Vor 40 Jahren: Stapellauf der ATLANTIC
Erinnerung an einen beliebten Cruise Liner
Am 9. Januar 1981 lief die ATLANTIC (IMO 7902295) bei CNIM (Constuctions Industrielles de la Mediterranée) im französischen La Seyne-sur-Mer vom Stapel. Das Schiff wurde für Home Lines gebaut und blieb bis 1988 in der Flotte der Gesellschaft. Anschließend fuhr es unter dem Namen STARSHIP ATLANTIC für die US-amerikanischen Premier Cruises.
Ab Mai 1997 fuhr der Cruise Liner unter dem Namen MELODY für MSC Cruises. Mit der Flotten-Modernisierung bei MSC wurde die MELODY im Januar 2013 in Neapel aufgelegt und Ende des selben Jahres nach Indien verkauft. Neuer Name war QING. Die QING sollte zum Casino-Schiff umgebaut werden. Diese Pläne wurden jedoch nie umgesetzt, und 2019 erfolgte schließlich die Verschrottung in Alang.
Der Cruise Liner war 204 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 35.143 vermessen.

Remembering a popular cruise liner
On January 9, 1981 the ATLANTIC (IMO 7902295) was launched at CNIM (Constuctions Industrielles de la Mediterranée) at La Seyne-sur-Mer, France. The ship was built for Home Lines and remained in the company’s fleet until 1988. Then she sailed under the name STARSHIP ATLANTIC for the US American Premier Cruises.
From May 1997 the cruise liner operated under the name MELODY for MSC Cruises. With the fleet modernization at MSC, the MELODY was laid up in Naples, Italy, in January 2013 and sold to India at the end of the same year. Her new name was QING. The QING was to be converted into a casino ship. However, those plans were never realized and in 2019 she was finally scrapped in Alang.
The cruise liner was 204 meters long and measured with a gross tonnage of 35,143.
