Die finnische Bauwerft Meyer Turku sichert sich den nächsten Neubau-Auftrag: Royal Caribbean hat das vierte Schiff der Icon-Klasse bestellt – mit der Option zum Bau eines fünften und sechsten Schiffs dieser Klasse.
Die ICON OF THE SEAS ist das derzeit weltgrößte Kreuzfahrtschiff. Ihr folgen im Jahr 2025 die STAR OF THE SEAS sowie das dritte Schiff im Jahr 2026. Die jetzige Bestellung ist für 2027 vorgesehen.
Die Schiffe dieser Klasse sind 364,75 Meter lang, 67 Meter breit und haben eine Bruttoraumzahl bei 249.000
Fourth Icon Class Ship Ordered
Option for fifth and sixth ship
The Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku has secured the next newbuild order: Royal Caribbean has ordered the fourth ship of the Icon class – with the option to build a fifth and sixth ship of this class.
The ICON OF THE SEAS is currently the world’s largest cruise ship. She will be followed by the STAR OF THE SEAS in 2025 and the third ship in 2026. The current order is scheduled for 2027.
The ships of this class are 364.75 meters long, 67 meters wide and have a gross tonnage of around 249,000
Das größte Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt, die ICON OF THE SEAS, wurde am 24. Januar 2024 in Miami getauft. Taufpate war der Fußball-Star Lionel Messi. Der Weltfußballer, der jetzt bei Inter Miami spielt, löste die Schiffstaufe stilecht mit einem Fußball aus. Die Taufe der ICON OF THE SEAS wurde gefeiert mit Show-Einlagen von Turmspringern und Luftakrobaten. Es war ein Event mit viel Show und Pomp, so wie man es wohl von einer Schiffstaufe in Miami erwartet.
Die ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) ist 364,75 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 248.663 vermessen. Sie war 2023 von der Werft Meyer Turku in Finnland an Royal Caribbean International übergeben worden. Inzwischen sind zwei weitere Kreuzfahrtschiffe der Icon-Klasse in Bau, die 2025 bzw. 2026 abgeliefert werden sollen.
Am 27. Januar sticht die ICON OF THE SEAS erstmals mit Urlaubern an Bord in See.

The world’s largest cruise ship, the ICON OF THE SEAS, was christened in Miami on January 24, 2024. Her godfather was the soccer star Lionel Messi. The world footballer, who is now playing for Inter Miami, initiated the ship’s christening in style with a soccer ball. The christening of the ICON OF THE SEAS was celebrated with shows by high divers and aerial acrobats. It was an event with a lot of show and pomp, just as one would expect from a ship naming ceremony in Miami.
The ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) is 364.75 meters long and measured with a gross tonnage of 248,663. She was handed over to Royal Caribbean International in 2023 by the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. Two more Icon-class cruise ships are now under construction, scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
On January 27th, the ICON OF THE SEAS is going to set sail for the first time with vacationers on board.

Am 15. Dezember 2023 fand die Kiellegung der STAR OF THE SEAS bei Meyer Turku in Finnland statt. Mit dem Herablassen des ersten Stahlblocks ins Baudock wurde damit mit dem Bau des Rumpfs begonnen. Unter dem ersten Stahlblock wurden traditionsgemäß einige Münzen gelegt, die dem Projekt Glück bringen sollen.
Die STAR OF THE SEAS wird ein Schwesterschiff der ICON OF THE SEAS, dem größten Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt, welches erst vor kurzem von der Werft an Royal Caribbean Cruises übergeben worden war. Die Fertigstellung der STAR OF THE SEAS ist für 2025 vorgesehen.

Second Icon Class Ship
The keel laying of the STAR OF THE SEAS took place at Meyer Turku Shipyard in Finland on December 15, 2023. When the first steel block was lowered into the building dock, construction of the hull began. Traditionally, some coins were placed under the first steel block to bring good luck to the project.
The STAR OF THE SEAS will be a sister ship to the ICON OF THE SEAS, the largest cruise ship in the world, which was recently handed over from the shipyard to Royal Caribbean Cruises. The STAR OF THE SEAS is scheduled for completion in 2025.

Am 27. November 2023 haben Royal Caribbean Cruises die ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) von der Bauwerft Meyer Turku in Finnland übernommen. Bei einer Vermessung von 248.663 gross tons und einer Länge von 364,75 Meter ist es das größte Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt. Die Übergabe, an der u.a. Royal Caribbean Group President + CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President + CEO Michael Bayley, Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer sowie 1.200 Besatzungsmitglieder teilnahmen, wurde im Aqua Dome des Schiffs gefeiert.
An Bord der ICON OF THE SEAS gibt es fünft sogenannte Neighbourhoods, eine Royal Promenade und einen Central Park, so dass es für die Passagiere vieles zu entdecken und erleben gibt.
Die ICON OF THE SEAS wird nun zunächst nach Cadiz in Spanien aufbrechen, um anschließend Kurs auf ihren Basishafen Miami zu nehmen.
Ein zweites Schiff der Icon-Klasse, die STAR OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829942), befindet sich bereits im Bau.

