Am 20.03.2024 wurde auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg die Kiellegung der DISNEY DESTINY gefeiert. Sie wird das dritte Schiff der Triton-Klasse für Disney Cruise Line – nach der DISNEY WISH und der in Bau befindlichen DISNEY TREASURE.
Wie Disney Cruise Line anlässlich der Kiellegung bekannt gab, wird das Design-Thema des DISNEY DESTINY „Helden und Schurken“ sein, inspiriert von Disney-Geschichten, Charakteren und Freizeitpark-Attraktionen. An Bord werden die Gäste Helden und Bösewichten gleichermaßen begegnen, darunter auch solche aus den Geschichten der Walt Disney Animation Studios wie „Der König der Löwen“, „Herkules“ und „101 Dalmatiner“.
Disney Cruise Line zeigt außerdem das neue filigrane Kunstwerk für den Bug der DISNEY DESTINY mit Minnie Mouse als zentrale Figur.
Die Ablieferung des DISNEY DESTINY ist für 2025 geplant.

On March 20, 2024, the keel laying of DISNEY DESTINY was celebrated on the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. She will be the third Triton class ship for Disney Cruise Line – after the DISNEY WISH and the DISNEY TREASURE, which is currently under construction.
As Disney Cruise Line announced during the keel laying ceremony, the design theme of DISNEY DESTINY will be “Heroes and Villains,” inspired by Disney stories, characters and theme park attractions. On board, guests will encounter heroes and villains alike, including those from Walt Disney Animation Studios stories such as “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “101 Dalmatians.”
Disney Cruise Line also revealed the new artwork for the bow of the DISNEY DESTINY with Minnie Mouse as the central figure.
Delivery of the DISNEY DESTINY is scheduled for 2025.

Die in Wismar in Bau befindliche GLOBAL DREAM (IMO 9808986), die einst von Genting in Auftrag gegeben worden war, wird in DISNEY ADVENTURE umbenannt.
Nach der Insolvenz von Genting Hong Kong und daraus resultierend der MV-Werften hatten Disney Cruise Lines das unfertige Schiff Ende 2022 gekauft, um es durch die Meyer-Werft fertigstellen zu lassen. Dabei sollen auch diverse Modifizierungen am Bau vorgenommen werden.
Seit Übernahme des unfertigen Schiffs durch Disney Cruise Lines wurde noch nicht weitergebaut. Disney Cruise Lines gehen aber nach wie vor von einer Fertigstellung bis 2025 aus. Das Schiff soll dann in Singapur stationiert werden und sich damit auch an asiatisches Publikum richten.
GLOBAL DREAM to be renamed DISNEY ADVENTURE
The GLOBAL DREAM (IMO 9808986), which was once commissioned by Genting and is under construction in Wismar, Germany, will be renamed DISNEY ADVENTURE.
After the bankruptcy of Genting Hong Kong and the MV shipyards as a result thereof, Disney Cruise Lines bought the unfinished ship at the end of 2022 in order to have it completed by the Meyer shipyard. Various modifications will also be made to the newbuild.
There has been no further construction activity since Disney Cruise Lines took over the unfinished ship. However, Disney Cruise Lines still expect completion by 2025. The ship will then be based in Singapore and will therefore also be aimed at an Asian audience.

Ehemaliger Auftraggeber der GLOBAL DREAM bekommt die Konkurrenz vor die Haustür
Da werden sich einige in Wismar das Lachen nicht verkneifen können: Die dort inzwischen für Disney Cruise Line in Bau befindliche GLOBAL DREAM soll ab 2025 für mindestens 5 Jahre in Singapur stationiert werden. Das besagt ein kürzlich von Disney Cruise Line und Singapore Tourism Board unterzeichnetes Memorandum of Understanding. Das wird ihm bestimmt nicht gefallen: dem malaysischen Milliardär Lim Kok Thay. Mr. Lim war Inhaber der 2022 in Insolvenz gegangenen Genting Hong Kong, durch die auch die MV-Werften in Insolvenz gerieten. Erste konkrete Pläne zur Übernahme und zum Weiterbau der GLOBAL DREAM machte Mr. Lim im Mai 2022 dann auch noch zunichte, indem er mit den neu gegründeten Resort World Cruises das Kreuzfahrtgeschäft wieder aufnahm und dazu die GENTING DREAM charterte. Infolgedessen sprang Stena Line als Investor ab, denn Stena hätte nur Interesse an allen drei Schiffen – GENTING DREAM, WORLD DREAM und GLOBAL DREAM – en bloc gehabt, um damit ein eigenes Asien-Geschäft aufzubauen.
Bekanntlich konnte im November 2022 schließlich Disney Cruise Line als Investor für die GLOBAL DREAM und den Weiterbau gewonnen werden. Die Fertigstellung geschieht durch die Meyer-Werft. Mit der Ankündigung seitens Disney Cruise Lines, das Kreuzfahrtschiff zukünftig in Singapur zu stationieren, setzen sie Mr. Lim nun sein ursprünglich bestelltes Schiff vor die Haustür und sorgen für direkte Konkurrenz zu seinen Resort World Cruises, die die GENTING DREAM ebenfalls in Singapur stationiert haben.

