Zweites Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff für Viking Cruises

Viking Cruises haben mit der VIKING POLARIS ihr zweites Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff übernommen. Gleich nach der Übergabe-Zeremonie am 27. September auf der VARD-Werft im norwegischen Søviknes hat die VIKING POLARIS Kurs auf Amsterdam genommen, wo sie am 30. September getauft werden soll. Taufpatin wird die US-amerikanische Abenteurerin, Polarforscherin und Autorin Ann Bancroft sein.

Ann Bancroft durchquerte im Jahr 1992 Grönland auf Skiern und war die erste Frau, die sowohl den Nordpol als auch den Südpol erreichte. 2001 durchquerte sie mit der norwegischen Ski-Langläuferin und Abenteurerin Liv Arnesen die Antarktis. Liv Arnesen wiederum wird ebenfalls am 30. September ein Kreuzfahrtschiff taufen, nämlich das im Dezember 2021 Schwesterschiff VIKING OCTANTIS. Dieses ist gerade auf den Großen Seen unterwegs.

Second expedition cruise ship for Viking Cruises

With the VIKING POLARIS, Viking Cruises have taken over their second expedition cruise ship. Immediately after the handover ceremony on September 27th at the VARD shipyard in Søviknes, Norway, the VIKING POLARIS set course for Amsterdam, where she is to be christened on September 30th. Godmother will be the American adventuress, polar explorer and author Ann Bancroft.

Ann Bancroft crossed Greenland on skis in 1992 and was the first woman to reach both the North Pole and the South Pole. In 2001, she crossed Antarctica with Norwegian cross-country skier and adventurer Liv Arnesen. Liv Arnesen, in turn, will also christen a cruise ship on September 30, namely the sister ship VIKING OCTANTIS in December 2021. This one is currently on her way on the Great Lakes.

Both VIKING OCTANTIS and VIKING POLARIS have space for 378 passengers in 189 cabins. The above video gives impressions of this ship class.

Erstes Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff für Viking Cruises

Am 22. Dezember 2021 haben Viking Cruises ihr erstes Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff, die VIKING OCTANTIS von VARD im norwegischen Søviknes übernommen. Das Kreuzfahrtschiff der Luxus-Klasse ist ausgelegt für 378 Passagiere in 189 Kabinen.

Die VIKING OCTANTIS (IMO 9863194) hat einige außergewöhnliche Features, wie zum Beispiel den Hangar, eine geschlossene Marina im Innern des Schiffs, das leichtes, wind- und wellengeschütztes Ein- und Aussteigen auf / von Exkursionsboote ermöglicht. Weiterhin verfügt das Kreuzfahrtschiff über ein Wissenschaftslabor sowie umfangreiche Expeditionsausrüstung, zu der auch Zodiacs, Kajaks sowie zwei Mini-U-Boote mit 270-Grad-Kugel-Fenstern für jeweils 6 Personen gehören. Darüber hinaus gibt es an Bord mit der Aula + Finse Terrace ein Panorama-Auditorium, das im Design von der Zeremonienhalle der Universität Oslo, in der auch die Friedensnobelpreise verliehen werden, inspiriert ist.

Der Cruise Liner soll am 22. April 2022 in New York von der norwegischen Abenteurerin Liv Arnesen getauft werden.

2022 soll mit der VIKING POLARIS auch noch ein baugleiches Schwesterschiff in Dienst gestellt werden.

Expedition Cruise Ship VIKING OCTANTIS delivered to Viking Cruises

On December 22nd, 2021, Viking Cruises took over their first expedition cruise ship, the VIKING OCTANTIS, from VARD in Søviknes, Norway. The luxury class cruise ship is designed for 378 passengers in 189 cabins.

VIKING OCTANTIS (IMO 9863194) has some extraordinary features, such as the Hangar, a closed marina inside the ship, which enables easy boarding and disembarking excursion boats, protected from wind and waves. The cruise ship also has a science laboratory and extensive expedition equipment, including zodiacs, kayaks and two mini submarines with 270-degree spherical windows for 6 people each. In addition, there is a panorama auditorium on board with the Aula + Finse Terrace, the design of which is inspired by the ceremonial hall of the University of Oslo, in which the Nobel Peace Prizes are awarded.

The Cruise Liner is to be christened on April 22, 2022 in New York by the Norwegian adventurer Liv Arnesen.

In 2022, the VIKING POLARIS, an identical sister ship, is to be put into service.

Erstes Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff für Viking Ocean Cruises

Das erste von zwei Expeditionskreuzfahrtschiffen für Viking Ocean Cruises, die VIKING OCTANTIS, wurde am 22. Dezember 2020 zu Wasser gelassen. Das für 378 Passagiere ausgelegte Luxus-Kreuzfahrtschiff soll Anfang 2022 von der VARD-Werft im norwegischen Søviknes abgeliefert werden. Mit der VIKING POLARIS soll die VIKING OCTANTIS noch im selben Jahr ein Schwesterschiff erhalten.

The first of two expedition cruise ships for Viking Ocean Cruises, the VIKING OCTANTIS, was launched on December 22, 2020. The luxury cruise ship, designed for 378 passengers, is due to be delivered by the VARD shipyard in Søviknes, Norway, in early 2022. With the VIKING POLARIS, the VIKING OCTANTIS is to get a sister ship still in the same year.

Tolle Bilder-Galerie von Vikings neuen Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiffen

Viking Ocean Cruises mit Sitz in Basel in der Schweiz steigen nun ebenfalls in den Expeditionsbereich ein. Derzeit betreibt die Gesellschaft sechs Luxus-Kreuzfahrtschiffe der Venice-Klasse, von der noch zwei weitere in Fahrt kommen sollen. Dabei handelt es sich um Schiffe mittlerer Größe bei einer Bruttoraumzahl von jeweils 47.800 und Kapazität von unter 1.000 Passagieren.

In den kommenden Jahren wird die Flotte der Viking Cruises, die 1997 von dem Norwegen Torstein Hagen als Viking River Cruises gegründet wurde, um zwei Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiffe ergänzt: die VIKING OCTANTIS und VIKING POLARIS.

Die VIKING OCTANTIS soll ab Januar 2022 ihre ersten Kreuzfahrten aufnehmen. Dabei soll sie in antarktischen Gewässern fahren, aber auch in den Großen Seen in Nord-Amerika. VIKING OCTANTIS soll dann schon im August desselben Jahres folgen.

Beide Schiffe werden von VARD mit einer Kapazität von jeweils 378 Passagieren gebaut.

Great pictures of Viking’s new expedition cruise ships

Viking Ocean Cruises, based in Basel, Switzerland, is now also entering the expedition area. The company currently operates six luxury cruise ships of the Venice class, of which two more are under construction . These are medium-sized ships with a gross tonnage of 47,800 each and a capacity of less than 1,000 passengers.

In the coming years, the Viking Cruises fleet, which was founded in 1997 by Norway’s Torstein Hagen as Viking River Cruises, will be completed by two expedition cruise ships: the VIKING OCTANTIS and VIKING POLARIS.

VIKING OCTANTIS is scheduled to start her first cruises in January 2022. She will sail in Antarctic waters, but also in the Great Lakes in North America. VIKING OCTANTIS will follow already in August of the same year.

Both ships will be built by VARD with a capacity of 378 passengers each.