The world’s largest cruise ship is completed
On November 27, 2023, Royal Caribbean Cruises took delivery of the ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. With a measurement of 248,663 gross tons and a length of 364.75 meters, she is the largest cruise ship in the world. The handover, attended by Royal Caribbean Group President + CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President + CEO Michael Bayley, Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer and 1,200 crew members, was celebrated in the ship’s Aqua Dome.
On board the ICON OF THE SEAS there are five so-called neighborhoods, a Royal Promenade and a Central Park, so there is a lot for passengers to discover and experience.
The ICON OF THE SEAS will now set sail for Cadiz in Spain and then set course for her base port of Miami.
A second Icon class ship, the STAR OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829942), is already under construction.

Dieses Schiff ist seit Februar 2023 bei Meyer Turku in Bau, während sich das erste Schiff dieser Baureihe, die ICON OF THE SEAS, ebenfalls noch im finnischen Turku in Bau befindet. Die ICON OF THE SEAS befindet sich aber bereits in der letzten Phase des Endausbaus und soll bis Januar 2024 an Royal Caribbean übergeben werden.

250.000 gross tons, 365 Meter lang, 20 Decks, Platz für maximal 7.600 Passagiere – die puren Zahlen lassen die Größe des Schiffs erahnen. Nun ist das größte Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt erstmals in See gestochen. Von der Werft Meyer Turku aus ist die ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) zu ersten Probefahrten auf der Ostsee ausgelaufen. Dabei wird das Schiff diversen Tests unterzogen. Die ICON OF THE SEAS hat einen Dual fuel-Antrieb und kann auch mit LNG betrieben werden. Die Ablieferung ist für Januar 2024 geplant.

Largest cruise ship in the world underway for the first time
250,000 gross tons, 365 meters long, 20 decks, space for a maximum of 7,600 passengers – the sheer numbers give an idea of the size of the ship. Now the largest cruise ship in the world has set sail for the first time. The ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) left the Meyer Turku shipyard for the first sea trials on the Baltic Sea. The ship is subjected to various tests. The ICON OF THE SEAS has a dual fuel drive and can also be operated with LNG. Delivery is scheduled for January 2024.
Royal Carribbean Cruises setzen ihre Reihe ihrer Mega-Schiffe fort
Der Bau der ICON OF THE SEAS ist noch im Gange bei Meyer Turku in Finnland, da wird bereits der Bau des nächsten Mega-Schiffs für Royal Caribbean begonnen. Am 15. Februar wurde auf der finnischen Werft der erste Stahlschnitt für das zweite Schiff der Icon-Klasse gefeiert. Die Icon-Klasse ist eine Weiter-Entwicklung der Oasis-Klasse. Die Schiffe dieser Klasse werden damit die größten Kreuzfahrtschiffe der Welt.
Während die ICON OF THE SEAS bis Januar 2024 in Dienst gestellt werden soll, peilt man für das nun begonnene Schwesterschiff eine Ablieferung im Jahr 2025 an. Der Name des Schiffs wurde bisher noch nicht bekanntgegeben.

Royal Caribbean Cruises continue their series of mega ships
The construction of the ICON OF THE SEAS is still underway at Meyer Turku in Finland, when the construction of the next mega ship for Royal Caribbean has started. On February 15, the first steel cut for the second Icon class ship was celebrated at the Finnish shipyard. The Icon class is an evolution of the Oasis class. The ships of this class will thus be the largest cruise ships in the world.
While the ICON OF THE SEAS is to be put into service by January 2024, delivery of the sister ship, which has now begun, is planned for 2025. The name of the ship has not yet been announced.

On December 8th, the ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) was floated out from the construction dock at Meyer Turku in Finland and was transferred to the outfitting quay. This marks another milestone in the construction phase of the world’s largest cruise ship.
The ICON OF THE SEAS is scheduled to be completed by January 2024. With a gross tonnage of 250,800 and a length of 365 meters, she will be the largest cruise ship in the world. She will have space for up to 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew members.

