Meyer’s neueste Schiffe dürfen endlich fahren

Meyer-Werft’s latest cruise ships will sail again soon

As is well known,  worldwide cruises have almost completely come to a standstill in the past 13 months. Some cruise lines had meanwhile resumed voyages with selected ships with lower occupancy and increased hygiene regulations. But most of the cruise ships around the world are still laid up to this day.

Now, at least for the brand new ships that were built in Papenburg, things are finally going again! The SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE (IMO 9818084), delivered in 2020, will shortly start her maiden voyage in British waters, where she will also spend the rest of the season. The same applies to the sister ship SPIRIT OF DISCOVERY (IMO 9802683), delivered in 2019. Both ships operate for Saga Cruises.

The IONA (IMO 9826548), P&O Cruises‘ flagship, which was delivered in 2020, will also travel around the British Isles with fully vaccinated crew members and passengers.

The ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS (IMO 9795737), which was recently delivered to Royal Caribbean, will start cruises from Israel to the eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea this summer.

And the NORWEGIAN ENCORE (IMO 9751511),  flagship of Norwegian Cruise Line, which was delivered at the end of 2019, has meanwhile sailed to the Philippines to take on crew members in Manila and transfer them to the cruise ships of the NCL fleet.

We wish all passengers and crew members a good voyage on the new ships made in Papenburg!

ROYAL CARIBBEAN took over ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS

On March 31, 2021, Royal Caribbean took over their ODYSSSEY OF THE SEAS (IMO 9795737). This makes the series of five ships in the Quantum class complete. Royal Caribbean will use their 348-meter-long mega-liner for cruises from Israel to the eastern Mediterranean this year.

The ships of the Quantum class are the QUANTUM OF THE SEAS, ANTHEM OF THE SEAS, OVATION OF THE SEAS, SPECTRUM OF THE SEAS and ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS. Here is a video ODYSSSEY’s river Ems passage.

OF THE SEAS (IMO 9795737) ausgedockt.

ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS floated out

2nd Quantum Ultra class ship

On November 28, 2020, the ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS (IMO 9795737) was floated out at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. Immediately after floating out, the funnel and the North Star gondola were put on. The ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS is the fifth and last ship of the Quantum class for Royal Caribbean, more precisely the second ship of the Quantum Ultra class (after the SPECTRUM OF THE SEAS). These are mega-liners with a passenger capacity of around 4,900. Unique to this series of ships is the North Star, a viewing gondola that is mounted at the end of a 41-meter-long pivoting arm. The gondola, which can accommodate up to 14 guests, allows all-round views from a height of up to 91 meters above sea level. The gross tonnage of the ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS is 169,380. The delivery of the ship, which has been delayed due to the corona pandemic, is now scheduled for 2021.
