Ehemalige FUJI MARU in Pakistan eingetroffen
Trend zur Verschrottung älterer Cruise Liner hält an
Am 15. Januar 2022 ist die ehemalige FUJI MARU (IMO 8700474) vor Gadani in Pakistan eingetroffen. Sie ist damit das erste Kreuzfahrtschiff in diesem Jahr, das auf einer Abwrackwerft eintrifft. Aber weitere werden folgen.
Die FUJI MARU wurde 1987 bis 1989 bei Mitsubishi Heavy Industries für Mitsui O.S.K. Lines gebaut, die sie bis 2001 als Kreuzfahrtschiff nutzten. Im Oktober 2001 übernahmen Nippon Charter Cruises den 167 Meter langen Liner.
Im Dezember 2013 kaufte Mira Cruise Company die FUJI MARU und nannte sie in MIRA 1 um. Es war vorgesehen, das Schiff in ein Hospitalschiff umzuwandeln, diese Pläne wurden jedoch nie realisiert. Stattdessen lag die MIRA 1 in Fukuyama auf. Nachdem das Schiff seit April 2019 unter dem Namen FUJI vor Tokio aufgelegt gewesen war, erfolgte 2021 der Verkauf an eine indische Abwrack-Werft und die Überführung Richtung Alang.
Die FUJI MARU war mit 23.235 gross tons vermessen und hatte Platz für ca. 600 Passagiere.

Former FUJI MARU arrived at Gadani, Pakistan
January 15, 2022, the former cruise liner FUJI MARU (IMO 8700474) arrived off Gadani, Pakistan. This makes her the first cruise ship this year to arrive at a scrapping yard. But more cruise liners will certainly follow.
The FUJI MARU was built from 1987 to 1989 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, which her as cruise ship until 2001. In October 2001, Nippon Charter Cruises took over the 167 meter long liner. In December 2013, Mira Cruise Company acquired the FUJI MARU and renamed her MIRA 1. It was planned to convert the ship into a hospital ship, but these plans were never realized. Instead, the MIRA 1 was laid up in Fukuyama. After the ship had been laid up off Tokyo under the name FUJI since April 2019, she was sold to an Indian scrapping yard in 2021 and started her voyage to Alang in 2021.
The FUJI MARU was measured with 23,235 gross tons and had space for approx. 600 passengers.
