Sechstes Schiff der Infinity-Klasse fertiggestellt
Bereits am 20. April haben SunStone Ships mit der OCEAN ALBATROS ihr nunmehr sechstes Schiff der Infinity-Klasse von China Merchants Heavy Industries in Haimen übernommen. Das besonders innovative Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff mit charakteristischem X-Bow wird an Albatros Expeditions verchartert.
Die Infinity-Klasse von SunStone Ships wird noch mit einem siebten Schiff abgeschlossen, welches 2025 fertiggestellt werden soll. Anschließend will man die etwas größere Boundless-Klasse bauen lassen.

On April 20, SunStone Ships took delivery of the OCEAN ALBATROS, their sixth Infinity-class ship, from China Merchants Heavy Industries in Haimen. The particularly innovative expedition cruise ship with the characteristic X-Bow is chartered to Albatros Expeditions.
SunStone Ships‘ Infinity class will be concluded with a seventh ship, scheduled for completion in 2025. Afterwards, the intend to have built the slightly larger Boundless class .
Am 23. Februar wurde das von Aurora Expeditions betriebene Kreuzfahrtschiff SYLVIA EARLE in der Antarktis getauft. Taufpatin war die Meeresbiologin, Ozeanographin, Forscherin und Namensgeberin des Schiffs Dr. Sylvia Earle.

Dr. Sylvia Earle war die erste Chef-Wissenschaftlerin der US-amerikanischen National & Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. Vom Time Magazine wurde sie als „Hero of the Planet“ bezeichnet. Dr. Sylvia Earle schafft mit ihrer eigenen Naturschutz-Initiative Mission Blue ein globales Netzwerk von Meeresschutzgebieten, bekannt als „Hope Spots“.

Michael Heath, CEO von Aurora Expeditions, betonte, es sei eine Ehre, Dr. Earle als Botschafter des Schiffes zu haben.

Schiffskonzept
Mit ihrem starken Fokus auf Bildung und Naturschutz ist das neue Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff SYLVIA EARLE (IMO 9872327) so konzipiert, dass es 132 Passagiere pro Reise aufnehmen kann und eine ungezwungene Atmosphäre bietet. Ein sehr erfahrenes Expeditionsteam führt Passagiere in kleinen Gruppen auf unzähligen Ausflügen zu Wasser und zu Land. Dazu gehören spannende Aktivitäten wie unter anderem Zodiac-Exkursionen, Spaziergänge und Wanderungen, Seekajakfahren, Tauchen, Schnorcheln, Paddeln, Skifahren, Fotografieren und Vogelbeobachtung. Ein spezielles Wissenschaftszentrum ist die Drehscheibe für eine Vielzahl von partizipativen und pädagogischen Citizen Science-Programmen.
On February 23, the cruise ship SYLVIA EARLE, operated by Aurora Expeditions, was christened in Antarctica. Godmother was the marine biologist, oceanographer, researcher and namesake of the ship Dr. Sylvia Earle.

Dr. Sylvia Earle was the first female chief scientist of the US National & Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. She was dubbed the „Hero of the Planet“ by Time Magazine. with her own conservation initiative Mission Blue Dr Sylvia Earle is creating a global network of marine protected areas known as „Hope Spots“.

With a strong focus on education and conservation, the new expedition cruise ship SYLVIA EARLE (IMO 9872327) is designed to accommodate 132 passengers per voyage and offer a casual atmosphere. A highly experienced expedition team guides passengers in small groups on countless excursions on water and land. These include exciting activities such as Zodiac excursions, walks and hikes, sea kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, paddling, skiing, photography and bird watching, among others. A dedicated Science Center is the hub for a variety of participatory and educational Citizen Science programs.

SunStone took Delivery of two new Expedition Cruise Ships
OCEAN ODYSSEY and SYLVIA EARLE delivered
On October 21, SunStone took delivery of the fourth and fifth Infinity-class expedition cruise ships, SYLVIA EARLE (IMO 9872327) and OCEAN ODYSSEY (IMO 9880673). Built by China Merchants Heavy Industries, Haimen, under Norwegian Ulstein shipyard license, these 104 meter long ships are characterized by their special X-Bow, a particularly energy-efficient and stabilizing bow shape designed by Ulstein Design + Solution.
The Infinity Class ships have passenger capacities between 130 and 200. They have Ice Class 1A, Polar Code 6.
The SYLVIA EARLE is chartered to Aurora Expeditions, the OCEAN ODYSSEY to Vantage Deluxe World Travel.
The previously delivered sister ships are the GREG MORTIMER (IMO 9834648), OCEAN EXPLORER (IMO 9883194) and OCEAN VICTORY (IMO 9868869). With the OCEAN ALBATROS, another ship of the Infinity class is to follow in 2023.

