Der Weltfußballer, der jetzt bei Inter Miami spielt, löste die Schiffstaufe stilecht mit einem Fußball aus. Die Taufe der ICON OF THE SEAS wurde gefeiert mit Show-Einlagen von Turmspringern und Luftakrobaten. Es war ein Event mit viel Show und Pomp, so wie man es wohl von einer Schiffstaufe in Miami erwartet.
Die ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) ist 364,75 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 248.663 vermessen. Sie war 2023 von der Werft Meyer Turku in Finnland an Royal Caribbean International übergeben worden. Inzwischen sind zwei weitere Kreuzfahrtschiffe der Icon-Klasse in Bau, die 2025 bzw. 2026 abgeliefert werden sollen.
Am 27. Januar sticht die ICON OF THE SEAS erstmals mit Urlaubern an Bord in See.

The world’s largest cruise ship, the ICON OF THE SEAS, was christened in Miami on January 24, 2024. Her godfather was the soccer star Lionel Messi. Größtes Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt ist fertiggestellt
Am 27. November 2023 haben Royal Caribbean Cruises die ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) von der Bauwerft Meyer Turku in Finnland übernommen. Bei einer Vermessung von 248.663 gross tons und einer Länge von 364,75 Meter ist es das größte Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt. Die Übergabe, an der u.a. Royal Caribbean Group President + CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President + CEO Michael Bayley, Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer sowie 1.200 Besatzungsmitglieder teilnahmen, wurde im Aqua Dome des Schiffs gefeiert.
An Bord der ICON OF THE SEAS gibt es fünft sogenannte Neighbourhoods, eine Royal Promenade und einen Central Park, so dass es für die Passagiere vieles zu entdecken und erleben gibt.
Die ICON OF THE SEAS wird nun zunächst nach Cadiz in Spanien aufbrechen, um anschließend Kurs auf ihren Basishafen Miami zu nehmen.
Ein zweites Schiff der Icon-Klasse, die STAR OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829942), befindet sich bereits im Bau.

The world’s largest cruise ship is completed
On November 27, 2023, Royal Caribbean Cruises took delivery of the ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. With a measurement of 248,663 gross tons and a length of 364.75 meters, she is the largest cruise ship in the world. The handover, attended by Royal Caribbean Group President + CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President + CEO Michael Bayley, Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer and 1,200 crew members, was celebrated in the ship’s Aqua Dome.
On board the ICON OF THE SEAS there are five so-called neighborhoods, a Royal Promenade and a Central Park, so there is a lot for passengers to discover and experience.
The ICON OF THE SEAS will now set sail for Cadiz in Spain and then set course for her base port of Miami.
A second Icon class ship, the STAR OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829942), is already under construction.

Royal Caribbean unveils next mega liner
Currently under construction on the Chantiers de l’Atlantique Shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France: the UTOPIA OF THE SEAS for Royal Caribbean Cruises. She will be the sixth Oasis class ship. The UTOPIA OF THE SEAS is scheduled to have her kick-off in July 2024. Designed for cruises that no longer focus on the destination but on the ship, she will be deployed for 3 and 4-night cruises from Port Canaveral.

Whether days by the pool or at the beach – both can be found on the ultimate getaway. Supplemented by the pools and sandy beaches on Perfect Day in CocoCay, the atmosphere in the five pools of UTOPIA ranges from cheerful to reserved:

On December 8th, the ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) was floated out from the construction dock at Meyer Turku in Finland and was transferred to the outfitting quay. This marks another milestone in the construction phase of the world’s largest cruise ship.
The ICON OF THE SEAS is scheduled to be completed by January 2024. With a gross tonnage of 250,800 and a length of 365 meters, she will be the largest cruise ship in the world. She will have space for up to 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew members.

Am 9. Dezember wurde die WONDER OF THE SEAS, Royal Caribbean’s neuestes Kreuzfahrtschiff der Oasis-Klasse in Port Canaveral getauft.
Bereits die Auswahl der Taufpatin für das Schiff war außergewöhnlich: Gesucht wurde eine „Wonder Mom“, eine außergewöhnliche Mutter.
Um die passende Patin zu finden, startete Royal Caribbean bei TikTok den Wettbewerb #SearchforWonderMom, bei dem 16.000 Videos gepostet und 10,6 Milliarden Hashtag-Aufrufe verzeichnet wurden.
Die Suche war abgeschlossen, als die Kreuzfahrtgesellschaft die Geschichte von Marie McCrea aus Pennsylvania hörte, die Geschichte einer hingebungsvollen Mutter, Ehefrau und Krebsüberlebenden, deren Geist ihre Familie und die Menschen um sie herum dazu inspirierte, sich auf Abenteuer zu begeben und trotz der Schwierigkeiten, die sie erlebten, jeden gemeinsamen Moment zu genießen.