Dieses „Lost Island“ Abenteuer beherbergt Highlights wie Kategorie 6, den größten Wasserpark auf See, mit sechs rekordverdächtigen Rutschen: Pressure Drop und seine 66-Grad-Neigung machen es zur ersten offenen Freifallrutsche der Branche; der 14 Meter hohe Frightening Bolt, die höchste Fallrutsche auf See; Storm Surge und Hurricane Hunter, die ersten Familien-Floßrutschen auf See mit vier Gästen pro Floß und einiges mehr
Chill Island
Von den sieben Pools an Bord befinden sich vier in diesem Bereich auf drei Decks. Es gibt einen Pool für jede Stimmung, jeder mit Meerblick: das lebhafte Swim & Tonic, die erste Swim-up-Bar von Royal Caribbean; Royal Bay Pool, der größte Pool auf See; Cloud 17, ein Rückzugsort nur für Erwachsene; und der ruhige Cove Pool mit Infinity-Edge. Außerdem kehrt The Lime & Coconut mit vier Standorten zurück, darunter die erste Frozen Cocktail-Bar von Royal Caribbean.
Surfside
Royal Caribbean stellt ein Viertel vor, das für junge Familien geschaffen wird, in dem Erwachsene und Kinder im Alter von sechs Jahren oder jünger den ganzen Tag bleiben und spielen möchten. Erwachsene können die endlose Aussicht am Water’s Edge Pool genießen, während sie die Kinder in Splashaway Bay und Baby Bay im Auge behalten. Nur wenige Schritte entfernt befinden sich Restaurants, Lounges, eine Bar, das charakteristische Karussell, eine Spielhalle, Adventure Ocean und Social020 für Teenager.
The Hideaway
Versteckt und 41 Meter über dem Ozean vereint dieses Neighbourhood die gute Stimmung der Strandclubszenen auf der ganzen Welt und den ununterbrochenen Meerblick, den eine Kreuzfahrt bieten kann. Der erste schwebende Infinity-Pool auf See steht im Zentrum des Ganzen und ist von einer mehrstöckigen Sonnenterrasse mit Whirlpools, einer Vielzahl von Sitzgelegenheiten und einer eigenen Bar umgeben.
AquaDome
An der Spitze der ICON erwartet den Passagier ein Ort der Transformation wie kein anderer. In einer ruhigen Oase können die Gäste tagsüber einen Rundumblick auf das Meer und einen beeindruckenden Wasserfall genießen, während sie etwas speisen oder ein Getränk genießen. Nachts wird es dort zu einem pulsierenden Ort, der sich hervorragend zum Ausgehen eignet: mit Restaurants, Bars und Wassershows im AquaTheater. Der charakteristische Unterhaltungsort bringt Kunstfertigkeit und Spitzentechnologie auf neue Höhen mit einem sich verwandelnden Pool, vier Roboterarmen, hochmodernen Projektionen und vielem mehr.
Mit Indienststellung soll die ICON OF THE SEAS das ganze Jahr über auf Sieben-Nächte-Kreuzfahrten ab Miami eingesetzt werden.

Royal Caribbean is giving the first look at eight neighborhoods where life will take place day and night, including five all-new adventure areas and three familiar favorites. Each is a destination in itself, filled with a range of experiences, live entertainment and culinary offerings.
The five neighborhoods:
Thrill Island
Vacationers can test their limits, reach new heights and reach top speeds. This „Lost Island“ adventure is home to highlights such as Category 6, the largest water park at sea, with six record-breaking slides: Pressure Drop and its 66-degree incline make it the industry’s first open-air free-fall slide; the 14 meter high Frightening Bolt, the tallest drop slide at sea; Storm Surge and Hurricane Hunter, the first family raft slides at sea with four guests per raft and more
Chill Island
Of the seven pools onboard, four are located in this three-deck area. There’s a pool for every mood, each with ocean views: the lively Swim & Tonic, Royal Caribbean’s first swim-up bar; Royal Bay Pool, the largest pool at sea; Cloud 17, an adults-only retreat; and the serene Cove Pool with infinity edge. Additionally, The Lime & Coconut returns with four locations, including Royal Caribbean’s first frozen cocktail bar.
Surfside
Royal Caribbean introduces a neighborhood being created for young families where adults and children ages six and under want to stay and play all day. Adults can enjoy the endless views at Water’s Edge Pool while keeping an eye on the kids at Splashaway Bay and Baby Bay. Just steps away are restaurants, lounges, a bar, the signature carousel, an arcade, Adventure Ocean and Social020 for teens.
The Hideaway
Tucked away and 130 feet above the ocean, this neighborhood combines the good vibes of beach club scenes around the world with the uninterrupted ocean views that a cruise can offer. The first floating infinity pool at sea is at the center of it all, surrounded by a multi-level sundeck with hot tubs, a variety of seating areas and a dedicated bar.
AquaDome
At the top of ICON, a place of transformation like no other awaits passengers. In a tranquil oasis, guests can enjoy 360-degree views of the sea and an impressive waterfall during the day while enjoying a bite to eat or a drink. At night it becomes a buzzing place that’s great for going out, with restaurants, bars and water shows at the AquaTheatre. The signature entertainment venue takes artistry and cutting-edge technology to new heights with a transforming pool, four robotic arms, state-of-the-art projections and more.
Upon entry into service, ICON OF THE SEAS is scheduled to operate year-round on seven-night cruises departing from Miami.
