VASCO DA GAMA Returned from Five-Week Shipyard Stay

Cruise ship VASCO DA GAMA on the Lisnave yard at Setubal, Portugal

As announced by Nicko Cruises, the VASCO DA GAMA (IMO 8919245) returned at the beginning of May from a five-week modernization at the Lisnave shipyard in Setúbal, Portugal. The modernizations were intended to increase efficiency and sustainability and improve guest comfort on board. This also included the installation of a system for supplying electricity from shore.

Other technical upgrades included:

• Redesign of the ship’s hull with silicone paint to reduce marine pollution and fuel consumption.

• The catalytic converters were modernized to reduce emissions.

• The steering and electrical systems were replaced.

• The bow and stern thrusters and steering systems were modernized.

• The anchor and anchor chain underwent a comprehensive overhaul.

Furthermore, rescue equipment, such as tenders and davits, were overhauled and modernized.

Cabins and guest areas also received refreshes.
