Verschrottung der BLACK WATCH in Indien? Das war nicht vereinbart!
In Folge der Corona-Pandemie hatten Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines sich Ende 2020 von den beiden Schwesterschiffen BLACK WATCH und BOUDICCA getrennt und diese durch größere Schiffe, die BOREALIS und BOLETTE, ersetzt.
BLACK WATCH und BOUDICCA waren an einen türkischen Käufer verkauft worden. Eine Bedingung des Kaufvertrags sieht laut Angaben von Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines vor, dass das Schiff nach letzter Nutzung nur auf einer zertifizierten Werft in der Türkei gemäß der Hong Kong Konvention (Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships) verschrottet werden darf. Inzwischen liegt das Schiff nach Weiterverkauft und Umbenennung in ODIN vor Indien auf Reede, nicht weit entfernt von den Stränden der berüchtigten Abbruch-Anlagen in Alang. Der Verdacht liegt nahe, dass die ODIN ex BLACK WATCH (IMO 7108930) dort demnächst auf Strand gesetzt werden soll. Das wäre vermutlich Vertragsbruch. Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines haben daher eigenen Angaben zu Folge rechtliche Schritte eingeleitet, um das Verschrotten ihres ehemaligen Liners in Indien zu verhindern.
Scrapping of the BLACK WATCH in India? That was not agreed!
As a result of the corona pandemic, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines had got rid of their two sister ships BLACK WATCH and BOUDICCA at the end of 2020 and replaced them with larger ships, the BOREALIS and BOLETTE. BLACK WATCH and BOUDICCA were sold to a Turkish buyer. According to Fred Olsen Cruise Lines one condition of the purchase contract is that after its last use, the ship may only be scrapped at a certified shipyard in Turkey in accordance with the Hong Kong Convention (Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships).
After being resold and renamed ODIN, the ship is meanwhile anchored off India, not far from the beaches of the notorious demolition sites in Alang. The suspicion is that the ODIN ex BLACK WATCH (IMO 7108930) was intended soon to be beached there. That would probably be a breach of contract. According to Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, they have therefore taken legal action to prevent their former liner from being scrapped in India.
