Große Schiffstaufe in Reykjavik

Am 22. Juli wurde in Reykjavik auf Island die NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE getauft. Die Schiffstaufe erfolgte mehr als ein Jahr nach der Übernahme des Schiffs von der Bauwerft und war insofern etwas Besonderes, als dass sie die erste Taufe eines international operierenden Kreuzfahrtschiffs in Reykjavik war. Taufpatinnen waren Jen Martin und Ana Esteves, zwei Direktorinnen aus der Führungsebene von Lindblad Expeditions. Sie gaben dem außergewöhnlichen Flaggschiff der Gesellschaft offiziell den Namen NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE, angelehnt an den Namen ENDURANCE. Diese war einst eines von zwei Schiffen der Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition unter der Leitung des britischen Polarforschers Ernest Shackleton.

Unique naming ceremony in Reykjavik

On July 22nd, the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE was christened in Reykjavik, Iceland. The christening took place more than a year after the ship was taken over from the shipyard and was special in that it was the first christening of an internationally operating cruise ship in Reykjavik. Godmothers were Jen Martin and Ana Esteves, two directors from the executive level of Lindblad Expeditions. They officially named the extraordinary flagship of the company NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE, based on the name ENDURANCE. This was once one of two ships of the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition led by the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE in ihrem Element

Bereits am 7. Dezember 2019 wurde das Expeditionskreuzfahrtschiff NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE (IMO 9842554) auf der Ulstein-Werft in Norwegen zu Wasser gelassen. Das kleine Kreuzfahrtschiff verfügt nicht nur über Eisklasse PC5 Kategorie A, sondern auch über den von der Werft entwickelten X-Bow. Dieser verleiht dem Schiff zwar eine ungewöhnliche, durchaus gewöhnungsbedürftige Form, bringt aber vor allem immense Vorteile mit sich. So werden die Schlingerbewegungen des Schiffs deutlich reduziert, was für höheren Komfort der Passagiere sorgt. Darüber hinaus hat der X-Bow deutlich reduzierten Treibstoff-Verbrauch zur Folge.

Das für Lindblad Expeditions gebaute Schiff hat Platz für 126 Passagiere und soll im Januar 2020 in Dienst gestellt werden. Die NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE wird bestens für Expeditions-Kreuzfahrten ausgerüstet. So werden u.a. Zodiacs, Kajaks, aber auch Cross Country Skier mit an Bord genommen. Bei alledem darf an Bord der Luxus natürlich auch nicht fehlen: Spa-Bereich, Sauna mit Meerblick, Außen-Whirlpools, Bibliothek, Fotowerkstatt und nicht zuletzt zwei Restaurants mit hochwertiger, nachhaltiger Küche.

Der Name NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE ist übrigens angelehnt an die ENDURANCE, dem Schiff des Polarforschers und Entdeckers Ernest Henry Shackleton.

Ein Schwesterschiff der NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE soll 2021 in Dienst gestellt werden.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE floated out

Already on December 7, 2019, the expedition cruise ship NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE (IMO 9842554) floated out on the Ulstein Shipyard in Norway. The small cruise ship not only has Ice Class PC5 Category A, but also the X-Bow developed by the shipyard. Although this gives the ship an unusual, well-getting used to form, but above all brings immense benefits. Thus, the rolling movements of the ship are significantly reduced, which ensures greater comfort of the passengers. In addition, the X-Bow significantly reduces fuel consumption.
Built for Lindblad Expeditions, the ship has space for 126 passengers and is expected to enter service in January 2020. The NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE is perfectly equipped for expedition cruises. There will be Zodiacs, kayaks, but also cross country skis on board. With all that, luxury on board may not be missing: spa, sauna with ocean views, outdoor hot tubs, library, photo workshop and not least two restaurants with high-quality, sustainable food.
The name of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE is an homage to the ENDURANCE, polar explorer and discoverer Ernest Henry Shackleton’s ship.
A sister ship of the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE is scheduled to enter service in 2021.
