Darüber hinaus markierte der erste Stahlschnitt den Baubeginn für das nächste Schiff der Edge-Klasse: die CELEBRITY XCITE. Diese soll bis 2028 fertig gestellt werden.

On October 23, Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France, delivered the newest Edge-class cruise ship, the CELEBRITY XCEL (IMO 9884136), to Celebrity Cruises.
In addition, the first steel cutting ceremony marked the start of construction on the next Edge-class ship: the CELEBRITY XCITE. She is scheduled for completion by 2028.

Celebrity Cruises, who already have a unique product on the cruise market with their Magic Carpet, are now landing their next coup! They want to bring the destinations on board as well. The Bazaar is the name of the new concept that is being introduced for the first time on the CELEBRITY XCEL. The idea behind it is to merge the experiences on land and on board.
The Bazaar will be a multi-story, multi-sensory space unlike any other cruise ship to date. This is intended to be the epicenter of the experiences on board. Celebrity Cruises ordering 6th Edge Class Ship
The French shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique has secured a follow-up order from Celebrity Cruises. The shipyard is to build the sixth Edge-class ship for delivery in 2028, which will be a sister ship to the CELEBRITY XCEL, which is scheduled for delivery in November this year. A special feature of the Edge-class cruise ships is the „Magic Carpet“, a multifunctional, vertically movable platform on one side of the ship.
Offizieller Baubeginn für 5. Schiff der Edge-Klasse
Am 13. Juni wurde auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, Frankreich, die Kiellegung der CELEBRITY XCEL, fünftes Schiff der Edge-Klasse, gefeiert.
Bei der Zeremonie ließen Jason Liberty, Präsident und CEO der Royal Caribbean Group, Laura Hodges Bethge, Präsidentin von Celebrity Cruises, sowie Laurent Castaing, General Manager von Chantiers de l’Atlantique, den ersten 739 Tonnen schweren Stahlblock für das neue Schiff absenken. Als Teil der langjährigen maritimen Tradition legten die Führungskräfte des Kreuzfahrtunternehmens und der Werft neu geprägte Münzen auf das erste Stück Stahl, um dem Schiff sowohl während der Bauphase als auch für zukünftige Fahrten Glück zu wünschen. Als Anspielung auf das gehobene Niveau der Edge-Klasse erinnerte das Münzdesign an eine weitere große Innovation: die Saturn-V-Rakete der NASA.
Im Herbst 2025 soll die CELEBRITY XCEL erstmals in See stechen. Ab November 2025 startet das Kreuzfahrtschiff ihre Eröffnungssaison mit Karibik-Kreuzfahrten von Fort Lauderdale aus. Auf den siebentägigen Reisen mit abwechselnden Routen werden die Bahamas, Mexiko, die Cayman Islands, Puerto Plata, St. Thomas und St. Maarten angelaufen. Die Reisen sind ab sofort buchbar.

Official Start of Construction for 5th Edge Class Ship
On June 13, the keel laying of CELEBRITY XCEL, fifth Edge Class cruise ship, was celebrated on the yard Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France.
During the ceremony, Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, Laura Hodges Bethge, President of Celebrity Cruises, and Laurent Castaing, General Manager of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, lowered the first 739-ton steel block for the new ship. As part of the long-standing maritime tradition, executives from the cruise line and shipyard placed newly minted coins on the first piece of steel to wish the ship luck both during construction and for future voyages. As a nod to the upscale nature of the Edge Class, the coin design recalled another major innovation: NASA’s Saturn V rocket.
The CELEBRITY XCEL is scheduled to set sail for the first time in autumn 2025. From November 2025, the cruise ship will start its inaugural season with Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale. The seven-day trips with alternating routes will call at the Bahamas, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Puerto Plata, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. The voyages can be booked from now on.

Nach der Überführungsfahrt über den Atlantik wird die CELEBRITY ASCENT am 3. Dezember zu ihrer ersten Kreuzfahrt mit zahlenden Gästen aufbrechen. Start-Hafen ist Fort Lauderdale, Ziel ist die östliche Karibik. Bis Ende April 2024 bleibt die CELEBRITY ASCENT in Fort Lauderdale stationiert, bevor sie ins Mittelmeer wechselt, um Kreuzfahrten ab Barcelona und Civitavecchia aufzunehmen.

Fourth Edge-class ship delivered
At Celebrity Cruises, one milestone follows the next. After the first steel cutting for the CELEBRITY XCEL on November 7th at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique, the shipyard delivered the sister ship CELEBRITY ASCENT (IMO 9838400), No. 4 of this series, just one day later on November 8th.
After the transatlantic crossing, the CELEBRITY ASCENT will set sail for her first cruise with paying guests on December 3rd. The starting port is Fort Lauderdale and the destination is the Eastern Caribbean. CELEBRITY ASCENT will remain based in Fort Lauderdale until the end of April 2024 before moving to the Mediterranean to begin cruises from Barcelona and Civitavecchia.
