Am 6. November wurde das zweite Schiff der Sphere-Klasse, die STAR PRINCESS, in Fort Lauderdale, USA, feierlich getauft. Taufpaten waren Camila und Matthew McConaughey, Mitbegründer von Pantalones Organic Tequila. Dabei ließen sie eine Flasche ihres Tequilas an der Bordwand des Kreuzfahrtschiffs zerschellen, um dem Schiff, den Gästen und der Besatzung viel Glück auf See zu wünschen.
Die glamouröse Taufzeremonie, moderiert von der Reise- und Lifestyle-TV-Moderatorin Dawn McCoy, fand in der Princess-Arena dder STAR PRINCESS statt. Die Gäste genossen einen Abend mit inspirierenden Reden von Princess-Präsident Gus Antorcha und Kapitän Gennaro Arma sowie Live-Unterhaltung. Den krönenden Abschluss bildete ein besonderer Auftritt der neunfachen Grammy-Gewinnerin Sheryl Crow. Eine funkelnde Drohnen-Show erleuchtete den Sternenhimmel und würdigte die bevorstehende Reise der Star Princess nach Alaska.
On November 6, the second Sphere class ship, the STAR PRINCESS, was christened in a grand ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, USA. The ship’s godparents were Camila and Matthew McConaughey, co-founders of Pantalones Organic Tequila. They smashed a bottle of their tequila against the hull of the cruise ship to wish the ship, its guests, and crew good luck at sea.
The glamorous christening ceremony, hosted by travel and lifestyle TV presenter Dawn McCoy, took place in the Princess Arena on the STAR PRINCESS. Guests enjoyed an evening of inspiring speeches by Princess President Gus Antorcha and Captain Gennaro Arma, as well as live entertainment. The evening culminated in a special performance by nine-time Grammy Award winner Sheryl Crow. A sparkling drone show illuminated the starry sky, celebrating the upcoming journey of the Star Princess to Alaska.
On September 26, Princess Cruises took delivery of their second Sphere-class ship from Fincantieri. Participating in the delivery ceremony of the STAR PRINCESS (IMO 9863120) were:

Following her Caribbean season, she will sail through the Panama Canal to the U.S. West Coast to begin her first Alaskan season.

Built in 2004, the ship is currently undergoing routine maintenance, including technical upgrades and class inspections. Minor upgrades and general maintenance are also planned for public areas and cabins. Sapphire Princess will welcome guests again on October 8, 2025, and depart from Los Angeles for a seven-day cruise to the Mexican Riviera.
The 2,600-passenger ship is scheduled to spend the winter cruising to South America and Antarctica, as well as embark on a 32-day cruise to the South Pacific and Hawaii.

Um sowohl die Energieeffizienz als auch die Manövrierfähigkeit zu optimieren, ist das Schiff mit zwei Azipod-Antrieben ausgestattet, die eine 360-Grad-Drehung ermöglichen, sowie mit vier leistungsstarken Bugstrahlrudern für präzise Manöver in Häfen.

