The Hamburg Cruise Days 2025 will take place from September 12th to 14th. Along the banks of the Elbe river, from HafenCity to the St. Pauli Landing Stages, there will once again be a maritime mile with numerous booths, where cruise lines will also be presenting themselves. The biggest highlights of the Hamburg Cruise Days this year, of course, will be the cruise ships. They will present themselves to the public, even in the blue-illuminated harbor. Vom 12. Bis 14. September finden die Hamburg Cruise Days 2025 statt. Ehemaliger Cruise Liner von Hapag-Lloyd feiert Jubiläum
200 Meter lang, eine Bruttoraumzahl von ca. 30.000 – was heute als Kreuzfahrtschiff mittlerer Größe eingeordnet wird, galt seinerzeit bei Fertigstellung als eines der größten der Welt: MS EUROPA (IMO 7822457).
Am 5. Dezember 1981 wurde die EUROPA von der Bauwerft Bremer Vulkan an Hapag-Lloyd übergeben. Damit löste die Reederei ihre vorige EUROPA ex KUNGSHOLM ab, welche ihrerseits anschließend noch drei Jahre für Costa fuhr.
Die neue EUROPA war bis 1999 das Luxus-Kreuzfahrtschiff von Hapag-Lloyd, bis sie selbst durch einen Neubau ersetzt wurde. Die EUROPA (IMO 7822457) war zu der Zeit bereits an Star Cruises verkauft worden und fuhr für diese in Südost-Asien unter dem Namen SUPERSTAR EUROPE, später SUPERSTAR ARIES. 2004 kehrte der Cruise Liner zurück nach Europa. Die spanischen Pullmantur Cruises hatten ihn gekauft und setzten ihn fortan als HOLIDAY DREAM für Mittelmeer- und Karibik-Kreuzfahrten ein.
Nachdem Pullmantur Cruises von Royal Caribbean International übernommen worden waren, wurde das Schiff an Croisières de France übertragen und in BLEU DE FRANCE umbenannt.
2011 erfolgte ein weiterer Eigner-Wechsel: Der Liner wurde von den britischen Saga Cruises übernommen und nach Umbauarbeiten als SAGA SAPPHIRE in Fahrt gebracht. Als Saga Cruises ihre ersten Neubauten in Dienst stellte, wurde die SAGA SAPPHIRE überflüssig. Mit der türkischen Anex Tourism Group fand sich 2020 ein neuer Käufer, der das Schiff unter der Marke Selectum Blu Cruises im August 2021 erstmals wieder in Fahrt brachte. Der neue Name ist nun: BLUE SAPPHIRE.
40 years ago: MV EUROPA delivered
200 meters long, a gross tonnage of approx. 30,000 – what is now classified as a medium-sized cruise ship was considered one of the largest in the world when it was completed: MV EUROPA (IMO 7822457).
On December 5, 1981, the EUROPA was handed over to Hapag-Lloyd by the Bremer Vulkan shipyard. The shipping company replaced their previous EUROPA ex KUNGSHOLM, which in turn sailed for Costa for another three years.
The new EUROPA was Hapag-Lloyd’s luxury cruise ship until 1999 when she was replaced by a new ship. The EUROPA (IMO 7822457) had already been sold to Star Cruises at that time and sailed for them in Southeast Asia under the name SUPERSTAR EUROPE, later SUPERSTAR ARIES. In 2004 the Cruise Liner returned to Europe. The Spanish Pullmantur Cruises had acquired her and from then on used her as HOLIDAY DREAM for Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises.
After Pullmantur Cruises was taken over by Royal Caribbean International, the ship was transferred to Croisières de France and renamed BLEU DE FRANCE.
In 2011 there was another change of owner: the liner was taken over by the British Saga Cruises and, after renovation work, brought into service as SAGA SAPPHIRE. When Saga Cruises put their first newbuild into service, the SAGA SAPPHIRE became superfluous. With the Turkish Anex Tourism Group, a new buyer was found in 2020 who put the ship back into service for the first time under the Selectum Blu Cruises brand in August 2021. The new name is now: BLUE SAPPHIRE.
Die vielleicht außergewöhnlichste Schiffstaufe des Jahres
Am 24. August soll die HANSEATIC spirit(IMO 9857640) , der dritte Neubau der Expeditionsklasse für Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, der Ende Juni von der norwegischen VARD-Werft abgeliefert wurde, getauft werden. Die Taufe findet diesmal vor der Nordsee-Insel Helgoland statt, und zwar im Rahmen einer fünftägigen Taufreise, die in Hamburg beginnt und endet. Neben den Taufgästen von Bord sind die Helgoländer sowie Inselgäste eingeladen, der Taufzeremonie beizuwohnen. Dazu sollen sich Taufgäste und Zuschauer in die bordeigenen Zodiacs der HANSEATIC spiritbzw. in Helgoländer Börteboote (inseleigene Tenderboote) oder andere vor Ort befindliche Boote begeben. Nähere Einzelheiten zum Ablauf der Feierlichkeiten wurden bisher nicht gemacht. Wer sich jedoch an die Taufe des Schwesterschiffs HANSEATIC inspiration erinnnert, bekommt eine Vorstellung von dem, was geplant sein könnte.