Am 9. November 2021 ist nun bereits das fünfte Schiff der Infinity-Klasse bei China Merchants Heavy Industries in Haimen vom Stapel gelaufen: die OCEAN ODYSSEY (IMO 9880673). Diese ist ebenso wie die bereits ausgelieferte OCEAN EXPLORER für den Charterer Vantage Travel vorgesehen und soll im ersten Quartal 2022 abgeliefert werden.
Die weiteren in Bau befindlichen Schiffe dieser Klasse sind die OCEAN ALBATROS und OCEAN DISCOVERER.

Noch in diesem Jahr soll mit der SYLVIA EARLE ein weiteres Schiff der Infinity-Klasse abgeliefert werden. Die nächsten Schiffe dieser Klasse, die von CMHI fertig gestellt werden sind die OCEAN ODYSSEY und OCEAN ALBATROS, die für Ablieferung 2022 vorgesehen sind, sowie die OCEAN DISCOVERER für 2023.

On October 15, 2021, the US shipping company SunStone Ships took over the OCEAN VICTORY (IMO 9868869), their third Infinity class expedition cruise ship, from China Merchants Heavy Industries. It is a cruise ship with a length of 104.40 meters and a gross tonnage of 8035. The 104 meter and 18 meter wide expedition cruise ships for SunStone Ships impress with their eye-catching and innovative design with X-Bow. The ships have ice class PC 6 and are designed for 130 to 200 passengers.

The first ship in the Infinity class was the GREG MORTIMER. In 2021 – before the SYLVIA EARLE – the OCEAN VICTORY and OCEAN EXPLORER will be delivered. The OCEAN ODYSSEY and OCEAN ALBATROS are to follow in 2022, and finally the OCEAN DISCOVERER in 2023. The keel-laying of the OCEAN ODYSSEY was celebrated at the same time as the launch of the SYLVIA EARLE.

Extraordinary X-Bow ships soon to be delivered
The new Infinity class ships, the OCEAN VICTORY and OCEAN EXPLORER, had started their sea trials on January 5th. On board were employees from the shipyard, the classification society Bureau Veritas and marine advisors from SunStone. The China-built Infinity class ships are 104 meters long and have the innovative, fuel-saving and rolling motion-reducing X-Bow. Further technical features are a dynamic positioning system and zero speed stabilizers. The ships are designed for 130 to 200 passengers with a crew capacity of between 85 and 115. The first ship of this class is the GREG MORTIMER, which attracted attention in spring 2020.
Auch 2021 werden mehrere Kreuzfahrtschiffe fertiggestellt. Mit den neuen Schiffen wird die verlorene Kapazität durch die Verschrottungen des vergangenen Jahres leicht wieder wettgemacht. Das sind die geplanten Ablieferungen für 2021 (siehe unten):

Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff für Aurora Expeditions
In China entstehen derzeit mehrere Expeditionskreuzfahrtschiffe der Infinity-Klasse für SunStone Ships. Eines davon ist die SYLVIA EARLE, die voraussichtlich im Oktober 2021 abgeliefert werden soll, um dann in Charter für Aurora Expeditions zu fahren. Die SYLVIA EARLE ist nach der GREG MORTIMER bereits das zweite Schiff dieser Klasse für Aurora Expeditions.
Das Schiff mit dem ebenso auffälligen wie ökonomischen X-Bow-Desing wird benannt nach der Meeresbiologin Dr. Sylvia Earle.
Zu den Kreuzfahrtzielen des Schiffs werden so ausgefallene Destinationen wie Alaska, Baja California, der Russische Ferne Osten, Raja Ampat und West Papua gehören.

Aurora Expeditions announced the name for their second expedition ship newbuilding being SYLVIA EARLE. The cruise ship will be named after the well-known US marine biologist and oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, who is also an environmental activist for marine protection. The expedition cruise ship is under construction in China and belongs to the Infinity class for SunStone Ships. Aurora Expeditions recently christened their GREG MORTIMER, a sister ship to SYLVIA EARLE. The SYLVIA EARLE will have a unique glass atrium lounge over two levels in the bow, from which passengers can enjoy the view ahead. There will be an infinity pool aft. In addition, the ship is built with the innovative and fuel-savin X-Bow. The company said the name honors Dr. Earle as an experienced marine biologist, oceanographer and researcher.
