The STAR OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829942) is the second ship in Royal Caribbean International’s Icon class. She was built by Meyer Turku from 2023 to 2025. With a length of 364.83 meters, she weighs 248,663 gross tons. She can accommodate a maximum of 7,600 passengers.

Die STAR OF THE SEAS wird als wegweisend für die Zukunft des Familienurlaubs angesehen und bietet eine Vielzahl von Erlebnissen. Sie wird 7-tägige Abenteuer in der östlichen und westlichen Karibik anbieten, einschließlich Stopps am „Perfect Day at CocoCay“ auf den Bahamas.

STAR OF THE SEAS, the newest ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, has officially joined the fleet and is scheduled to set sail from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, in August 2025. After nearly two years of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, the keys to the ship were handed over to Royal Caribbean. The handover was celebrated on July 10, 2025, in a ceremony attended by over 1,250 crew members and partners in the ship’s AquaTheater. Jason Liberty, President and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group, and Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean, recognized the hard work and innovation that went into the ship’s construction.
STAR OF THE SEAS is considered a pioneer for the future of family vacations, offering a variety of experiences. It will offer 7-day adventures in the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including stops at the „Perfect Day at CocoCay“ in the Bahamas.
Ship highlights include:
• Thrill Island: The largest Category 6 water park at sea, with six record-breaking waterslides, as well as Crown’s Edge, a 47-meter-high water park, and popular attractions such as the FlowRider surf simulator and rock climbing wall.
• Chill Island: A three-story area with four pools, including Royal Bay, the largest pool at sea, as well as live bands, DJs, a Swim & Tonic swim-up bar, and The Lime & Coconut.
• Surfside: A space specifically for young families, with Splashaway Bay and Baby Bay for children and toddlers, and Water’s Edge for adults. Dining options such as the Surfside Eatery and Pier 7 are also available.
• AquaDome: A tranquil oasis by day and a lively hotspot by night, with the AquaTheater for breathtaking shows and various dining options such as the AquaDome Market food hall, Rye & Bean Bar, Hooked Seafood, and the Overlook Bar.
• The Hideaway: An adults-only area, located 41 meters above the ocean, with a suspended infinity pool, DJ, bar, terrace with whirlpools, and ocean views.
In addition, STAR OF THE SEAS features familiar Royal Caribbean favorites such as the ocean-view Royal Promenade, the Pearl (the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture), the open-air Central Park with over 30,500 real plants, and the new Lincoln Park Supper Club. There are also expanded overnight accommodations in the Suite Neighborhood on four decks.
STAR OF THE SEAS is the company’s third ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and incorporates advanced environmental programs to support Royal Caribbean Group’s goal of achieving net-zero cruise ships by 2035. LEGEND OF THE SEAS, the fourth LNG-powered Icon Class ship, is scheduled to follow in 2026.

She was known, among other things, as the lead singer of The Supremes, but also as a solo artist. One of her most famous hits was „Upside Down.“
The christening of the STAR OF THE SEAS will take place in August at Port Canaveral with a ceremony onboard in the Aqua Theater. The STAR OF THE SEAS is the second Icon class ship. She is 364.75 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 250,800 tons. This means she will accommodate 5,610 passengers.

Currently under construction at Meyer Turku in Finland, the ship is scheduled to enter service in July 2026. She will spend her first season in the Western Mediterranean before being positioned to Port Everglades as a base port after the summer season. LEGEND OF THE SEAS (IMO 9888560) will then be deployed for 6- and 8-night cruises to the Caribbean.

The world’s largest cruise ship continues to take shape. After the mighty Aquadome was put in place some time ago, the STAR OF THE SEAS was floated out on the shipyard Meyer Turku recently. After the construction dock was flooded, it took several days due to strong winds before the ship could leave the dock and be moved to the outfitting pier.
The STAR OF THE SEAS is the second ship in the Icon class and will be the largest cruise ship in the world. The cruise liner will have a gross tonnage of 250,800 and a passenger capacity of 5,600; she will be 365 meters long.

