Die LEGEND OF THE SEAS, derzeit in Bau bei Meyer Turku in Finnland und bei Fertigstellung das größte Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt, ist zu Probefahrten auf der Ostsee ausgelaufen. Im Seegebiet zwischen Schweden, Finnland und Estland soll der Cruise Liner innerhalb von 10 Tagen diversen Tests unterzogen werden. Damit erreicht die LEGEND OF THE SEAS einen weiteren wichtigen Meilenstein im Baufortschritt vor der endgültigen Fertigstellung zum Sommer dieses Jahres.

The LEGEND OF THE SEAS, currently under construction at Meyer Turku in Finland and, upon completion, the world’s largest cruise ship, has set sail for sea trials in the Baltic Sea. In the waters between Sweden, Finland, and Estonia, the cruise liner will undergo various tests over the next 10 days. This marks another important milestone in the LEGEND OF THE SEAS’s construction progress before its final completion this summer.
The LEGEND OF THE SEAS (IMO 9888560), the third ship in the Icon class, will spend her first summer season in the western Mediterranean.

The STAR OF THE SEAS (IMO 9829942) is the second ship in Royal Caribbean International’s Icon class. She was built by Meyer Turku from 2023 to 2025. With a length of 364.83 meters, she weighs 248,663 gross tons. She can accommodate a maximum of 7,600 passengers.

STAR OF THE SEAS, the newest ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, has officially joined the fleet and is scheduled to set sail from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, in August 2025. After nearly two years of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, the keys to the ship were handed over to Royal Caribbean. The handover was celebrated on July 10, 2025, in a ceremony attended by over 1,250 crew members and partners in the ship’s AquaTheater. Jason Liberty, President and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group, and Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean, recognized the hard work and innovation that went into the ship’s construction.
STAR OF THE SEAS is considered a pioneer for the future of family vacations, offering a variety of experiences. It will offer 7-day adventures in the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including stops at the „Perfect Day at CocoCay“ in the Bahamas.
Ship highlights include:
• Thrill Island: The largest Category 6 water park at sea, with six record-breaking waterslides, as well as Crown’s Edge, a 47-meter-high water park, and popular attractions such as the FlowRider surf simulator and rock climbing wall.
• Chill Island: A three-story area with four pools, including Royal Bay, the largest pool at sea, as well as live bands, DJs, a Swim & Tonic swim-up bar, and The Lime & Coconut.
• Surfside: A space specifically for young families, with Splashaway Bay and Baby Bay for children and toddlers, and Water’s Edge for adults. Dining options such as the Surfside Eatery and Pier 7 are also available.
• AquaDome: A tranquil oasis by day and a lively hotspot by night, with the AquaTheater for breathtaking shows and various dining options such as the AquaDome Market food hall, Rye & Bean Bar, Hooked Seafood, and the Overlook Bar.
• The Hideaway: An adults-only area, located 41 meters above the ocean, with a suspended infinity pool, DJ, bar, terrace with whirlpools, and ocean views.
In addition, STAR OF THE SEAS features familiar Royal Caribbean favorites such as the ocean-view Royal Promenade, the Pearl (the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture), the open-air Central Park with over 30,500 real plants, and the new Lincoln Park Supper Club. There are also expanded overnight accommodations in the Suite Neighborhood on four decks.
STAR OF THE SEAS is the company’s third ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and incorporates advanced environmental programs to support Royal Caribbean Group’s goal of achieving net-zero cruise ships by 2035. LEGEND OF THE SEAS, the fourth LNG-powered Icon Class ship, is scheduled to follow in 2026.

Royal Caribbean International announced the godmother of their STAR OF THE SEAS, currently under construction at Meyer Turku: Diana Ross, the world-renowned American singer and actress. She was known, among other things, as the lead singer of The Supremes, but also as a solo artist. One of her most famous hits was „Upside Down.“
The christening of the STAR OF THE SEAS will take place in August at Port Canaveral with a ceremony onboard in the Aqua Theater. The STAR OF THE SEAS is the second Icon class ship. She is 364.75 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 250,800 tons. This means she will accommodate 5,610 passengers.

Third ship in the Icon class: LEGEND OF THE SEAS
Royal Caribbean Cruises announced the name of the third ship in their Icon class: LEGEND OF THE SEAS. Currently under construction at Meyer Turku in Finland, the ship is scheduled to enter service in July 2026. She will spend her first season in the Western Mediterranean before being positioned to Port Everglades as a base port after the summer season. LEGEND OF THE SEAS (IMO 9888560) will then be deployed for 6- and 8-night cruises to the Caribbean.
Das 1981 / 1982 bei Wärtsilä in Helsinki als SONG OF AMERICA für Royal Caribbean Cruise Line gebaute Kreuzfahrtschiff BELLA FORTUNA ist am 1. Februar im indischen Alang eingetroffen und wurde bereits auf Strand gesetzt, wo nun die Arbeiten zur Verschrottung beginnen.
Im Einsatz gewesen war der Cruise Liner zuletzt für Celestyal Cruises unter dem Namen CELESTYAL OLYMPIA (IMO 7927984). Celestyal Cruises hatte das Kreuzfahrtschiff seit 2012 betrieben, zunächst unter dem Namen LOUIS OLYMPIA. Mit Ankauf der AIDAaura von AIDA Cruises im Jahr 2023 hatten Celestyal Cruises keine Verwendung mehr für die alte Dame CELESTYAL OLYMPIA.
BELLA FORTUNA ex CELESTYAL OLYMPIA arrived in India for scrapping
The cruise ship BELLA FORTUNA, built in 1981/1982 by Wärtsilä in Helsinki as SONG OF AMERICA for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, arrived in Alang, India on February 1st and has already been beached, and work on scrapping will now start.
The cruise liner was last in service for Celestyal Cruises under the name CELESTYAL OLYMPIA (IMO 7927984). Celestyal Cruises had operated the cruise ship since 2012, initially under the name LOUIS OLYMPIA. With the purchase of the AIDAaura from AIDA Cruises in 2023, Celestyal Cruises no longer had any use for the old lady CELESTYAL OLYMPIA.

The world’s largest cruise ship continues to take shape. After the mighty Aquadome was put in place some time ago, the STAR OF THE SEAS was floated out on the shipyard Meyer Turku recently. After the construction dock was flooded, it took several days due to strong winds before the ship could leave the dock and be moved to the outfitting pier.
The STAR OF THE SEAS is the second ship in the Icon class and will be the largest cruise ship in the world. The cruise liner will have a gross tonnage of 250,800 and a passenger capacity of 5,600; she will be 365 meters long.

Fourth Icon Class Ship Ordered
Option for fifth and sixth ship
The Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku has secured the next newbuild order: Royal Caribbean has ordered the fourth ship of the Icon class – with the option to build a fifth and sixth ship of this class.
The ICON OF THE SEAS is currently the world’s largest cruise ship. She will be followed by the STAR OF THE SEAS in 2025 and the third ship in 2026. The current order is scheduled for 2027.
The ships of this class are 364.75 meters long, 67 meters wide and have a gross tonnage of around 249,000

Royal Caribbean gives first glimpses of the second the Icon class ship
The second Icon class ship for Royal Caribbean Cruises is scheduled to enter service in August 2025. As on the ICON OF THE SEAS, there will be eight neighborhoods, including these five that are only to be found on the Icon class:

Surfside – Designed for young families, the neighborhood lets them stay and play together all day long.
