Die MARDI GRAS, Carnival Cruise Lines’ erstes Schiff der Excel-Klasse, ist am 28. September an der Werft Chantier Naval de Marseille eingetroffen. Für routinemäßige Wartungsarbeiten sowie Klasse-Inspektionen wurde sie ins Trockendock gehoben.
Die MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444) wurde 2019 / 2020 bei Meyer Turku gebaut. Sie ist 344 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 181.808 vermessen. Auf 18 Passagierdecks hat sie Platz für ca. 6.300 Passagiere in 2.641 Kabinen.
The MARDI GRAS, Carnival Cruise Lines‘ first Excel-class ship, arrived at the Chantier Naval de Marseille shipyard on September 28th. She was placed in dry dock for routine maintenance and class inspections.
The MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444) was built by Meyer Turku in 2019/2020. She is 344 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 181,808 tons. She has 18 passenger decks and can accommodate approximately 6,300 passengers in 2,641 cabins.
Neuntes Schiff der Helios-Klasse komplettiert die Baureihe
Am 4. Dezember 2023 hat die Meyer-Werft, Papenburg, mit der CARNIVAL JUBILEE (IMO 9851737) das neunte und letzte Schiff der Helios-Klasse (Excellence-Klasse) abgeliefert. Die Übergabe fand in Bremerhaven statt. Carnival Cruise Lines haben damit nach der MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444) und CARNIVAL CELEBRATION (IMO 9837456) ihr drittes Schiff dieser Baureihe erhalten.
Die CARNIVAL JUBILEE ist 345 Meter lang, 42 Meter breit und bietet Platz für 5.228 Passagiere in 2.687 Kabinen. Nach der bevorstehenden Transatlantik-Überquerung wird die CARNIVAL JUBILEE in Galveston, Texas, stationiert, wo sie am 23. Dezember auch ihre Jungfernfahrt beginnen wird.

Ninth ship of the Helios class completes the series
On December 4, 2023, the Meyer Werft, Papenburg, Germany, handed over the CARNIVAL JUBILEE (IMO 9851737), the ninth and final ship of the Helios class (Excellence class) to Canrival Cruise Lines,. The handover took place in Bremerhaven. Carnival Cruise Lines have now received their third ship in this series after the MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444) and CARNIVAL CELEBRATION (IMO 9837456).
The CARNIVAL JUBILEE is 345 meters long, 42 meters wide and has a passanger capacity of 5,228 in 2,687 cabins. After the upcoming transatlantic crossing, the CARNIVAL JUBILEE will be based in Galveston, Texas.
Am Abend des 20. November 2022 wurde in Miami die CARNIVAL CELEBRATION (IMO 9837456)) getauft. Die Taufe reihte sich in die Feiern zum 50jährigen Bestehen von Carnival Cruise Line in diesem Jahr ein.
Taufpatin der CARNIVAL CELEBRATION war die US-amerikanische Schauspielerin Cassidy Gifford. Während der traditionellen Taufzeremonie war nicht nur Capt. Vincenzo Alcaras an ihre Seite, sondern auch ihre Mutter Kathie Lee Gifford, die im Jahr 1987 Taufpatin der CELEBRATION, eines der ersten Kreuzfahrtschiffe von Carnival Cruise Line, gewesen war.

On the evening of November 20, 2022, the CARNIVAL CELEBRATION (IMO 9837456)) was christened in Miami. The naming came as part of Carnival Cruise Line’s 50th anniversary celebrations earlier this year.
The godmother of the CARNIVAL CELEBRATION was the American actress Cassidy Gifford. During the traditional naming ceremony, not only Capt. Vincenzo Alcaras was at her side, but also her mother Kathie Lee Gifford, who in 1987 was the godmother of CELEBRATION, one of Carnival Cruise Line’s first cruise ships.

