRE.

40 years ago: MV EUROPA delivered

200 meters long, a gross tonnage of approx. 30,000 – what is now classified as a medium-sized cruise ship was considered one of the largest in the world when it was completed: MV EUROPA (IMO 7822457).

On December 5, 1981, the EUROPA was handed over to Hapag-Lloyd by the Bremer Vulkan shipyard. The shipping company replaced their previous EUROPA ex KUNGSHOLM, which in turn sailed for Costa for another three years.

The new EUROPA was Hapag-Lloyd’s luxury cruise ship until 1999 when she was replaced by a new ship. The EUROPA (IMO 7822457) had already been sold to Star Cruises at that time and sailed for them in Southeast Asia under the name SUPERSTAR EUROPE, later SUPERSTAR ARIES. In 2004 the Cruise Liner returned to Europe. The Spanish Pullmantur Cruises had acquired her and from then on used her as HOLIDAY DREAM for Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises.

After Pullmantur Cruises was taken over by Royal Caribbean International, the ship was transferred to Croisières de France and renamed BLEU DE FRANCE.

In 2011 there was another change of owner: the liner was taken over by the British Saga Cruises and, after renovation work, brought into service as SAGA SAPPHIRE. When Saga Cruises put their first newbuild into service, the SAGA SAPPHIRE became superfluous. With the Turkish Anex Tourism Group, a new buyer was found in 2020 who put the ship back into service for the first time under the Selectum Blu Cruises brand in August 2021. The new name is now: BLUE SAPPHIRE.

Am 22. Dezember 1980, also vor genau 40 Jahren lief die EUROPA (IMO 7822457) beom Bremer Vulkan in Bremen vom Stapel. Der Luxus-Liner war von Hapag-Lloyd in Auftrag gegeben worden, um die 1953 als KUNGSHOLM gebaute EUROPA (IMO 5197664) abzulösen.

Anfang 1982 kam der knapp 200 Meter lange Neubau in Fahrt.

Bis 1999 fuhr die EUROPA für Hapag-Lloyd, dann wurde sie durch ihre Nachfolgerin mit selbem Namen abgelöst. Bereits seit 1998 waren Star Cruises die neuen Eigner, die den Liner ab Oktober 1999 zunächst als SUPERSTAR EUROPE, später unter dem Namen SUPERSTAR ARIES in Südost-Asien einsetzten.

2020 übernahm die türkische Gesellschaft Anex Tour den Liner und nannte ihn in BLUE SAPPHIRE um. Der Kaufvertrag war schon im Jahr zuvor geschlossen worden. Vor dem Hintergrund der Corona-Pandemie ist die BLUE SAPPHIRE bisher noch nicht zum Einsatz für Anex Tour gekommen.

40 years ago: The EUROPA was launched

On December 22nd, 1980, exactly 40 years ago, the EUROPA (IMO 7822457) was launched on the Vulkan Yard in Bremen, Germany. The luxury liner was commissioned by Hapag-Lloyd to replace the EUROPA (IMO 5197664) built in 1953 as KUNGSHOLM.

The new and almost 200 meter long cruise liner EUROPA was put into service in 1982. She sailed for Hapag-Lloyd until 1999, when she was replaced by her successor of the same name. Star Cruises had already been the new owners since 1998 and began using the liner in Southeast Asia from October 1999, first as SUPERSTAR EUROPE and later under the name SUPERSTAR ARIES.
