Neue Pläne für SS UNITED STATES als Hotelschiff – Ist das die Rettung?
RXR Realty, eine Immobiliengesellschaft mit Sitz in New York City, prüft eigenen Angaben zu Folge eine Renovierung und einen Umbau der legendären SS UNITED STATES zum Hotel-Schiff. CEO Scott Rechler ist demnach bereits auf der Suche nach einem geeigneten Liegeplatz in New York, San Francisco oder in einer anderen großen Hafenstadt der USA.
Rechler zu Folge suchen immer mehr Touristen und Reisende nicht mehr nur gewöhnliche Hotelzimmer, sondern bevorzugen immer häufiger außergewöhnliche und unkonventionelle Unterkünfte. Da würde sich ein Schiff, noch dazu ein klassischer Liner, geradezu anbieten. Die SS UNITED STATES wäre darüber hinaus nicht nur ein außergewöhnliches Hotel, sondern an sich schon eine Sehenswürdigkeit. Laut Rechler soll die SS UNITED STATES dann auch ein Restaurant sowie ein Museum beherbergen.
Mit etwa 500 Millionen US-Dollar beziffert Rechler dieses Projekt. RXR hat bereits einschlägige Erfahrungen, alte und historische Gebäude zu Wohnungen, Apartments und Läden umzubauen.
Derzeit liegt die SS UNITED STATES, einst der Stolz der US-Amerikaner, noch immer im Hafen von Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, und rostet vor sich hin. Gebaut wurde sie 1952, außer Dienst gestellt 1969. Damit ist der Liner bereits mehr als 50 Jahre außer Dienst gestellt. Alle bisherigen Ideen und Anläufe zur Rettung des Schiffs verliefen auf Grund der zu erwartenden Kosten im Sande.

According to its own information, RXR Realty, a real estate company based in New York City, is reviewing a renovation and conversion of the legendary SS UNITED STATES into a floating hotel. CEO Scott Rechler is therefore already looking for a suitable berth in New York, San Francisco or in another large port city in the USA.
According to Rechler, more and more tourists and travelers are no longer just looking for ordinary hotel rooms, but increasingly prefer unusual and unconventional accommodations. A ship, and a classic liner at that, would be an obvious choice. In addition, the SS UNITED STATES would not only be an exceptional hotel, but an attraction in itself. According to Rechler, the SS UNITED STATES will also house a restaurant and a museum.
Rechler puts this project at around $ 500 million. RXR already has relevant experience in converting old and historical buildings into apartments and shops.
The SS UNITED STATES, once the pride of the Americans, is still in the port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is rusting away. It was built in 1952 and decommissioned in 1969.
