Blue Dream Cruises Flotte: Zwei in Deutschland gebaute Schiffe gleichen Alters

Seit 24. Januar 2024 befindet sich die BLUE DREAM MELODY auf ihrer Reise nach China. Bei dem Kreuzfahrtschiff handelt es sich um die ehemalige AIDAvita (IMO 9221554), gebaut bis 2002 bei Aker MTW in Wismar. Das Schiff war zuletzt für Beta Marine registriert und hatte in Tallinn, Estland, aufgelegen. Der 202,85 Meter lange Cruise Liner wird die flotte der chinesischen Blue Dream Cruises ergänzen.

Blue Dream Cruises betrieben bisher mit der BLUE DREAM STAR (IMO 9183518) nur ein einziges Kreuzfahrtschiff. Die BLUE DREAM STAR wurde übrigens ebenfalls bis 2002 in Deutschland gebaut, nämlich bei Blohm + Voss in Hamburg als OLYMPIA EXPLORER für die griechischen Royal Olympic Cruises. Sie wurde am 25. April 2002 an die Reederei übergeben, genau 5 Tage, bevor die AIDAvita in Wismar an ihre Eigner übergeben wurde. Die BLUE DREAM STAR ex OLYMPIA EXPLORER ist übrigens das bisher letzte bei Blohm + Voss gebaute Passagierschiff.

Blue Dream Cruises fleet: now 2 ships of the same age built in Germany

The BLUE DREAM MELODY is on her journey to China since January 24, 2024. The cruise ship is the former AIDAvita (IMO 9221554), built by Aker MTW in Wismar until 2002. The ship was last registered for Beta Marine and was laid up in Tallinn, Estonia. The 202.85 meter long cruise liner will complement the Chinese Blue Dream Cruises fleet.

To date, Blue Dream Cruises has only operated a single cruise ship, the BLUE DREAM STAR (IMO 9183518). Incidentally, the BLUE DREAM STAR was also built in Germany until 2002, namely at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg as the OLYMPIA EXPLORER for Royal Olympic Cruises. She was handed over to the shipping company on April 25, 2002, exactly 5 days before the AIDAvita was handed over to her owners in Wismar. The BLUE DREAM STAR ex OLYMPIA EXPLORER is the last passenger ship built by Blohm + Voss to date.

Vor 20 Jahren: Letzter Stapellauf eines Passagierschiffs bei Blohm + Voss

Am 19. Mai 2000 ist das letzte große Passagierschiff bei Blohm + Voss vom Stapel gelaufen. Es war die OLYMPIC VOYAGER (IMO 9183518), die übrigens noch vor Ablieferung an die Reederei Royal Olympic Cruises in OLYMPIA VOYAGER umbenannt wurde. Sie ist das Schwesterschiff der OLYMPIA EXPLORER (IMO 9183506), die im Juni 2000 an die Reederei abgeliefert wurde. Beide Schiffe sind 180,45 Meter lang und erreichen eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 28 Knoten. Sei haben jeweils Platz für bis zu 800 Passagiere.

Mit diesen außergewöhnlichen Kreuzfahrtschiffen – Monohull fast ships – wollte Blohm + Voss wieder an alte Zeiten als Bauwerft für Passagierschiffe anknüpfen. Das gelang allerdings nicht. Diesem Kreuzfahrtschiffs-Duo folgte kein weiterer Auftrag.

Die Reederei Royal Olympic Cruises ging 2005 in die Insolvenz. Bereits 2004 wurde die OLYMPIA VOYAGER in EXPLORER umbenannt und fuhr fortan für die Gesellschaft Semester at Seas als schwimmende Universität. Von 2015 bis 2016 war der Cruise Liner als CELESTYAL ODYSSEY für Celestyal Cruises unterwegs, seit 2016 fährt das Schiff in fernöstlichen Gewässern unter dem Namen GLORY SEA.

Auch das Schwesterschiff ist nach mehreren Eigner- und Namenswechseln bereits 2014 nach Fernost gegangen. Es heißt nun CHINESE TAISHAN.

20 years ago: last launch of a passenger ship at Blohm + Voss

The last large passenger ship was launched at Blohm + Voss on May 19, 2000. It was the OLYMPIC VOYAGER (IMO 9183518), which was renamed OLYMPIA VOYAGER even before delivery to the shipping company Royal Olympic Cruises. She is the sister ship of the OLYMPIA EXPLORER (IMO 9183506), which was delivered to the shipping company in June 2000. Both ships are 180.45 meters long and have a top speed of 28 knots. They each have space for up to 800 passengers.

With these extraordinary cruise ships – monohull fast ships – Blohm + Voss wanted to go back to the old days as a shipyard for passenger ships. However, that did not succeed. No further order followed this cruise ship duo.

The shipping company Royal Olympic Cruises went bankrupt in 2005. Already in 2004 the OLYMPIA VOYAGER was renamed EXPLORER and henceforth continued as a floating university for the company Semester at Seas. From 2015 to 2016 the cruise liner sailed as CELESTYAL ODYSSEY for Celestyal Cruises, since 2016 the ship has been sailing in Far Eastern waters under the name GLORY SEA.

The sister ship also went to the Far East in 2014 after several changes in owner and name. She is now called CHINESE TAISHAN.
