STAR OF THE SEAS, the newest ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, has officially joined the fleet and is scheduled to set sail from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, in August 2025. After nearly two years of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, the keys to the ship were handed over to Royal Caribbean. The handover was celebrated on July 10, 2025, in a ceremony attended by over 1,250 crew members and partners in the ship’s AquaTheater. Jason Liberty, President and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group, and Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean, recognized the hard work and innovation that went into the ship’s construction.
STAR OF THE SEAS is considered a pioneer for the future of family vacations, offering a variety of experiences. It will offer 7-day adventures in the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including stops at the „Perfect Day at CocoCay“ in the Bahamas.
Ship highlights include:
• Thrill Island: The largest Category 6 water park at sea, with six record-breaking waterslides, as well as Crown’s Edge, a 47-meter-high water park, and popular attractions such as the FlowRider surf simulator and rock climbing wall.
• Chill Island: A three-story area with four pools, including Royal Bay, the largest pool at sea, as well as live bands, DJs, a Swim & Tonic swim-up bar, and The Lime & Coconut.
• Surfside: A space specifically for young families, with Splashaway Bay and Baby Bay for children and toddlers, and Water’s Edge for adults. Dining options such as the Surfside Eatery and Pier 7 are also available.
• AquaDome: A tranquil oasis by day and a lively hotspot by night, with the AquaTheater for breathtaking shows and various dining options such as the AquaDome Market food hall, Rye & Bean Bar, Hooked Seafood, and the Overlook Bar.
• The Hideaway: An adults-only area, located 41 meters above the ocean, with a suspended infinity pool, DJ, bar, terrace with whirlpools, and ocean views.
In addition, STAR OF THE SEAS features familiar Royal Caribbean favorites such as the ocean-view Royal Promenade, the Pearl (the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture), the open-air Central Park with over 30,500 real plants, and the new Lincoln Park Supper Club. There are also expanded overnight accommodations in the Suite Neighborhood on four decks.

Currently under construction at Meyer Turku in Finland, the ship is scheduled to enter service in July 2026. She will spend her first season in the Western Mediterranean before being positioned to Port Everglades as a base port after the summer season. LEGEND OF THE SEAS (IMO 9888560) will then be deployed for 6- and 8-night cruises to the Caribbean.

The world’s largest cruise ship continues to take shape. After the mighty Aquadome was put in place some time ago, the STAR OF THE SEAS was floated out on the shipyard Meyer Turku recently. After the construction dock was flooded, it took several days due to strong winds before the ship could leave the dock and be moved to the outfitting pier.
The STAR OF THE SEAS is the second ship in the Icon class and will be the largest cruise ship in the world. The cruise liner will have a gross tonnage of 250,800 and a passenger capacity of 5,600; she will be 365 meters long.

Fourth Icon Class Ship Ordered

The Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku has secured the next newbuild order: Royal Caribbean has ordered the fourth ship of the Icon class – with the option to build a fifth and sixth ship of this class.
The ICON OF THE SEAS is currently the world’s largest cruise ship. She will be followed by the STAR OF THE SEAS in 2025 and the third ship in 2026. The current order is scheduled for 2027.
The ships of this class are 364.75 meters long, 67 meters wide and have a gross tonnage of around 249,000
Am 10. Juni 2024 hat die finnische Werft Meyer Turku die MEIN SCHIFF 7 (IMO 9851189) an TUI Cruises übergeben. Die MEIN SCHIFF 7 ist ein Schwesterschiff der MEIN SCHIFF 1 und MEIN SCHIFF 2.
Alle bisherigen Neubauten für TUI Cruises waren bei Meyer Turku erbaut worden: die MEIN SCHIFF 3 bis MEIN SCHIFF 6 sowie die größeren Schiffe MEIN SCHIFF 1 und MEIN SCHIFF 2 und nun auch die MEIN SCHIFF 7. Damit endet diese Serie allerdings auch. Weitere Schiffe hat TUI Cruises bei der Konkurrenz Fincantieri bestellt.
MEIN SCHIFF 7 ist 315,70 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 112.982 vermessen.
Am 11. Juni hat MEIN SCHIFF 7 in Turku abgelegt und Kurs auf Kiel genommen.
In den nächsten Tagen unternimmt das neue Flaggschiff von TUI Cruises zwei Kurz-Kreuzfahrten, sogenannte Test-Fahrten, die kurzfristig angeboten wurden:

