OCEAN DREAM auf der Abwrack-Werft

Ocean Dream - Alang

OCEAN DREAM beached

The OCEAN DREAM (IMO 7915096), built in 1980/81 in Aalborg, Denmark, as TROPICALE for Carnival Cruise Line, has meanwhile reached the beach at Alang in India. The demolition work on the almost 205 meter long cruise ship begins. With the takeover of the SUN PRINCESS (IMO 900259) by Peace Boat, the OCEAN DREAM was no longer needed. The SUN PRINCESS has meanwhile been renamed PACIFIC WORLD.

The OCEAN DREAM is just one of numerous cruise ships that were scrapped in 2020. You can read here which cruise liners were sold for scrapping in 2020.

OCEAN DREAM on her way to the scrapping yard

The end for another cruise ship

The OEAN DREAM (IMO 7915096), last sailing for Peace Boat, is apparently on her journey to the scrapping yard. Although coming from Japan, the destination seems to be Aliaga in Turkey and not Alang in India, according to reports from the Turkish media.

History of the ship

The OCEAN DREAM was built in 1981/1982 on the Danish Aalborg Værft as TROPICALE for Carnival Cruise Lines. She was the first newbuilding for Carnival and the first ship to have the funnel shape typical for Carnival. The ship is 204.75 meters long and measured with a gross tonnage of 35,265. From 2001 to 2005 the Cruise Liner operated as COSTA TROPICALE for Costa Cruises, after which she was sold to P&O Australia, who used the employed her under the name PACIFIC STAR for cruises from Brisbane until 2008. When the cruise ship was taken over by the Spanish Pullmantur Cruises, the name was changed to OCEAN DREAM. This name was retained when the Japanese organization Peace Boat took over the liner in 2012.

The end

With the purchase of the SUN PRINCESS by Peace Boat this year, the OCEAN DREAM was no longer needed. Now she is apparently on her last voyage to the scrapping yard.

Peace Boat ersetzt OCEAN DREAM und ZENITH

SUN PRINCESS

Further ships to be scrapped?

The Japanese company Peace Boat has announced that they will replace their two cruise ships OCEAN DREAM and ZENITH by a single ship, the PACIFIC WORLD, in spring 2021. Presumably this is the SUN PRINCESS, but this has not yet been officially confirmed.

It is to be feared that the OCEAN DREAM and ZENITH will be scrapped.

The OCEAN DREAM (IMO 7915096) was built in 1980 as TROPICALE for Carnival Cruise Lines on the Danish Aalborg Vaerft. The ZENITH (IMO 8918136) was built between 1990 and 1992 on the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, for Celebrity Cruises. She was added to the Peace Boat fleet in 2020 only.
