Tauf-Party der DISNEY DESTINY in Fort Lauderdale

Am 10. November 2025 wurde Disney Cruises Lines‘ neuestes Kreuzfahrtschiff der Wish-Klasse, die DISNEY DESTINY, feierlich in Fort Lauderdale getauft.

Taufpatin war die US-amerikanische Schauspielerin, Sängerin und Tänzerin Susan Egan. Sie hatte große Bekanntheit erlangt durch ihre Rolle als Belle im Broadway-Musical Beauty and the Beast. Darüber hinaus hatte sie beispielsweise der Figur Megara im Zeichentrickfilm Herkules ihre Stimme verliehen.

Die Tauf-Party der DISNEY DESTINY, die auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg gebaut worden war, war geprägt von einer glanzvollen Show: einer Kombination aus Video-Projektionen und Drohnen-Show. Dabei spielte eine Band Musik aus den Disney-Produktionen Herkules, König der Löwen, Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean und Black Panther. Passend dazu wurde im Hintergrund die DISNEY DESTINY mit Video-Projektionen illuminiert, ergänzt durch eine Drohnen-Show im nächtlichen Himmel über dem Schiff.

Christening Ceremony for DISNEY DESTINY in Fort Lauderdale

On November 10, 2025, Disney Cruise Line’s newest Wish-class cruise ship DISNEY DESTINY was christened in a festive ceremony in Fort Lauderdale.

The ship’s godmother was American actress, singer, and dancer Susan Egan, best known for her role as Belle in the Broadway musical Beauty and the Beast. She also lent her voice to characters such as Megara in the animated film Hercules.

The christening celebration for the Disney Destiny, built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, featured a dazzling show: a combination of video projections and a drone display. A band performed music from Disney productions including Hercules, The Lion King, Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Black Panther. The Disney Destiny was illuminated with video projections in the background, complemented by a drone show in the night sky above the ship.

Schiffs-Party in Fort Lauderdale

Am 6. November wurde das zweite Schiff der Sphere-Klasse, die STAR PRINCESS, in Fort Lauderdale, USA, feierlich getauft. Taufpaten waren Camila und Matthew McConaughey, Mitbegründer von Pantalones Organic Tequila. Dabei ließen sie eine Flasche ihres Tequilas an der Bordwand des Kreuzfahrtschiffs zerschellen, um dem Schiff, den Gästen und der Besatzung viel Glück auf See zu wünschen.

Die glamouröse Taufzeremonie, moderiert von der Reise- und Lifestyle-TV-Moderatorin Dawn McCoy, fand in der Princess-Arena dder STAR PRINCESS statt. Die Gäste genossen einen Abend mit inspirierenden Reden von Princess-Präsident Gus Antorcha und Kapitän Gennaro Arma sowie Live-Unterhaltung. Den krönenden Abschluss bildete ein besonderer Auftritt der neunfachen Grammy-Gewinnerin Sheryl Crow. Eine funkelnde Drohnen-Show erleuchtete den Sternenhimmel und würdigte die bevorstehende Reise der Star Princess nach Alaska.

STAR PRINCESS Naming Ceremony in Fort Lauderdale

On November 6, the second Sphere class ship, the STAR PRINCESS, was christened in a grand ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, USA. The ship’s godparents were Camila and Matthew McConaughey, co-founders of Pantalones Organic Tequila. They smashed a bottle of their tequila against the hull of the cruise ship to wish the ship, its guests, and crew good luck at sea.

The glamorous christening ceremony, hosted by travel and lifestyle TV presenter Dawn McCoy, took place in the Princess Arena on the STAR PRINCESS. Guests enjoyed an evening of inspiring speeches by Princess President Gus Antorcha and Captain Gennaro Arma, as well as live entertainment. The evening culminated in a special performance by nine-time Grammy Award winner Sheryl Crow. A sparkling drone show illuminated the starry sky, celebrating the upcoming journey of the Star Princess to Alaska.

Umfangreiche Aufwertungen an Bord

Die COSTA SERENA von Costa Crociere liegt derzeit im Trockendock der China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. auf Mazhou Island bei Shenzhen. Neben den üblichen Wartungsarbeiten erhält das Kreuzfahrtschiff dort umfangreiche Aufwertungen. Dazu gehören drei neue Restaurants an Bord:

  • Das Archipelago: Dort wird es Menüs, kreiert von Michelin-prämierten Sterne-Köchen, geben
  • Die Pizzeria Pummid’Oro
  • Die Shushi-Bar Sushino@Costa

Darüber hinaus erhalten die Haupt-Restaurants modernisierte Designs ebenso wie die Pool-Decks. Auch die Suiten werden renoviert.

Die COSTA SERENA (IMO 9343132) wurde 2006 / 2007 bei Fincantieri in Sestri Ponente gebaut. Sie ist 289,60 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 114.147 vermessen. Sie hat Platz für 3.780 Passagiere.