Former Dream Cruises owner gets the competition on his doorstep
Some in the Port of Wismar, Germany, probably could not help, but laugh: The GLOBAL DREAM, which is now under construction there for Disney Cruise Line, is to be based in Singapore for at least 5 years from 2025. New island retreat in the Bahamas
Beginning in Summer 2024, Disney Cruise Line will welcome guests to a unique island destination for the first time at Lighthouse Point on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Created in close collaboration with local artists and consultants, the vibrant island retreat is dedicated to Bahamian culture.

Designed with families in mind, Lighthouse Point is designed to offer a relaxing beach vacation, imbued with the color and energy of Bahamian art and developed with a commitment to conservation.
When guests arrive at Lighthouse Point, they are greeted by distinctive, curved architecture in bright, saturated tones – a bold style inspired by nature and created in collaboration with local artists.
At first glance, the curvilinear buildings look like Bahamian shells scattered along the coast. Upon closer inspection, guests will discover artistic expressions of the native flora and fauna of the Bahamas, as well as the pageantry and history of the Junkanoo parades. Throughout Lighthouse Point there will be references to playful folklore characters and the charm of local culture.
Respect for the environment is at the heart of the design. At least 90 percent of the destination’s electricity needs will be met by an on-site solar array, the pier has been designed to avoid the need for dredging, and elevated walkways will help limit impact on the landscape.
At Lighthouse Point, families are to enjoy a day of fun in the sun while relaxing on pristine beaches, embarking on active adventures and discovering the magic of Bahamian storytelling alongside beloved Disney characters. Similar to Disney’s cruise ships and the private island of Castaway Cay, Lighthouse Point will offer activities and areas for all ages.
Disney Cruise Lines haben bestätigt, dass sie die bislang nicht fertig gestellte GLOBAL DREAM (IMO 9808986) übernehmen. Disney Cruise Lines wollen den Cruise Liner nun durch die Meyer-Werft zu Ende bauen lassen, und zwar am Standort Wismar. Laut Insolvenzverwalter wird zu diesem Zweck das Werftgelände vom inzwischen neuen Besitzer, der Thyssenkrupp Marine System, bis Ende 2023 angemietet. Im Folgejahr könnte das Schiff, falls notwendig, noch am Ausrüstungskai der Werft liegen.
Überraschend teilten Disney Cruise Lines auch mit, dass ihr neues Schiff mit grünem Methanol, einem Treibstoff mit sehr geringem Schadstoff-Ausstoß, betrieben werden soll. Die Meyer-Werft macht dazu abweichende Angaben und spricht von einem LNG-Antrieb.
Zu den weiteren Umbaumaßnahmen gehört die Entfernung des Casinos. Disney Cruise Lines wollen den Liner zu einem familiengerechten Schiff umbauen lassen. Dazu soll die maximale Passagierkapazität nicht mehr wie ursprünglich geplant bei 9.000 liegen, sondern bei „nur“ 6.000.

Disney Cruise Lines have confirmed that they will take over the as yet uncompleted GLOBAL DREAM (IMO 9808986). The cruise ship, originally built for Genting Hong Kong, has not been kept building since the MV shipyards went bankrupt, caused by the parent company Genting. The cruise ship is about 75% complete.
Disney Cruise Lines now want the cruise liner to be completed by the Meyer shipyard at the Wismar site. According to the insolvency administrator, the shipyard site will be rented fromthe new owner, Thyssenkrupp Marine System, until the end of 2023 for this purpose. In the following year, the ship could, if necessary, still lie at the shipyard’s outfitting quay.
Disney Cruise Lines also surprisingly announced that their new ship will run on green methanol, a very low-emission fuel. The Meyer shipyard makes different statements and speaks of an LNG drive.
Other conversions include the removal of the casino. Disney Cruise Lines want to have the liner converted into a family-friendly ship. In addition, the maximum passenger capacity should no longer be 9,000 as originally planned, but “only” 6,000.

On September 12 Disney Cruise Line announced the name of their second Triton-class ship: DISNEY TREASURE. The new LNG-powered ship will be constructed by the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, and is scheduled for delivery in 2024. She will follow the DISNEY WISH delivered this year.