Advanced Technology and Environmental Awareness
From August 9 to 12, the STAR PRINCESS (IMO 9863120) completed her final sea trials in the Adriatic Sea. Under the direction of Captain Gennaro Arma, the steering, navigation systems, and propulsion systems were comprehensively tested. As the second ship in the Princess fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the STAR PRINCESS sets new standards in emissions reduction.
To optimize both energy efficiency and maneuverability, the ship is equipped with two Azipod propulsion units, enabling 360-degree rotation, and four powerful bow thrusters for precise maneuvering in harbors.
Luxury and Entertainment on Board
The STAR PRINCESS, the sister ship of the SUN PRINCESS, has a gross tonnage of 177,800 tons and can accommodate up to 4,300 guests. During the final construction phase, 30 different restaurants and bars, as well as a diverse entertainment offering, will be installed on board.
A special highlight are the luxurious accommodations, including over 1,500 balcony cabins offering breathtaking ocean views. Exclusive venues include „The Dome,“ a relaxation and entertainment area with an innovative design; „The Arena,“ a state-of-the-art theater; and „Spellbound by Magic Castle®,“ a unique speakeasy experience.
Die britische Ambassador Cruise Line und die französische Compagnie Française de Croisières fusionieren und treten ab Ende Januar dieses Jahres als Ambassador Group auf. Die neue Kreuzfahrtgesellschaft wird dann drei Schiffe in ihrer Flotte haben. Ambassador Cruise Line bringt ihre beiden Schiffe AMBITION und AMBIENCE ein, CFC bringt ihre RENAISSANCE ein. Dabei werden Schiffe und Routen wie bisher auf britisches bzw. französisches Publikum zugeschnitten sein. Dabei fokussiert man sich auf älteres Publikum mit Kreuzfahrten ab heimatnahen Häfen ohne Flug-Anreisen. Im Winter 2025/26 soll aber auch ein Karibik-Programm mit Flug-Anreisen hinzukommen.
Die Flotte
Bei den drei Schiffen der Gesellschaft handelt es sich um ältere Tonnage.
Bei der AMBITION (IMO 9172777) handelt es sich um die 1999 bei Chantiers de l’Atlantique für Festival Cruises gebaute MISTRAL, die in der Folge als GRAND MISTRAL für Ibero Cruceros, als COSTA neoRIVIERA für Costa Cruises und als AIDAmira für Aida fuhr. Sie ist 216 Meter lang, mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 48.123 vermessen und hat Platz für ca. 1900 Passagiere.
Die AMBIENCE (IMO 8521232) ist die ehemalige CROWN PRINCESS von Princess Cruises, gebaut 1991 bei Fincantieri Monfalcone. Sie fuhr danach als PACIFIC DAWN für P&O Australia, sollte ab 2021 eigentlich für Cruise and Maritime Voyages unter dem Namen AMY JOHNSON fahren, was durch den Konkurs der Reederei im Jahr 2020 jedoch verhindert wurde. Ein Einsatz unter dem neuen Namen SATOSHI als schwimmende Residenz für die Gesellschaft Ocean Builders kam ebenfalls nicht zustande, und im Oktober 2021 erwarb Ambassador Cruise Line das Schiff. Der Cruise Liner ist 245 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 70.285 vermessen. Er hat Platz mehr als 2.000 Passagiere.
Die RENAISSANCE (IMO 8919257) wurde 1993 als MAASDAM für Holland America Line gebaut, wurde im Juli 2020 von Seajets übernommen, die das Schiff in AEGEAN MYTH umbenannten, es aber nie zum Einsatz brachten. Stattdessen übernahm die Compagnie Française de Croisières den Cruise Liner im August 2022. Das Schiff ist 219 Meter lang, mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 55.575 vermessen und hat Platz für 1.629 Passagiere. Die RENAISSANCE soll noch im Januar dieses Jahres bei einem Trockendock-Aufenthalt mit neuen Umwelt-Technologien aufgewertet werden.
The merger of Compagnie Française de Croisières and Ambassador Cruise Line
The British Ambassador Cruise Line and the French Compagnie Française de Croisières are going to merge and will operate as the Ambassador Group from the end of January this year. The new cruise company will then have three ships in its fleet. Ambassador Cruise Line is bringing in its two ships AMBITION and AMBIENCE, while CFC is bringing in its RENAISSANCE. As before, the ships and routes will be tailored to the British and French market. The focus is on senior traveller with cruises from ports close to home without flights. In winter 2025/26, however, a Caribbean program with flights will also be added.
The fleet
The company’s three ships are older tonnage.
The AMBITION (IMO 9172777) is the MISTRAL, built in 1999 by Chantiers de l’Atlantique for Festival Cruises, which subsequently sailed as GRAND MISTRAL for Ibero Cruceros, as COSTA neoRIVIERA for Costa Cruises and as AIDAmira for Aida. The AMBIENCE (IMO 8521232) is the former CROWN PRINCESS operated by Princess Cruises, built in 1991 by Fincantieri Monfalcone. She then sailed as PACIFIC DAWN for P&O Australia, but was supposed to sail for Cruise and Maritime Voyages under the name AMY JOHNSON from 2021, but this was prevented by the shipping company’s bankruptcy in 2020. A deployment under the new name SATOSHI as a floating residence for the company Ocean Builders c also did not materialize, and in October 2021 Ambassador Cruise Line acquired the ship. The cruise liner is 245 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 70,285. She has a passenger capacity of more than 2,000.
The RENAISSANCE (IMO 8919257) was built in 1993 as MAASDAM for Holland America Line, was taken over by Seajets in July 2020, who renamed the ship AEGEAN MYTH but never put it into service. Instead, Compagnie Française de Croisières took over the cruise liner in August 2022. The ship is 219 meters long, has a gross tonnage of 55,575 and has space for 1,629 passengers. The RENAISSANCE is scheduled to be upgraded with new environmental technologies during a dry dock stay in January this year.