Extensive upgrades on board

Costa Crociere’s COSTA SERENA is currently in the dry dock of China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. on Mazhou Island near Shenzhen. In addition to routine maintenance, the cruise ship is undergoing extensive upgrades. These include three new restaurants on board:

– The Archipelago: This will feature menus created by Michelin-starred chefs

– The Pizzeria Pummid’Oro

– The Sushino@Costa sushi bar

In addition, the main restaurants will receive modernized designs, as will the pool decks. The suites will also be renovated.

The COSTA SERENA (IMO 9343132) was built in 2006/2007 by Fincantieri in Sestri Ponente. She is 289.60 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 114,147 tons. She has a passenger capacity of 3,780 passengers.

Das Kreuzfahrtschiff AIDAluna liegt seit 21. Oktober im Trockendock der Werft Chantier Naval de Marseille. Dort wird sie im Rahmen des AIDA-Evolution-Programms umfassend renoviert und umgebaut. Dabei werden die Passagier-Kabinen Auffrischungen erhalten, und es werden für die Sphinx-Klasse-Schiffe neue Bars und Restaurants geschaffen. Dazu gehören eine Lanai-Bar, ein French-Kiss-Restaurant, ein Yacht-Club-Buffet-Restaurant sowie ein East-Fusion-Restaurant. Direkt unterhalb der Brücke entsteht eine Panorama-Bar.

The cruise ship AIDAluna has been in dry dock at the Chantier Naval de Marseille shipyard since October 21st. There, she is undergoing extensive renovation and conversion as part of the AIDA Evolution program. The passenger cabins will be upgraded, and new bars and restaurants will be created. These include a Lanai Bar, a French Kiss Restaurant, a Yacht Club Buffet Restaurant, and an East Fusion Restaurant. A panoramic bar is being built directly below the bridge.

Am 23. Oktober übergaben die Chantiers de l’Atlantique im französischen Saint Nazaire das neueste Kreuzfahrtschiff der Edge-Klasse, die CELEBRITY XCEL (IMO 9884136), an Celebrity Cruises.

Darüber hinaus markierte der erste Stahlschnitt den Baubeginn für das nächste Schiff der Edge-Klasse: die CELEBRITY XCITE. Diese soll bis 2028 fertig gestellt werden.

On October 23, Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France, delivered the newest Edge-class cruise ship, the CELEBRITY XCEL (IMO 9884136), to Celebrity Cruises.

In addition, the first steel cutting ceremony marked the start of construction on the next Edge-class ship: the CELEBRITY XCITE. She is scheduled for completion by 2028.

Vor 70 Jahren: Stapellauf der NORDSTJERNEN

Gebaut in der Nachkriegszeit in Hamburg und noch immer in Fahrt: die NORDSTJERNEN. Heute, am 26. Oktober, vor 70 Jahren fand der Stapellauf bei Blohm und Voss in Hamburg statt.

Von 1956 bis 2012 fuhr das Schiff im Liniendienst der Hurtigruten entlang der norwegischen Küsten. Die inzwischen unter norwegischem Denkmalschutz stehende NORDSTJERNEN ist heutzutage für Vestland Marine im Einsatz. Vestland Classic bietet mit dem Schiff nostalgische Seereisen vornehmlich in Nord-Europa an.

Die NORDSTJERNEN (IMO 5255777) ist 88,78 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 2.191 vermessen.

70 Years Ago: Launch of the NORDSTJERNEN

Hurtigruten liner NORDSTJERNEN launched in Hamburg in October 1955

Built in post-war Hamburg and still in service: the NORDSTJERNEN. Today, October 26th, marks 70 years since her launch at Blohm & Voss in Hamburg.

From 1956 to 2012, the ship sailed along the Norwegian coast for Hurtigruten’s coastal service. Now a Norwegian listed historic monument, the NORDSTJERNEN is currently in service for Vestland Marine. Vestland Classic offers nostalgic cruises with the ship, primarily in Northern Europe.

The NORDSTJERNEN (IMO 5255777) is 88.78 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 2,191.

BOREALIS at the shipyard in Rotterdam

Cruise ship BOREALIS in dry dock at Damen Ship Repair in Rotterdam

On October 21, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’  BOREALIS (IMO 9122552) arrived at Damen Ship Repair in Rotterdam. Routine work will be carried out during the shipyard stay. In addition, the cruise ship will receive a new outdoor restaurant, the Fresco. Other onboard restaurants will be upgraded. Furthermore, work will be carried out on the lifesaving equipment, and the ship will receive a new hull paint job.

The newly refurbished BOREALIS is scheduled to set sail with passengers again on November 7.

The ship was built in 1996/1997 as ROTTERDAM for Holland America Line by Fincantieri. It is 237.95 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 61,849. Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines acquired the ship in 2020.
