Ehemalige ZENITH wird in Alang verschrottet

Die ehemalige ZENITH (IMO 8918136), gebaut 1992 auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg, ist vor kurzem vor der indischen Küste bei Bhavnagar in der Nähe von Alang eingetroffen. Sie soll dort demnächst auf den Strand gesetzt werden, um dort verschrottet zu werden. Unter dem Namen TSM SINGAPORE hatte sie zuvor einige Wochen vor der omanischen Küste auf Warteposition gelegen.

Damit wird nun auch das zweite Schiff der Horizon-Klasse verschrottet. Ende August dieses Jahres war das Schwesterschiff, die HORIZON (IMO 8807088) im türkischen Aliaga zur Verschrottung eingetroffen.

Die HORIZON und ZENITH waren in Papenburg für Celebrity Cruises gebaut worden. Beide Schiffe sind 208 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von ca. 47.400 vermessen. Sie waren beide zuletzt für die spanischen Pullmantur Cruises, einer Tochter-Gesellschaft der Royal Caribbean Group,  im Einsatz gewesen. Die ZENITH war zwar 2019 noch an Peace Boat verchartert worden, war aber wegen der Corona-Pandemie nicht mehr für diese zum Einsatz gekommen.

Former ZENITH to be scrapped in Alang, India

The former ZENITH (IMO 8918136), built in 1992 by Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, recently arrived at Bhavnagar near Alang on the Indian coast. She will soon be beached there to be scrapped. Under the name TSM SINGAPORE she had previously been on hold off the Oman coast for a few weeks.

This means that the second Horizon class cruise ship is now also being scrapped. At the end of August this year, the sister ship, the HORIZON (IMO 8807088) already arrived in Aliaga, Türkiye, for scrapping.

The HORIZON and ZENITH were built in Papenburg for Celebrity Cruises. Both ships are 208 meters long and measured with a gross tonnage of approximately 47,400. They were both last deployed for the Spanish Pullmantur Cruises, a subsidiary of the Royal Caribbean Group. Though the ZENITH was chartered to Peace Boat in 2019, she never cam into service for them due to the corona pandemic.

Ehemaliger Celebrity Cruise Liner in Aliaga eingetroffen

Die 1988 bis 1990 auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg gebaute HORIZON (IMO 8867088) ist am Abend des 27. August unter dem Namen ORI vor dem türkischen Aliaga eingetroffen, wo sie in Kürze verschrottet werden soll. Ihre letzte Reise dort hin trat sie im Schlepp des Schleppers VERNICOS SIFNOS an. Das Kreuzfahrtschiff, zuletzt im Einsatz für Pullmantur Cruises, war 2020 während der Corona-Pandemie außer Dienst gestellt und aufgelegt worden.

Der 208 Meter lange und mit 47.427 gross tons vermessene Cruise Liner war seinerzeit für Celebrity Cruises gebaut worden. Von 2005 bis 2009 fuhr das Schiff unter dem Namen ISLAND STAR für Island Cruises, anschließend unter dem Namen PACIFIC DREAM für die Pullmantur-Tochtergesellschaft Croisières de France. 2010 wurde es zurückbenannt in HORIZON. 2017 wurde Croisières de France aufgelöst, und die HORIZON fuhr fortan für Pullmantur Cruises.

Former HORIZON to be scrapped

The HORIZON (IMO 8867088), built from 1988 to 1990 by Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, arrived at Aliaga, Türkiye, on the evening of August 27 under the name ORI.  Sie is going to be scrapped there shortly. The voyage to Aliaga was done in tow of the tugboat VERNICOS SIFNOS. The cruise ship, most recently used by Pullmantur Cruises, was decommissioned and laid up in 2020 during the corona pandemic.

The 208 meter long cruise liner, measured at 47,427 gross tons, was originally built for Celebrity Cruises. From 2005 to 2009 the ship sailed under the name ISLAND STAR for Island Cruises, then under the name PACIFIC DREAM for the Pullmantur subsidiary Croisières de France. In 2010 she was renamed HORIZON. Croisières de France was dissolved in 2017 and the HORIZON continued to sail for Pullmantur Cruises.

Pullmantur vor dem Aus?

Die spanische Kreuzfahrtgesellschaft Pullmantur Cruceros, ein Joint Venture von Cruises Investment Holding  und der Royal Caribbean-Gruppe, hat die Umstrukturierung nach den spanischen Insolvenzgesetzen beantragt.

Laut einer Erklärung stellte der Verwaltungsrat von Pullmantur fest, dass die beispiellosen Auswirkungen der COVID-19-Pandemie die erforderlichen Maßnahmen erforderlich machten. Die Mitarbeiter wurden bereits entsprechend informiert.

Das  könnte das Ende der Marke Pullmantur bedeuten,  denn Besatzungsmitglieder berichteten bereits von Bord der Schiffe, dass sie Ausrüstung und andere Vorrichtungen entfernten.

Sämtliche Reisen bis zum 15. November 2020 wurden gestrichen.  Die Royal Caribbean Group gab bekannt, dass Gästen, die bereits für Pullmantur gebucht hatten, die Möglichkeit geboten wird, auf anderen Royal Caribbean-Marken wie Royal Caribbean International und Celebrity Cruises zu reisen.

Die Flotte der Pullmantur Cruises besteht aus den drei Kreuzfahrtschiffen SOVEREIGN (Baujahr 1988,  73192 gross tons), MONARCH (Baujahr 1991, 73192 gross tons) und HORIZON (Baujahr 1990,  47427 gross tons).

The end of Pullmantur Cruises?

The Spanish cruise company Pullmantur Cruceros, a joint venture between Cruises Investment Holding and the Royal Caribbean Group, has filed for reorganziation under Spanish insolvency laws.

According to a statement, Pullmantur’s board of directors noted that the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic required the necessary action. The employees have already been informed accordingly.

That could mean the end of the Pullmantur brand, as crew members already reported from board of the ships that they were removing equipment and other devices.

All trips up to November 15, 2020 have been canceled. The Royal Caribbean Group announced that guests who have already booked for Pullmantur will be able to travel on other Royal Caribbean brands such as Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises.

The fleet of Pullmantur Cruises consists of the three cruise ships, the  SOVEREIGN (year of construction 1988, 73192 gross tons), MONARCH (year of construction 1991, 73192 gross tons) and HORIZON (year of construction 1990, 47427 gross tons).
