100 Jahre Cunard ab Southampton
Am 19. November 2019 startet in Southampton eine ganz besondere Jubiläums-Kreuzfahrt. RMS QUEEN MARY 2 läuft zu einer siebentägigen Transatlantik-Kreuzfahrt nach New York aus. 100 Jahre zuvor, am 18. November 1919, lief das erste Mal ein Cunard-Liner von Southampton zur Transatlantik-Passage aus. Es handelte sich um die legendäre MAURETANIA. Die Abfahrt markierte den Beginn einer langen und bis heute andauernden Beziehung: die zwischen der britischen Cunard Line und der Stadt Southampton. Southampton wurde der Ausgangshafen für die Cunard-Liner zu ihren Transatlantik-Passagen und war darüber hinaus auch Heimathafen so manchen Cunard-Schiffs.
Während der am 19. November 2019 beginnenden Transatlantik-Reise der QUEEN MARY 2 soll dieses Jubiläum gefeiert werden. Dazu wird es an Bord eine Ausstellung geben. Darüber hinaus sind Gastredner an Bord eingeladen: Chris Frame, Schiffsautor und Historiker, sowie Penny Legg, Autorin, Historikerin und Herausgeberin.
Auch an Bord dabei: der Künstler Robert Lloyd. Er wird während der Überfahrt ein ganz besonderes Gemälde fertigstellen.

100 years Cunard from Southampton
On November 19, 2019, RMS QUEEN MARY 2 will depart for a very special anniversary cruise from Southampton. a seven-day transatlantic cruise to New York. 100 years ago, on 18 November 1919, a Cunard liner for the first time left Southampton for a Transatlantic Passage. It was the legendary MAURETANIA. The departure marked the beginning of a long and lasting relationship between the British Cunard Line and the city of Southampton. Southampton became the port of departure for the Cunard liners to their transatlantic passages and was also the home port of many Cunard ships.
During the transatlantic voyage of the RMS QUEEN MARY 2, which begins on 19 November 2019, this anniversary is to be celebrated. There will be an exhibition on board. Guest speakers are also invited on board: Chris Frame, ship’s author and historian, and Penny Legg, author, historian and publisher.
Also on board: the artist Robert Lloyd. He will complete a very special painting during the crossing.