Die von Phoenix Reisen betriebene ARTANIA (IMO 8201480) feiert 40-jähriges Jubiläum. Am 30. Oktober 1984 wurde das bei Wärtsilä in Helsinki als ROYAL PRINCESS gebaute Kreuzfahrtschiff an Princess Cruises übergeben. Am 15. November taufte Princess Diana das Schiff in Southampton.
Der 230,61 Meter lange Cruise Liner fuhr von 2005 bis 2011 unter dem Namen ARTEMIS für P&O Cruises, seit Mai 2011 ist der Liner für Phoenix Reisen im Einsatz. Die ARTANIA erfreut sich nach wie vor großer Beliebtheit bei den Passagieren. Sie diente auch schon als Drehort für die ZDF-Serie „Das Traumschiff“.
40th anniversary for ROYAL PRINCESS / ARTANIA
The ARTANIA (IMO 8201480), operated by Phoenix Reisen, Germany, has got her 40th anniversary. On October 30, 1984, the cruise ship, built by Wärtsilä in Helsinki as ROYAL PRINCESS, was handed over to Princess Cruises. On November 15, Princess Diana christened the ship in Southampton.
The 230.61-meter-long cruise liner sailed for P&O Cruises from 2005 to 2011 under the name ARTEMIS, and is under operation for Phoenix Reisen, Germany, since May 2011. The ARTANIA continues to enjoy great popularity among passengers. She even served as a filming location for the TV series „The Dream Ship“.

STAR PRINCESS Floated Out
On September 26, the STAR PRINCESS was floated out on the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. When completed, the cruise liner will be the second largest ship ever built in Italy. During the float-out ceremony the STAR PRINCESS was christened by the godmothers Chiara del Vecchio, 3rd engineer on board the SUN PRINCESS, and Francesca Maraventano, management assistant at Fincantieri in Monfalcone.
The STAR PRINCESS, second sphere class cruise ship, is scheduled to be delivered in autumn 2025. Seh will have a gross tonnage of 178,000 and a passenger capacity of 4,300.
Am 23.April wurde die SUN PRINCESS, erstes Kreuzfahrtschiff der Sphere-Klasse für Princess Cruises, feierlich in Barcelona getauft. Taufpatin war die Schauspielerin und Performerin Hannah Waddingham. Die Feier fand an Bord in der Princess Arena statt. Schauspieler und Zauberer Michael Carbonaro führte als Zeremonienmeister durch die Veranstaltung.
In maritimer Tradition wurde die SUN PRINCESS durch Zerschellen einer Flasche Champagner am Bug getauft, nachdem Hannah Waddingham die Taufworte gesprochen hatte: „I name this ship SUN PRINCESS. May God bless her and all who sail on her“.

On April 23rd, the SUN PRINCESS, the first Sphere class cruise ship for Princess Cruises, was christened in Barcelona. Godmother was the actress and performer Hannah Waddingham. The celebration took place on board in the Princess Arena. Actor and magician Michael Carbonaro led the event as master of ceremonies.
In maritime tradition, the SUN PRINCESS was christened by smashing a bottle of champagne on the bow after Hannah Waddingham said the christening words: “I name this ship SUN PRINCESS. May God bless her and all who sail on her”.

The Next Cruise Ship Naming Ceremonies
Ship christenings are usually outstanding events, especially cruise ship christenings. There will be a number of cruise ship naming ceremonies in the coming few weeks, including two completely new ships. Here are the dates and – as far as already known – the names of the godparents:

SUN PRINCESS Delivered to Princess Cruises
Princess Cruises took delivery of the SUN PRINCESS (IMO 9863118) from the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, on February 14th. She is not only the most modern ship in the Princess Cruises fleet, but also the largest cruise ship completed in Italy to date and the first from Fincantieri with LNG propulsion.

To the shipping company’s regret, however, the first voyage on February 18th had to be canceled. The maiden voyage now starts on February 28th from Civitavecchia, Italy.

The SUN PRINCESS, currently under construction by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, is the largest ship ever built in Italy with 175,500 gross tons and a passenger capacity of 4,300. The STAR PRINCESS will be the second cruise ship in this series. Both ships will be powered by LNG.
While the SUN PRINCESS is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2024, the STAR PRINCESS will be delivered in summer of 2025. Her first voyage is scheduled to begin on August 4, 2025 in Civitavecchia and head to the Aegean Sea. Further 9- and 10-night cruises from Civitavecchia, Athens and Trieste to follow.
