CELESTYAL OLYMPIA vor der Verschrottung?

CELESTYAL OLYMPIA

CELESTYAL OLYMPIA about to be scrapped?

Built in 1981 / 1982 by Wärtsilä in Helsinki, Finland, as SONG OF AMERICA for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line: the CELESTYAL OLYMPIA (IMO 7927984). Celestyal Cruises has operated the cruise ship since 2012, initially under the name LOUIS OLYMPIA. With the purchase of the AIDAaura from AIDA Cruises a few weeks ago, Celestyal Cruises no longer have any use for the 41-year-old CELESTYAL OLYMPIA. Given her age, it is unlikely to find a buyer for the “old lady” to continue operating her as a cruise ship. It is therefore expected that the CELESTYAL OLYMPIA will soon set course for a scrapping yard.

Das Ende der Royal Viking Star Klasse

Black Watch

The End of the Royal Viking Star Class

ODIN ex BLACK WATCH beached

Well, yes: the former BLACK WATCH (IMO 7108930), which ended up bearing the name ODIN, has been beached in Alang, India, despite legal attempts to intervene.

According to Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines when they sold the BLACK WATCH, it was contractually agreed that the ship would be scrapped on a yard in Turkey, once the ship was no longer in use. By his own admission, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines was trying to avoid the BLACK WATCH being scrapped in India when the liner was already on its way there. Now, nevertheless, the scrapping begins on the beach of Alang.

The cruise liner was the first of the three ROYAL VIKING STAR class sister ships and was named ROYAL VIKING STAR when it was completed.

The former ROYAL VIKING SKY (IMO 7218395) was also sailing for Fred. Olsen under the name BOUDICCA and arrived in Aliaga, Turkey, for scrapping in 2021. The former ROYAL VIKING SEA (IMO 7304314), last used as the ALBATROS for Phoenix Seereisen, was scrapped in Alang, India, from 2021.

This is the final end of the story of these three iconic cruise ships, built by Wärtsilä in Turku in the late 1970s.

As a memory of this ship class, above is our one and only BLACK WATCH / ALBATROS comparison video.

Ehemaliger Royal Caribbean Cruise Liner in Pakistan eingetroffen

Cruise Ship ORIENTAL DRAGON

Iconic cruise ship to be scrapped soon
