Die ältesten Schiffe der Royal Caribbean-Flotte werden verkauft

Mit der EMPRESS OF THE SEAS (IMO 8716899) und MAJESTY OF THE SEAS (IMO 8819512) werden noch in diesem Jahr die beiden ältesten Schiffe der Royal Caribbean-Flotte verkauft.

Royal Caribbean ließ dabei durchblicken, dass ein Käufer gefunden wurde, der die beiden Schiffe wieder für Kreuzfahrten einsetzen will, nämlich im Asia-Pazifik-Raum.

Die EMPRESS OF THE SEAS wurde 1988 bis 1990 bei den Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire gebaut und unter dem Namen NORDIC EMPRESS in Dienst gestellt. Ursprünglicher Auftraggeber waren Admiral Cruises, die vor gehabt hatten, das Schiff als FUTURE SEAS in Fahrt zu bringen.

Die EMPRESS OF THE SEAS ist 210,81 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 48.563 vermessen.

Die MAJESTY OF THE SEAS wurde 1988 bis 1992 ebenfalls bei den Chantiers de l’Atlantique gebaut. Sie ist 268,32 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl vom 74.077 vermessen. Sie ist ein Schiff der Sovereign-Klasse.

The oldest ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet will be sold

With the EMPRESS OF THE SEAS (IMO 8716899) and MAJESTY OF THE SEAS (IMO 8819512), the two oldest ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet will be sold still this year.

Royal Caribbean advised that a buyer has been found who wants to use the two ships again for cruises, namely in the Asia-Pacific region.

The EMPRESS OF THE SEAS was built by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire from 1988 to 1990 and put into service under the name NORDIC EMPRESS. The original client was Admiral Cruises, who had planned to put the ship into service as FUTURE SEAS.

The EMPRESS OF THE SEAS is 210.81 meters long and measured with a gross tonnage of 48,563.

The MAJESTY OF THE SEAS was also built by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique from 1988 to 1992. She is 268.32 meters long and measured with a gross tonnage of 74,077. She is a Sovereign class ship.

Pullmantur Cruises‘ Rückkehr

Bei Pullmantur Cruises gibt es angeblich Überlegungen zu einer Rückkehr auf den Kreuzfahrtmarkt. Vermutlich angetrieben durch die erfolgreiche, vorsichtige Wiederaufnahme von Kreuzfahrten bei MSC, Costa, TUI Cruises und einiger weiterer Gesellschaften mit kleinen Kreuzfahrtschiffen, denken demnach auch Pullmantur über eine Wiederaufnahme der Kreuzfahrt-Betriebs nach.

Die Kreuzfahrtgesellschaft mit Sitz in Madrid, an der auch Royal Caribbean beteiligt ist, ist im Juni 2020 als Folge der COVID-19-Pandemie in die Umstrukturierung nach spanischem Insolvenzrecht gegangen. Insolvenz bedeutet bekanntlich nicht notwendigerweise eine Pleite. Dem Vernehmen nach sollen jedoch Mieten für Büroräume und Gehälter für Land-Angestellte nicht mehr gezahlt worden sein. Das kann aber auch kurzfristig nachgeholt werden.

Und wie sieht es mit Schiffen aus? Zwei Schiffe von Pullmantur Cruises, die MONARCH und die SOVEREIGN, wurden inzwischen bereits im türkischen Aliaga zur Verschrottung auf Land gesetzt. Es bliebe aber noch die ZENITH, die derzeit in Griechenland aufliegt. Diese wurde eigentlich von Peace Boat übernommen, doch deren Pläne haben sich geändert; wir berichteten. Denkbar wäre auch, die EMPRESS OF THE SEAS oder MAJESTY OF THE SEAS, die ebenfalls in Griechenland aufliegen, für Pullmantur Cruises einzusetzen. Die EMPRESS ist bereits in der Vergangenheit für Pullmantur gefahren.

Return of Pullmantur Cruises

Pullmantur Cruises are reportedly considering a return to the cruise market. Presumably driven by the successful, cautious resumption of cruises at MSC, Costa, TUI Cruises and some other companies with small cruise ships, Pullmantur may also be thinking about resuming cruise operations.

The cruise company based in Madrid, in which Royal Caribbean also has a stake, started restructuring under Spanish insolvency law in June 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As is well known, insolvency does not necessarily mean bankruptcy. According to reports, however, rents for office space and salaries for landside employees have no longer been paid. But this can also be resolved within short.

And what about ships? Two ships from Pullmantur Cruises, the MONARCH and the SOVEREIGN, have already been beached for scrapping in Aliaga, Turkey. But there would still be the ZENITH, which is currently available in Greece. She was actually taken over by Peace Boat, but their plans have since changed; we reported. It would also be conceivable to use the EMPRESS OF THE SEAS or MAJESTY OF THE SEAS for Pullmantur Cruises, which are laid up in Greece. The EMPRESS has already sailing for Pullmantur in the past.

Royal Caribbean’s ältestes Kreuzfahrtschiff hat Jubiläum

Am 31. Mai 1990 wurde die NORDIC EMPRESS an Royal Caribbean Cruises abgeliefert. Als EMPRESS OF THE SEAS ist sie das derzeit älteste Schiff in der Flotte von Royal Caribbean Cruises.

Ursprünglich von Admiral Cruises bestellt wurde das Schiff von 1998 bis 1990 auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire gebaut. Vorgesehener Name war FUTURE SEAS. Nach der Ablieferung an Royal Caribbean im Mai 1990 wurde das Kreuzfahrtschiff für Karibik-Reisen ab Miami eingesetzt und 2004 in EMPRESS OF THE SEAS umbenannt. Zuvor war es das letzte Schiff der Flotte gewesen, dessen Name nicht mit „… of the Seas“ endete.

2008 wurde der Cruise Liner an Pullmantur Cruises übergeben und unter dem Namen EMPRESS für Kreuzfahrten im Mittelmeer eingesetzt. 2016 kehrte das Schiff zurück in die Flotte von Royal Caribbean und trägt seitdem wieder den Namen EMPRESS OF THE SEAS.

Die EMPRESS OF THE SEAS (IMO 8716899) ist 210,81 Meter lang, 30,70 Meter breit und mit 48.563 gross tons vermessen. Sie hat Platz für 805 Passagiere.

Royal Caribbean’s oldest cruise ship’s anniversary

On May 31, 1990, the NORDIC EMPRESS was delivered to Royal Caribbean Cruises. As EMPRESS OF THE SEAS she is currently the oldest ship in the Royal Caribbean Cruises fleet.

Originally ordered by Admiral Cruises, the ship was built from 1998 to 1990 on Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire. The intended name was FUTURE SEAS. After delivery to Royal Caribbean in May 1990, the cruise ship was used for voyages from Miami and was renamed EMPRESS OF THE SEAS in 2004. Previously she was the last ship in the fleet, the name of which did not end with „… of the seas“.

In 2008 the cruise liner was handed over to Pullmantur Cruises and used for cruises in the Mediterranean under the name EMPRESS. In 2016, the ship returned to the Royal Caribbean fleet and has been named EMPRESS OF THE SEAS again.

The EMPRESS OF THE SEAS (IMO 8716899) is 210.81 meters long, 30.70 meters wide and measured with 48,563 gross tons. She has space for 805 passengers.