Die CARNIVAL CELEBRATION (IMO 9837456) ist von ihren ersten Probefahrten in der Ostsee zur Bauwerft Meyer Turku zurückgekehrt. Sie ist bereits das siebte Schiff der Excel-Klasse (Helios-Klasse) und nach der MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444) das zweite Schiff dieser Reihe für Carnival Cruise Line.
Das mit ca. 180.000 gross tons vermessene und mit LNG betriebene Kreuzfahrtschiff soll noch in diesem Jahr in Dienst gestellt werden. Die Auftakt-Reise ist für Mitte November geplant, danach soll es ab 21. November mit siebentägigen Reisen ab Miami in die westliche sowie östliche Karibik weitergehen.
Der Name CARNIVAL CELEBRATION war ganz bewusst gewählt worden, fällt doch die Indienststellung genau in das Jahr der 50-Jahr-Feiern von Carnival Cruise Line.
CARNIVAL CELEBRATION returned from Sea Trials
The CARNIVAL CELEBRATION (IMO 9837456) has returned to the shipyard Meyer Turku from her first sea trials in the Baltic Sea. She is already the seventh Excel class ship (Helios class) and, after the MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444), the second ship in this series for Carnival Cruise Line.
The cruise ship, measured at around 180,000 gross tons and powered by LNG, is scheduled to go into service before the end of this year. The first trip is planned for mid-November, after which seven-day trips from Miami to the western and eastern Caribbean will continue from November 21.
The name CARNIVAL CELEBRATION was deliberately chosen, since the commissioning coincides with the 50th anniversary of Carnival Cruise Line.
Auf den Meyer-Werften in Papenburg und Turku entstehen derzeit die innovativen, LNG-betriebenen Kreuzfahrtschiffe der Helios-Klasse (auch Excel-Klasse) für die Carnival-Gruppe, genauer gesagt für AIDA, Costa, P&O sowie Carnival Cruise Line.
Das letzte bestellte Schiff dieser Klasse, das für Auslieferung 2023 geplant ist, soll nun nicht wie ursprünglich geplant an AIDA Cruises abgeliefert werden, sondern in die Flotte der Carnival Cruise Lines integriert werden. Ein Name für das Schiff steht noch nicht fest.
AIDA betreibt mit der AIDAnova (IMO 9781865) das erste Schiff dieser Klasse und wird mit der AIDAcosma (IMO 9781877) in diesem Jahr ein Schwesterschiff erhalten. Carnival Cruise Lines haben Ende 2020 bereits die MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444) übernommen und erhalten 2022 mit der CARNIVAL CELEBRATION ihr zweites Schiff dieser Klasse.
AIDA will not get their third LNG ship
The innovative, LNG-powered Excel class cruise ships for the Carnival Group, more precisely for AIDA, Costa, P&O and Carnival Cruise Line, are currently being built on the Meyer shipyards in Papenburg and Turku.
The last ordered ship in this class, which is scheduled for delivery in 2023, is now not to be delivered to AIDA Cruises as originally planned, but rather to be integrated into the Carnival Cruise Lines fleet. A name for the ship has not yet been determined.
With the AIDAnova (IMO 9781865), AIDA is operating the first ship of this class and this year will get a sister ship with the AIDAcosma (IMO 9781877). Carnival Cruise Lines already took over the MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444) at the end of 2020 and will receive their second Helios class ship with the CARNIVAL CELEBRATION in 2022.

Die MARDI GRAS ist übrigens das zweite Schiff mit diesem Namen bei Carnival. Das allererste Schiff von Carnival Cruise Lines hieß ebenfalls MARDI GRAS. Sie war 1961 als RMS EMPRESS OF CANADA gebaut worden.

The Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku delivered the MARDI GRAS to Carnival Cruise Line on December 18th. Carnival Cruise Lines are adding their first LNG-powered cruise ship to their fleet.
The MARDI GRAS (IMO 9837444) is the fourth ship in the Helios class after the AIDAnova, COSTA SMERALDA and IONA. These ships are built alternately on the Papenburg and Turku shipyards. The MARDI GRAS is the first ship in this series for Carnival Cruise Line. She is 344 meters long and has space for around 6,300 passengers in 2,641 cabins.
A noticeable feature is the roller coaster on deck, according to Carnival the very first on a cruise ship.
Carnival Cruise Lines are expecting that their sister ship, the CARNIVAL CELEBRATION, will be delivered on time for the company’s 50th birthday in 2022.
Incidentally, the MARDI GRAS is the second ship with this name at Carnival. Carnival Cruise Lines’ very first ship was also called MARDI GRAS. She was built in 1961 as RMS EMPRESS OF CANADA.
