Explora Journeys feierten am 6. September zusammen mit Werft-Vertretern auf der Fincantieri-Werft in Sestri Ponente bei Genua das Aufschwimmen der EXPLORA II, dem ersten Schwesterschiff der in diesem Jahr in Dienst gestellten EXPLORA I.
Am selben Tag wurde der erste Stahlschnitt für die EXPLORA III gefeiert. Diese unterscheidet sich von den ersten beiden Schiffen durch ihren LNG-Antrieb. Sie soll im Sommer 2026 in Dienst gestellt werden.
Bereits im Januar 2024 soll dann auch schon mit dem Bau der EXPLORA IV begonnen werden, für die die Ablieferung für Anfang 2027 geplant ist.
An der Doppelzeremonie nahmen Michael Ungerer, Chief Executive Officer von Explora Journeys, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO und General Manager von Fincantieri, und der Bürgermeister von Genua, Marco Bucci, teil.
EXPLORA II Float Out and 1st Steel Cut for EXPLORA III
Double celebration in Sestri Ponente
On September 6, Explora Journeys together with shipyard representatives at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente near Genoa celebrated the floating out of EXPLORA II, the first sister ship of EXPLORA I, which entered service this year.
On the same day, the first steel cut for EXPLORA III was celebrated. This differs from the first two ships in her LNG drive. She is scheduled to enter service in summer 2026.
Construction of the EXPLORA IV, for which delivery is planned for the beginning of 2027, is to begin as early as January 2024.
The dual ceremony was attended by Explora Journeys Chief Executive Officer Michael Ungerer, Fincantieri CEO and General Manager Pierroberto Folgiero, and Genoa Mayor Marco Bucci.
Erstes Schiff für MSC-Luxus-Kreuzfahrt-Marke Explora Journeys
Die Fincantieri-Werft im italienischen Monfalcone hat am 20. Juli 2023 die EXPLORA I an Explora Journey, die Luxus-Kreuzfahrt-Marke von MSC Cruises, abgeliefert.
Die Teilnehmer
An der traditionellen maritimen Veranstaltung der Übergabe nahmen Gianluigi Aponte, Gründer und Vorsitzender der MSC Group; Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman der Kreuzfahrtabteilung der MSC Group, Patin des Schiffes Zoe Africa Vago, für Fincantieri Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer, sowie Vertreter des MSC-Konstruktions-Teams zusammen mit Managern und Arbeitern der Werft.
Jungfernfahrt
Die mit 63.900 gross tons vermessene EXPLORA I wird am 1. August 2023 von Kopenhagen (Dänemark) aus zu ihrer Jungfernfahrt aufbrechen. Diese siebentägige Kreuzfahrt führt die Gäste durch die majestätischen Landschaften von Lerwick (Shetlandinseln) und Kirkwall (Orkney), bevor das Schiff nach Reykjavik (Island) weiterfährt.
Die Routen
Das Luxusschiff wird mehrere Wochen in Nordeuropa verbringen und dabei eine Reihe verschiedener Reiserouten sowohl auf als auch abseits der ausgetretenen Pfade anbieten. Anschließend wird es über Grönland den Atlantik überqueren, um den Herbst in Nordamerika, den Winter in der Karibik und den Frühling an der Westküste der USA und auf Hawaii zu verbringen, bevor es im Sommer 2024 für eine Reihe von Reisen im Mittelmeer nach Europa zurückkehrt. Während aller Fahrten wird das Schiff weniger frequentierte Häfen anlaufen, damit die Gäste ein authentischeres Erlebnis genießen können.
Bestellte Schwesterschiffe
Mit der EXPLORA II ist auf der Fincantieri-Werft in Sestri Ponente bei Genua bereits ein weiteres Schiff für Explora Journeys in Bau, welche im August 2024 in Dienst gestellt werden soll. Ihr folgen die EXPLORA III und EXPLORA IV in den Jahren 2026 und 2027. Diese beiden werden einen modernen LNG-Antrieb bekommen.

