In Lübeck gebauter Cruise Liner frisch getauft

1988/89 auf den Flender-Werken in Lübeck als LADY DIANA (IMO 8705266) gebaut, war der 85,20 Meter lange und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 3.370 vermessene Cruise Liner viele Jahre für die Genting-Gruppe im Einsatz. Von 1994 bis 2008 fuhr er als MEGASTAR TAURUS für Star Cruises und von 2015 bis 2021 als CRYSTAL ESPRIT für Crystal Cruises.

Im September 2021, also noch vor ihrer Insolvenz, verkauften Crystal Cruises ihren Liner an Lindblad Expeditions. Umbenannt in NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ISLANDER II wird das Schiff mit Platz für nur 48 Passagiere für Galapagos-Kreuzfahrten eingesetzt.

Am 27. Oktober wurde das Schiff in Black Turtle Cove, einer Bucht der Insel Santa Cruz auf seinen neuen Namen getauft. Santa Cruz gehört zu den Galapagos-Inseln. Taufpatin war Angela Flaim, Ehefrau des verstorbenen, langjährigen Lindblad-Führers Juan Flaim, der ein leidenschaftlicher Verfechter des Naturschutzes im Galapagos-Archipel gewesen war. Angela Flaim wollte mit der Taufe seine visionäre Arbeit ehren.

Zusammen mit Sven-Olof Lindblad, Gründer von Lindblad Expeditions, ließ sie zurTaufe eine umweltfreundliche Champagner-Flasche am Bug der NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ISLANDER II zerschellen.

Built in 1988/89 by Flender shipyard in Lübeck, Germany, as LADY DIANA (IMO 8705266), the 85.20 meter long cruise liner with a gross tonnage of 3,370 was in service for the Genting Group for many years. From 1994 to 2008 she sailed as MEGASTAR TAURUS for Star Cruises and from 2015 to 2021 as CRYSTAL ESPRIT for Crystal Cruises.

In September 2021, before going bankrupt, Crystal Cruises sold their liner to Lindblad Expeditions. Renamed NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ISLANDER II, the ship with space for only 48 passengers will be used for Galapagos cruises.

On October 27, the ship was christened on her new name in Black Turtle Cove, a bay on Santa Cruz Island. Santa Cruz is one of the Galapagos Islands. Godmother was Angela Flaim, wife of the late longtime Lindblad leader Juan Flaim, who had been a passionate advocate for conservation in the Galapagos Archipelago. With the christening Angela Flaim wanted to honor his visionary work. Together with Sven-Olof Lindblad, founders of Lindblad Expeditions, she smashed an environmentally friendly champagne bottle on the bow of the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ISLANDER II for the christening.

Crystal Cruises feiern 30-jähriges Jubiläum

Crystal Cruises blicken auf 30 Jahre Firmengeschichte zurück. Am 24. Juli 1990 startete die) Kreuzfahrtgesellschaft mit der CRYSTAL HARMONY (IMO 8806204) von San Francisco nach Alaska zu ihrer ersten Kreuzfahrt.

Die Flotte wurde um die 1995 gebaute CRYSTAL SYMPHONY und die 2003 in Dienst gestellte CRYSTAL SERENITY ergänzt, bevor 2005 die CRYSTAL HARMONY verabschiedet wurde.

2015 wurden Crystal Cruises von Genting übernommen. Im selben Jahr wurde die Marke Crystal Yacht Cruises gegründet, welche mit der CRYSTAL ESPRIT ihren Betrieb aufnahm. Im Jahr darauf wurden Crystal River Cruises ins Leben gerufen.

Mit der CRYSTAL ENDEAVOR, die sich derzeit bei den MV-Werften in Stralsund in Bau befindet, soll das nächste Kapitel Firmengeschichte aufgeschlagen werden: Crystal Expedition Cruises.

Crystal Cruises celebrate 30th anniversary

Crystal Cruises can look back on 30 years of company history. On July 24, 1990 the cruise company started the first cruise with the CRYSTAL HARMONY (IMO 8806204) from San Francisco to Alaska.

CRYSTAL SYMPHONY built in 1995 and the CRYSTAL SERENITY, which went into service in 2003, were added tot he fleet, before the CRYSTAL HARMONY was said goodbye in 2005.

In 2015, Genting acquired Crystal Cruises. In the same year the brand Crystal Yacht Cruises was founded, which started with the CRYSTAL ESPRIT. The following year, Crystal River Cruises were launched.

With the CRYSTAL ENDEAVOR, which is currently under construction at the MV shipyards in Germany, the next chapter in the company’s history is to be opened: Crystal Expedition Cruises.