On June 10, 2024, the Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku handed over the MEIN SCHIFF 7 (IMO 9851189) to TUI Cruises. The MEIN SCHIFF 7 is a sister ship of the MEIN SCHIFF 1 and MEIN SCHIFF 2.
All previous newbuilds for TUI Cruises were built by Meyer Turku: the MEIN SCHIFF 3 to MEIN SCHIFF 6 as well as the larger ships MEIN SCHIFF 1 and MEIN SCHIFF 2 and now also the MEIN SCHIFF 7. However, this series also ends there. TUI Cruises has ordered further ships from Meyer’s competitor Fincantieri.
MEIN SCHIFF 7 is 315.70 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 112,982.
On June 11, MEIN SCHIFF 7 left Turku and set course for Kiel, Germany.
In the next few days, TUI Cruises‘ new flagship will undertake two short cruises, so-called test trips, which were offered at short notice:

The Christening of MY SHIP 7 (MEIN SCHIFF 7)
The MEIN SCHIFF 7, currently under construction by Meyer Turku in Finland, is nearing completion. TUI Cruises now announced details about the christening of their newest ship. The christening will take place on June 22nd in the Bay of Kiel. Fenia Kalachani, environmental officer in the TUI Cruises fleet, will be the godmother.
The christening voyage will take place from June 21st to June 23rd. It starts in Kiel, Germany, leads to the Danish South Seas and ends again in Kiel. MEIN SCHIFF 7 will enter the harbor as part of the Kiel Week, a famous harbor event.
During the christening voyage, passengers will have the opportunity to discover the many new highlights of MEIN SCHIFF 7. TUI Cruises are even announcing a spectacular program for this trip with a new entertainment show, outstanding artists and many culinary and musical surprises.

Es war ein Event mit viel Show und Pomp, so wie man es wohl von einer Schiffstaufe in Miami erwartet.

The world footballer, who is now playing for Inter Miami, initiated the ship’s christening in style with a soccer ball. The christening of the ICON OF THE SEAS was celebrated with shows by high divers and aerial acrobats. It was an event with a lot of show and pomp, just as one would expect from a ship naming ceremony in Miami.

Am 15. Dezember 2023 fand die Kiellegung der STAR OF THE SEAS bei Meyer Turku in Finnland statt. Mit dem Herablassen des ersten Stahlblocks ins Baudock wurde damit mit dem Bau des Rumpfs begonnen. Unter dem ersten Stahlblock wurden traditionsgemäß einige Münzen gelegt, die dem Projekt Glück bringen sollen.
Die STAR OF THE SEAS wird ein Schwesterschiff der ICON OF THE SEAS, dem größten Kreuzfahrtschiff der Welt, welches erst vor kurzem von der Werft an Royal Caribbean Cruises übergeben worden war. Die Fertigstellung der STAR OF THE SEAS ist für 2025 vorgesehen.

Second Icon Class Ship
The keel laying of the STAR OF THE SEAS took place at Meyer Turku Shipyard in Finland on December 15, 2023. When the first steel block was lowered into the building dock, construction of the hull began. Traditionally, some coins were placed under the first steel block to bring good luck to the project.
The STAR OF THE SEAS will be a sister ship to the ICON OF THE SEAS, the largest cruise ship in the world, which was recently handed over from the shipyard to Royal Caribbean Cruises. The STAR OF THE SEAS is scheduled for completion in 2025.