First ship for MSC luxury cruise brand Explora Journeys
The Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, delivered the EXPLORA I to Explora Journey, the luxury cruise brand of MSC Cruises, on July 20, 2023.
Participants
The traditional maritime event of the handover was attended by Gianluigi Aponte, Founder and Chairman of the MSC Group; Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the Cruises Department of the MSC Group, Godmother of the ship Zoe Africa Vago, for Fincantieri Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer, and representatives of the MSC construction team together with shipyard managers and workers.
Maiden Voyage
The EXPLORA I, measured at 63,900 gross tons, will cast off for her maiden voyage on August 1, 2023 from Copenhagen (Denmark). This seven day cruise takes guests through the majestic landscapes of Lerwick (Shetland Islands) and Kirkwall (Orkney) before continuing to Reykjavik (Iceland).
The Routes
The luxury ship will spend several weeks in Northern Europe, offering a range of different itineraries both on and off the beaten track. It will then cross the Atlantic via Greenland to spend the fall in North America, winter in the Caribbean and spring on the US West Coast and Hawaii before returning to Europe in the summer of 2024 for a series of Mediterranean voyages. During all voyages, the ship will call at less frequented ports so guests can enjoy a more authentic experience.
Sister Ships under construction / on order
With the EXPLORA II, another ship for Explora Journeys is already under construction on the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente near Genoa, which is scheduled to go into service in August 2024. She will be followed by the EXPLORA III and EXPLORA IV in 2026 and 2027. These two will have modern LNG propulsion.

Nach Rückkehr zur Bauwerft Fincantieri im italienischen Monfalcone, werden nun restliche Arbeiten an Bord ausgeführt und das Schiff für die Jungfernfahrt im Juli 2023 vorbereitet.
Die mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 63.900 vermessene EXPLORA I (IMO 9869875) soll am 8. Juli in Civitavecchia getauft werden. Die 15tägige Jungfernfahrt soll am 17. Juli in Southampton beginnen, eine Reise in die norwegischen Fjorde mit Zielhafen Kopenhagen.
Das Kreuzfahrtschiff von 248 Metern länge bietet seinen Passagieren zahlreiche Annehmlichkeiten an Bord:

EXPLORA I completed Sea Trials
First cruise ship for Explora Journeys, MSC’s luxury lifestyle brand, soon to be delivered
The EXPLORA I, the first of up to six ships planned for Explora Journeys, has successfully completed her sea trials. After returning to the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, the remaining work is now being carried out on board and the ship is being prepared for the maiden voyage in July 2023.
EXPLORA I (IMO 9869875) with a gross tonnage of 63,900 is scheduled to be christened in Civitavecchia on July 8th. The 15-day maiden voyage is scheduled to depart from Southampton on July 17, a voyage into the Norwegian fjords with final destination Copenhagen.
The 248 meter long cruise ship offers its passengers numerous amenities on board:
– 3 outdoor pools, one indoor pool, 64 private cabanas
– Ocean Wellness on 1000 square meters with indoor and outdoor wellness offers
– 6 restaurants and 12 bars and lounges

Am 8. Februar fand auf der Fincantieri-Werft in Sestri Ponente bei Genua die traditionelle Münzzeremonie der EXPLORA II statt. Das zweite Schiff für Explora Journeys, der Luxus-Marke von MSC Cruises, soll ab August 2024 on See stechen.
Die Patinnen des Schiffs Feliciana Maresca, Executive Assistant von Michael Ungerer, sowie Martina Mosca, Supervisor Hull Fabrication bei Fincantieri, legten im Rahmen der Zeremonie Gedenkmünzen als Segen für den Bau und Glücksbringer für die Zukunft in das Schiff. Der Feier wohnten ferner Michael Ungerer, CEO von Explora Journeys, Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman Cruise Division MSC Group, sowie Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO bei Fincantieri, bei.
Der Bau der EXPLORA II war am 21. Oktober 2022 auf der Fincantieri-Werft in Castellamare di Stabia bei Neapel begonnen worden. Der Cruise Liner wird eine Vermessung von ca. 63.900 gross tons haben.

Second ship for Explora Journeys
On February 8th, the traditional coin ceremony of the EXPLORA II took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente near Genoa. The second ship for Explora Journeys, the luxury brand of MSC Cruises, is scheduled to set sail in August 2024.
The godmothers of the ship, Feliciana Maresca, Executive Assistant to Michael Ungerer, and Martina Mosca, Supervisor Hull Fabrication at Fincantieri, placed commemorative coins into the ship as a blessing for the construction and good luck charms for the future as part of the ceremony. The celebration was also attended by Michael Ungerer, CEO of Explora Journeys, Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman Cruise Division MSC Group, and Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO at Fincantieri.
Construction of the EXPLORA II began on October 21, 2022 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Castellamare di Stabia near Naples. The cruise liner will have a measurement of approximately 63.900 gross tons.