On December 09, WONDER OF THE SEAS, Royal Caribbean’s newest Oasis-class cruise ship, was christened in Port Canaveral.
Already the selection of the godmother for the ship was extraordinary: Royal Caribbean was looking for a “Wonder Mom”, an extraordinary mother.
To find the right godmother, Royal Caribbean launched the #SearchforWonderMom contest on TikTok, which saw 16,000 videos posted and 10.6 billion hashtag views.
The search was complete when the cruise line heard the story of Marie McCrea of Pennsylvania, the story of a devoted mother, wife and cancer survivor whose spirit inspired her family and those around her to embark on adventures and despite the difficulties, they experienced to enjoy every moment together.

On the Chantiers de l’Atlantique at Saint Nazaire, France, construction of the UTOPIA OF THE SEAS (IMO 9880001) began on April 5th. The superlative cruise ship is the sixth Oasis class ship, but the first LNG-powered ship in this class. This will also make the UTOPIA OF THE SEAS the world’s largest cruise ship powered by liquified natural gas.
Ikonisches Kreuzfahrtschiff hat endgültig ausgedient
Sie war seinerzeit der dritte Neubau für Royal Caribbean Cruises und in den letzten Jahren das älteste noch existierende Kreuzfahrtschiff der Ursprungsflotte von Royal Caribbean: die SUN VIKING (IMO 7125861), gebaut 1971 / 72 bei Wärtsilä in Helsinki. Am 25. Januar ist der Liner zur Verschrottung in Gadani, Pakistan, eingetroffen.
Als drittes Schiff der Song of Norway-Klasse war das Kreuzfahrtschiff 171,69 Meter lang und mit 18.455 gross tons vermessen. Die Passagier-Kapazität lag bei etwa 880. In den vergangenen Jahren hatte der Liner nur noch für Casino-Kreuzfahrten ab Hongkong gedient, zuletzt unter dem Namen ORIENTAL DRAGON.
Vorherige Eigner, die das Schiff noch als Kreuzfahrtschiff eingesetzt hatten, waren Star Cruises sowie Hyundai Merchant Marine gewesen. Für diese Gesellschaften war der Liner unter den Namen SUPERSTAR SAGITTARIUS bzw. HYUNDAI PONGNAE unterwegs gewesen.
Ab 2003 wurden mit dem Schiff nur noch Casino-Kreuzfahrten durchgeführt, und zwar für unterschiedliche Gesellschaften. Die Namen des Schiffs in dieser Zeit waren OMAR III, LONG JIE und ORIENTAL DRAGON.

Former Royal Caribbean Cruise Liner has arrived in Pakistan
Iconic cruise ship to be scrapped soon
She was the third newbuild for Royal Caribbean Cruises and in recent years the oldest still existing cruise ship in Royal Caribbean’s initial fleet: the SUN VIKING (IMO 7125861), built in 1971/72 by Wärtsilä in Helsinki. Now the liner has arrived to be scrapped in Gadani, Pakistan. As third ship of the Song of Norway class she was 171.69 meters long and measured at 18,455 gross tons. The passenger capacity was around 880.
In recent years the liner had only been used for casino cruises from Hong Kong, most recently under the name ORIENTAL DRAGON. Previous owners who had used the ship as a cruise ship had been Star Cruises and Hyundai Merchant Marine. For these companies the liner was sailing under the names SUPERSTAR SAGITTARIUS and HYUNDAI PONGNAE.
From 2003 the ship only operated casino cruises for different companies. The names of the ship during this period were OMAR III, LONG JIE and ORIENTAL DRAGON.

Eigentlich hätte die ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS mit Reisen durchs östliche Mittelmeer eine erfreuliche Auftakt-Saison haben können. Geplant waren Reisen ab Haifa für vollständig Geimpfte aus Israel. Dazu war der nagelneue Cruise Liner bereits ins östliche Mittelmeer überführt worden. Doch nun kommt es anders: Auf Grund der Kriegshandlungen im Nahen Osten sah sich Royal Caribbean gezwungen, die Kreuzfahrten abzusagen.
Teile der Crew werden an die ANTHEM OF THE SEAS übergeben, bevor sich die ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS auf die Reise Richtung US-Ostküste machen wird. Beide Schiffe liegen derzeit in Limassol, Zypern.
ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS: Mediterranean cruises canceled!
Actually, the ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS could have had a pleasant inaugural season with eastern Mediterranean voyages. Trips from Haifa were planned for fully vaccinated people from Israel. For this purpose, the brand new cruise liner had already been transferred to the eastern Mediterranean. But now it turns out differently: Due to the hostilities in the Middle East, Royal Caribbean was forced to cancel the cruises.
Parts of the crew will be transferred to the ANTHEM OF THE SEAS before the ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS will sail towards the US east coast. Both ships are currently in Limassol, Cyprus.

