Behörden verbieten Zugang zum Wrack der ENCHANTED CAPRI
Kreuzfahrtschiffs-Wrack wurde zur Touristen-Attraktion
Die Katastrophenschutzbehörden des mexikanischen Bundesstaates Veracruz haben den Strand von La Cava in der Gemeinde Alvarado, an dem die ENCHANTED CAPRI gestrandet war, geschlossen.
Seitdem das ehemalige Kreuzfahrtschiff im November 2020 vor der mexikanischen Küste gestrandet war, entwickelte es sich zu einer Touristen-Attraktion. So mancher unerschrockene Abenteurer ist sogar zum Wrack geschwommen und an Bord gegangen, was durch eine geöffnete Seitenluke gelang. Bei den Bord-Rundgängen dürfte auch das eine oder andere „Souvenir“ mitgenommen worden sein. Am Strand von La Cava liegt sogar eines der Rettungsboote des Schiffs.
Auf Grund der Tatsache, dass das Wrack Wirbel verursacht, ist es jedoch gefährlich, dort hinzuschwimmen. Daher sahen sich die Behörden gezwungen, den betreffenden Strand-Abschnitt der Playa de Alvarado zu schließen. Außerdem soll nun auch mit der professionellen Demontage begonnen werden.
Die ENCHANTED CAPRI (IMO 7359474) war im November 2020 auf einer Reise von Coatzacoalcos nach Tampico vor der Küste von Veracruz gestrandet.
Das Schiff war 1975 / 76 bei Wärtsilä im finnischen Turku als Cruise Ferry AZERBAYDZHAN für die Black Sea Shipping Company gebaut worden. Sie war das dritte Schiff der Belorussiya-Klasse. Unter den Namen ARKADYA, ISLAND HOLIDAY und ENCHANTED CAPRI war sie später als Kreuzfahrtschiff unterwegs gewesen, als letztes für Commodore Cruise Lines, die 2001 in Insolvenz gegangen waren. Danach hatte sie als Wohn-Schiff für Arbeiter auf Bohrinseln im Golf von Mexiko gedient.
Bekannte Schwesterschiffe der ENCHANTED CAPRI waren u.a. die DELPHIN (ex BELORUSSIYA, IMO 7347536) sowie die SALAMIS FILOXENIA (ex GRUZIYA, IMO 7359400), die inzwischen auch verschrottet wurden.

Cruise ship wreck has become a tourist attraction
The civil protection authorities of the Mexican state of Veracruz have closed the beach of La Cava in the municipality of Alvarado, where the ENCHANTED CAPRI was stranded.
Since the former cruise ship ran aground off the Mexican coast in November 2020, it has become a tourist attraction. Some fearless adventurers swum to the wreck and boarded it through an open side hatch. During the tours on board, one or the other „souvenir“ may have been taken away. One of the ship’s lifeboats is even idling on the beach of La Cava.
However, due to the fact that the wreck creates eddies, it is dangerous to swim there. Therefore, the authorities were forced to close the affected section of Playa de Alvarado. In addition, the professional dismantling is now to be started.
The ENCHANTED CAPRI (IMO 7359474) was stranded off the coast of Veracruz in November 2020 while en route from Coatzacoalcos to Tampico.
The ship was built in 1975/76 by Wärtsilä in Turku, Finland as the Cruise Ferry AZERBAYDZHAN for the Black Sea Shipping Company. She was the third ship of the Belorussiya class. She later operated as a cruise ship under the names ARKADYA, ISLAND HOLIDAY and ENCHANTED CAPRI, last for Commodore Cruise Lines, which went bankrupt in 2001. After that she had served as a accomodation vessel for oil rig workers in the Gulf of Mexico.
Well-known sister ships of the ENCHANTED CAPRI included the DELPHIN (ex BELORUSSIYA, IMO 7347536) and the SALAMIS FILOXENIA (ex GRUZIYA, IMO 7359400), which have meanwhile also been scrapped.