Fourth Icon Class Ship Ordered

The Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku has secured the next newbuild order: Royal Caribbean has ordered the fourth ship of the Icon class – with the option to build a fifth and sixth ship of this class.
The ICON OF THE SEAS is currently the world’s largest cruise ship. She will be followed by the STAR OF THE SEAS in 2025 and the third ship in 2026. The current order is scheduled for 2027.
The ships of this class are 364.75 meters long, 67 meters wide and have a gross tonnage of around 249,000
Tauf-Party zur Einführung der ultimativen Kurz-Kreuzfahrt
Im Rahmen einer grandiosen Sommer-Party an Bord wurde die UTOPIA OF THE SEAS am 15. Juli in Port Canaveral getauft. Taufpatin war die mit einem Grammy ausgezeichnete Sängerin und Songwriterin Meghan Trainor. An der ausgelassenen Party nahmen mehr als 4000 Gäste sowie Besatzungsmitglieder und Führungskräfte von Royal Caribbean teil. Die Party war auch der Auftakt zum „Urlaub des Feierns“, den Royal Caribbean damit einläutete. Höhepunkt der Party war der Auftritt von Meghan Trainor. Doch damit war die Feier noch lange nicht zu Ende. Im Rahmen einer dreitägigen Taufreise fanden weitere Parties und Live Performances statt.
Die UTOPIA OF THE SEAS, das jüngste Schiff der Oasis-Plus-Klasse, soll mit 3- und 4-Nächte-Kreuzfahrten ab Port Canaveral den ultimativen Kurz-Urlaub bieten. Die Reisen führen zu Royal Caribbean’s Privat-Insel CocoCay, wo der Urlaub unter dem Motto „Perfect Day at Coco Cay“ steht.
Die Gäste an Bord der UTOPIA OF THE SEAS haben die Auswahl aus 40 Möglichkeiten zum Essen, Trinken und Feiern, einschließlich eines Partyangebot, das es so nur an Bord dieses Schiffs gibt, darüber hinaus zwei Casinos und die Royal Railway–Utopia Station, einem einzigartigen immersiven Speiseerlebnis im Zugwaggon. The UTOPIA OF THE SEAS was christened on July 15th in Port Canaveral as part of a grandiose summer party on board. Godmother was Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Meghan Trainor. More than 4,000 guests as well as crew members and executives from Royal Caribbean attended the exuberant party. The party was also the start of the „holiday of celebration“ that Royal Caribbean ushered in. The highlight of the party was Meghan Trainor’s performance. But the celebration was far from over. Further parties and live performances took place as part of a three-day christening trip.
UTOPIA OF THE SEAS, the newest Oasis Plus class ship, is designed to offer the ultimate getaway with 3- and 4-night cruises from Port Canaveral. The trips lead to Royal Caribbean’s private island CocoCay, where the vacation motto is „Perfect Day at Coco Cay“.
Guests aboard UTOPIA OF THE SEAS can choose from 40 options for eating, drinking and partying, including a party program that is only available on board this ship, two casinos and the Royal Railway–Utopia Station, a unique immersive dining experience in a train car. Onboard amenities include numerous pools, thrills, breathtaking entertainment on ice, in the water, on stage and aerial acrobatics

Der Weltfußballer, der jetzt bei Inter Miami spielt, löste die Schiffstaufe stilecht mit einem Fußball aus. Die Taufe der ICON OF THE SEAS wurde gefeiert mit Show-Einlagen von Turmspringern und Luftakrobaten. Es war ein Event mit viel Show und Pomp, so wie man es wohl von einer Schiffstaufe in Miami erwartet.

The world footballer, who is now playing for Inter Miami, initiated the ship’s christening in style with a soccer ball. The christening of the ICON OF THE SEAS was celebrated with shows by high divers and aerial acrobats. It was an event with a lot of show and pomp, just as one would expect from a ship naming ceremony in Miami.

Am 27. November 2023 haben Royal Caribbean Cruises die ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) von der Bauwerft Meyer Turku in Finnland übernommen. Bei einer Vermessung von 248.663 gross tons und einer Länge von 364,75 Meter ist es das größte Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt. Die Übergabe, an der u.a. Royal Caribbean Group President + CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President + CEO Michael Bayley, Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer sowie 1.200 Besatzungsmitglieder teilnahmen, wurde im Aqua Dome des Schiffs gefeiert.
An Bord der ICON OF THE SEAS gibt es fünft sogenannte Neighbourhoods, eine Royal Promenade und einen Central Park, so dass es für die Passagiere vieles zu entdecken und erleben gibt.
Die ICON OF THE SEAS wird nun zunächst nach Cadiz in Spanien aufbrechen, um anschließend Kurs auf ihren Basishafen Miami zu nehmen.
Ein zweites Schiff der Icon-Klasse, die STAR OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829942), befindet sich bereits im Bau.

The world’s largest cruise ship is completed
On November 27, 2023, Royal Caribbean Cruises took delivery of the ICON OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829930) from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. With a measurement of 248,663 gross tons and a length of 364.75 meters, she is the largest cruise ship in the world. The handover, attended by Royal Caribbean Group President + CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President + CEO Michael Bayley, Meyer Turku CEO Tim Meyer and 1,200 crew members, was celebrated in the ship’s Aqua Dome.
On board the ICON OF THE SEAS there are five so-called neighborhoods, a Royal Promenade and a Central Park, so there is a lot for passengers to discover and experience.
The ICON OF THE SEAS will now set sail for Cadiz in Spain and then set course for her base port of Miami.
A second Icon class ship, the STAR OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829942), is already under construction.
Royal Caribbean Cruises haben den Namen ihres zweiten Mega-Liners der Icon-Klasse bekanntgegeben: STAR OF THE SEAS. Dieses Schiff ist seit Februar 2023 bei Meyer Turku in Bau, während sich das erste Schiff dieser Baureihe, die ICON OF THE SEAS, ebenfalls noch im finnischen Turku in Bau befindet. Die ICON OF THE SEAS befindet sich aber bereits in der letzten Phase des Endausbaus und soll bis Januar 2024 an Royal Caribbean übergeben werden.