Royal Caribbean’s youngest fleet member can be deployed almost immediately after delivery! The ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS was recently transferred from the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg via the narrow Ems river to the North Sea and is currently in Bremerhaven. In the meantime, Royal Caribbean can look forward to using the ship for cruises as early as this summer. The ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS will sail from Israel. Royal Caribbean will offer cruises from 3 to 7 nights for Israeli tourists. Destinations are the Greek islands such as Rhodes, Santorini and Mykonos, furthermore Piraeus as well as Cyprus. With this program, Royal Caribbean has found a fairly secure job for the ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS, as it is well known that Israel is already very far advanced with its vaccination program.

Mit der EMPRESS OF THE SEAS (IMO 8716899) und MAJESTY OF THE SEAS (IMO 8819512) werden noch in diesem Jahr die beiden ältesten Schiffe der Royal Caribbean-Flotte verkauft.
Royal Caribbean ließ dabei durchblicken, dass ein Käufer gefunden wurde, der die beiden Schiffe wieder für Kreuzfahrten einsetzen will, nämlich im Asia-Pazifik-Raum.
Die EMPRESS OF THE SEAS wurde 1988 bis 1990 bei den Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire gebaut und unter dem Namen NORDIC EMPRESS in Dienst gestellt. Ursprünglicher Auftraggeber waren Admiral Cruises, die vor gehabt hatten, das Schiff als FUTURE SEAS in Fahrt zu bringen.
Die EMPRESS OF THE SEAS ist 210,81 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 48.563 vermessen.
Die MAJESTY OF THE SEAS wurde 1988 bis 1992 ebenfalls bei den Chantiers de l’Atlantique gebaut. Sie ist 268,32 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl vom 74.077 vermessen. Sie ist ein Schiff der Sovereign-Klasse.

The oldest ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet will be sold
With the EMPRESS OF THE SEAS (IMO 8716899) and MAJESTY OF THE SEAS (IMO 8819512), the two oldest ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet will be sold still this year.
Royal Caribbean advised that a buyer has been found who wants to use the two ships again for cruises, namely in the Asia-Pacific region.
The EMPRESS OF THE SEAS was built by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire from 1988 to 1990 and put into service under the name NORDIC EMPRESS. The original client was Admiral Cruises, who had planned to put the ship into service as FUTURE SEAS.
The EMPRESS OF THE SEAS is 210.81 meters long and measured with a gross tonnage of 48,563.

Am 28. November 2020 wurde auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg die ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS (IMO 9795737) ausgedockt. Gleich nach dem Ausdocken wurden der Schornstein sowie die Aussichtsgondel North Star aufgesetzt. Die ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS ist das fünfte und letzte Schiff der Quantum-Klasse für Royal Caribbean, genauer gesagt das zweite Schiff der Quantum-Ultra-Klasse (nach der SPECTRUM OF THE SEAS). Dabei handelt es sich um Mega-Liner mit einer Passagier-Kapazität von etwa 4.900. Einzigartig bei dieser Schiffs-Reihe ist der North Star, eine Aussichtsgondel, die am Ende eines 41 Meter langen schwenkbaren Arms montiert ist. Die Gondel, die bis zu 14 Gäste aufnehmen kann, ermöglicht Rundum-Blicke aus einer Höhe von bis zu 91 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel. Die Bruttoraumzahl der ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS liegt bei 169.380. Die Ablieferung des Schiffs, die sich auf Grund der Corona-Pandemie verzögert hat, ist nun für 2021 vorgesehen.
On November 28, 2020, the ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS (IMO 9795737) was floated out at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. Immediately after floating out, the funnel and the North Star gondola were put on. The ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS is the fifth and last ship of the Quantum class for Royal Caribbean, more precisely the second ship of the Quantum Ultra class (after the SPECTRUM OF THE SEAS). These are mega-liners with a passenger capacity of around 4,900. Unique to this series of ships is the North Star, a viewing gondola that is mounted at the end of a 41-meter-long pivoting arm. The gondola, which can accommodate up to 14 guests, allows all-round views from a height of up to 91 meters above sea level. The gross tonnage of the ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS is 169,380. The delivery of the ship, which has been delayed due to the corona pandemic, is now scheduled for 2021.
Mit Bezug auf die von der US-Gesundheitsbebörde CDC geforderten Test-Kreuzfahrten als eine von mehreren Bedingungen zur Aufnahme regulärer Kreuzfahrten sucht Royal Caribbean nun bereits Freiwillige für solche Reisen. Seitens der Reederei wird betont, dass es sich um Kurz-Reisen handeln wird. Auf diesen Test-Kreuzfahrten wird Royal Caribbean’s Privat-Insel CocoCay angelaufen, weil damit am besten eine abgeschlossene Umgebung gewährleistet werden kann.
Wir weisen in diesem Zusammenhang nochmal darauf hin, dass es um Test-Kreuzfahrten ab US-Häfen geht.

With reference to the test cruises required by the US health authority CDC as one of several conditions for starting regular cruises, Royal Caribbean is now looking for volunteers for such trips. The shipping company emphasizes that these will be short trips. Royal Caribbean’s private island CocoCay will be called on these test cruises because this is the best way to ensure a closed environment.
