Pullmantur Cruises‘ Rückkehr

Zenith - Pullmantur Cruises

Return of Pullmantur Cruises

Pullmantur Cruises are reportedly considering a return to the cruise market. Presumably driven by the successful, cautious resumption of cruises at MSC, Costa, TUI Cruises and some other companies with small cruise ships, Pullmantur may also be thinking about resuming cruise operations.

The cruise company based in Madrid, in which Royal Caribbean also has a stake, started restructuring under Spanish insolvency law in June 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As is well known, insolvency does not necessarily mean bankruptcy. According to reports, however, rents for office space and salaries for landside employees have no longer been paid. But this can also be resolved within short.

And what about ships? Two ships from Pullmantur Cruises, the MONARCH and the SOVEREIGN, have already been beached for scrapping in Aliaga, Turkey. But there would still be the ZENITH, which is currently available in Greece. She was actually taken over by Peace Boat, but their plans have since changed; we reported. It would also be conceivable to use the EMPRESS OF THE SEAS or MAJESTY OF THE SEAS for Pullmantur Cruises, which are laid up in Greece. The EMPRESS has already sailing for Pullmantur in the past.

2 Pullmantur-Kreuzfahrtschiffe in die Verschrottung?

SOVEREIGN

2 Pullmantur cruise ships to be scrapped?

Two ships of the Spanish cruise company Pullmantur Cruceros, the MONARCH (IMO 8819500) and the SOVEREIGN (IMO 8512281), are currently being emptied. This is reported by eye witnesses and on-board staff. The two cruise ships are currently moored at the Stazione Marittima in Naples, Italy.

A significant proportion of the interior, including artworks, nautical and electronic equipment, is reported to be removed and brought from the ship. Parts of the theater equipment are also being dismantled. The parts are loaded onto around 1500 pallets to be transported away.

The action suggests that the two ships are going to be be scrapped.

Pullmantur vor dem Aus?

MS MONARCH

The end of Pullmantur Cruises?

The Spanish cruise company Pullmantur Cruceros, a joint venture between Cruises Investment Holding and the Royal Caribbean Group, has filed for reorganziation under Spanish insolvency laws.

According to a statement, Pullmantur’s board of directors noted that the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic required the necessary action. The employees have already been informed accordingly.

That could mean the end of the Pullmantur brand, as crew members already reported from board of the ships that they were removing equipment and other devices.

All trips up to November 15, 2020 have been canceled. The Royal Caribbean Group announced that guests who have already booked for Pullmantur will be able to travel on other Royal Caribbean brands such as Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises.

The fleet of Pullmantur Cruises consists of the three cruise ships, the  SOVEREIGN (year of construction 1988, 73192 gross tons), MONARCH (year of construction 1991, 73192 gross tons) and HORIZON (year of construction 1990, 47427 gross tons).