The Grand Hall of DISNEY TREASURE is designed to exude the allure of adventure and invite guests to seek treasure on board from the very first moment. Inspired by the splendor and mystery of a gilded palace, it draws on real-world influences from Asia and Africa and pays homage to the distant land of Agrabah from the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic fairy tale Aladdin.
The signature statue in the atrium – a Disney Cruise Line tradition – will be a lustrous, shimmering, lavish representation of Aladdin, Jasmine and Magic Carpet as they ascend together into a new world of adventure.

Surprising extraordinary godparents for DISNEY WISH
On June 29, 2022, DISNEY WISH, the fifth ship in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet, was christened in Port Canaveral. The grand celebration was framed by spectacular musical performances, special guests and characters from Disney, Marvel and Star Wars.
With the selection of godparents, Disney Cruise Line made a surprising but very appropriate choice. In keeping with the ship’s name, all Make-A-Wish children past, present and future should be godparents to the DISNEY WISH. They were represented by three ambassadors: Colby 10 years, Megan 16 years and Jenna 12 years.
The Make A Wish Foundation is an internationally active, non-profit organization that has set itself the goal of fulfilling the heart’s desires of seriously ill children.
The celebration culminated in the ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle on the bow in the best Disney style, with a sprinkling of pixie dust and a symphony of pyrotechnics, special effects, music and fanfares.
On July 14, the DISNEY WISH set off on its maiden voyage. She then operates three- and four-day cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas and Disney’s private island of Castaway Cay.

On March 30th, the Meyer shipyard transferred their newest cruise ship, the DISNEY WISH, from Papenburg via the river Ems towards the North Sea. The voyage began at 7:45 a.m. at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, and the dock lock was passed at around 8:30 a.m.
After passing the the Friesen Bridge in Weener at around 12:30 p.m. and the Jann-Berghaus Bridge in Leer at 3:30 p.m., the DISNEY WISH arrived in front of the barrage in Gandersum in the evening.
Before handing over to Disney Cruise Lines, the cruise ship still has to be finally completed and subjected to sea trials.

Die DISNEY WISH ist das erste von drei neuen Kreuzfahrtschiffen, die für Disney Cruise Lines auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg gebaut werden. Alle drei Schiffe erhalten einen modernen LNG-Antrieb. First impressions of what the DISNEY WISH will look like
The DISNEY WISH is currently under construction on the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. According to Disney Cruise Lines, the motto of the new cruise ship will be “Enchantment”. Against this background, regulated operation of cruise ships hardly seems possible. The first cruise lines draw drastic consequences from this and temporarily cease operating their ships. Das erste Schiff dieser Triton-Klasse wird DISNEY WISH heißen, wie Disney
Cruise Lines nun bekannt gegeben haben. Die für Disney Cruise Line-Schiffe
charakteristische Heckfigur wird diesmal die Märchenfigur Rapunzel sein.
DISNEY WISH wird übrigens ein LNG-betriebenes Kreuzfahrtschiff. Damit
entwickelt sich die Meyer-Werft weiter zur Schmiede umweltfreundlicher
Schiffe. Die DISNEY WISH (IMO 9834739) soll Ende 2021 abgeliefert werden,
ihre beiden Schwesterschiffe sollen 2022 und 2023 folgen.
Disney Cruise Lines überrascht die Kreuzfahrtwelt mit der Nachricht, statt der bereits fest bestellten zwei Kreuzfahrtschiffe nun sogar drei neue Schiffe in Fahrt zu bringen. Bereits im Frühjahr 2016 hatte Disney bei der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg zwei Neubauten in Auftrag gegeben. Diese sind zur Ablieferung in den Jahren 2021 und 2023 vorgesehen. Das jetzt bestellte dritte Schiff wird nun noch dazwischengeschoben – zur Fertigstellung 2022. Diese Nachricht erfuhren eingefleischte Disney-Fans gestern, am 15. Juli, auf der D23 Expo in Anaheim, Kalifornien. D23 ist der offizielle Disney-Fanclub.
Laut Disney wären zwei neue Schiffe einfach nicht genug, um all die aufregenden, neuen Ideen auf ihren Schiffen umzusetzen, von denen sie träumten. Sowohl die Schiffsnamen als auch die Designs sind noch in der Entwicklung, aber jedes Schiff soll unterschiedliche einzigartige Erlebnisse bieten. Die Größe der Schiffe wird bei einer Bruttoraumzahl von jeweils etwa 135.000 mit ca. 1.250 Passagierkabinen liegen, also etwas größer als die neuesten in Fahrt befindlichen Cruise-Liner der Reederei. Es ist die Rede von revolutionärem, richtungsweisenden Design in die nächste Generation innovativer Kreuzfahrt-Erlebnisse. Man darf also schon mal gespannt sein!