HANSEATIC spirit: High Seas Naming Ceremony near Heligoland
The HANSEATIC spirit, the third expedition class newbuild for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, which was delivered by the Norwegian VARD shipyard at the end of June, is to be christened on August 24. This time the naming ceremony will take place near the North Sea island of Heligoland as part of a five-day voyage that will start and end in Hamburg. In addition to the christening guests on board, the Heligoland and island guests are invited to attend the naming ceremony. For this purpose, guests and spectators should board the HANSEATIC spirit owned Zodiacs resp. the Heligoland based tender boats (“Börte” boats) or other boats on site. More details about the course of the celebrations have not yet been revealed. However, anyone who remembers the christening of the sister ship HANSEATIC inspiration will get an idea of what could be planned.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises have taken over their HANSEATIC spirit from the Norwegian VARD shipyard in Tomrefjord, a subsidiary of Fincantieri. Jedoch kam das Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff unter seinem ursprünglichen Namen nie in Fahrt. Erst 1993 erfolgte die Taufe auf den Namen HANSEATIC. Taufpatin war Tagesschau-Sprecherin Dagmar Berghoff. Eigner des Schiffs war der Hamburger Unternehmer und Mäzen Günter Powalla.
30 years HANSEATIC – Popular expedition cruise ship’s anniversary
In June 1991 the SOCIETY EXPLORER was completed at Finnyards in Rauma and delivered to Society Adventurer Shipping Co. However, the expedition cruise ship was never sailing under her original name. She was not christened HANSEATIC until 1993. Godmother was the German TV spokeswoman Dagmar Berghoff. The ship was owned by the Hamburg entrepreneur and patron Günter Powalla.
Die auf Neuseeland ansässigen Heritage Expeditions werden die frühere HANSEATIC, derzeit aufliegend unter dem Namen RCGS RESOLUTE, übernehmen. Der kleine Cruise Liner soll unter dem Namen HERITAGE ADVENTURER ab 2022 wieder in See stechen.
Das 124 Meter lange Schiff wurde 1991 in im finnischen Rauma bei Finnyards als SOCIETY EXPLORER (IMO 9000168) gebaut. Nach ihrer 25jährigen Karriere als HANSEATIC kam sie nach der Übernahme durch One Ocean Expeditions in unsicheres Fahrwasser. Nach der Insolvenz der Gesellschaft wurde die RCGS RESOLUTE im Oktober 2019 in Buenos Aires an die Kette gelegt und im März 2020 wieder freigegeben. Danach kam es in der Karibik zu einem Zwischenfall mit einem venezolanischen Patrouillenboot, bei dem letzteres nach Kollision sank. Im Juni 2020 wurde das Schiff in Curaçao in versteigert. Seit Ende Oktober 2020 liegt die RCGS RESOLUTE in der Nähe von Piräus auf.

Heritage Expeditions taking over former HANSEATIC
Heritage Expeditions based in New Zealand will take over the former HANSEATIC, currently laid up as RCGS RESOLUTE. The small cruise liner is scheduled to sail again as from 2022 under the name HERITAGE ADVENTURER.
The 124 meter long ship was built in 1991 by Finnyards in Rauma, Finland as SOCIETY EXPLORER (IMO 9000168). After her 25-year career as HANSEATIC, she found herself in unsafe waters after being taken over by One Ocean Expeditions. After the company’s insolvency, RCGS RESOLUTE was arrested in Buenos Aires in October 2019 and released again in March 2020. Then there was an incident in the Caribbean with a Venezuelan patrol boat, in which the latter sank after a collision. In June 2020 the ship was auctioned in Curaçao. The RCGS RESOLUTE has been laid up near Piraeus since the end of October 2020.
Die allererste Reise der HANSEATIC spirit führt von der VARD-Werft im rumänische Tulcea nach Norwegen. Diese erste Reise geschieht allerdings noch im Schlepp durch den Schlepper ERACLEA. In Norwegen wird der Endausbau der HANSEATIC spirit (IMO 9857640) vorgenommen.
Mit der HANSEATIC spirit wird das Trio der neuen Expeditionskreuzfahrtschiffe von Hapag-Lloyd Cruises komplettiert. 2019 waren die beiden Schwesterschiffe HANSEATIC nature und HANSEATIC inspiration in Dienst gestellt worden. Die HANSEATIC spirit soll 2021 an Hapag-Lloyd Cruises abgeliefert werden.

The very first voyage of the HANSEATIC spirit is from the VARD shipyard in Tulcea, Romania, to Norway. However, this first voyage is under tow by the tug ERACLEA. The final out-fitting of the HANSEATIC spirit(IMO 9857640) is carried out in Norway.
The HANSEATIC spirit completes the trio of new expedition cruise ships for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. In 2019, the two sister ships HANSEATIC nature and HANSEATIC inspiration were put into service. The HANSEATIC spirit is to be delivered to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises in 2021.

On December 22nd, 1980, exactly 40 years ago, the EUROPA (IMO 7822457) was launched on the Vulkan Yard in Bremen, Germany. The luxury liner was commissioned by Hapag-Lloyd to replace the EUROPA (IMO 5197664) built in 1953 as KUNGSHOLM.
The new and almost 200 meter long cruise liner EUROPA was put into service in 1982. She sailed for Hapag-Lloyd until 1999, when she was replaced by her successor of the same name. Star Cruises had already been the new owners since 1998 and began using the liner in Southeast Asia from October 1999, first as SUPERSTAR EUROPE and later under the name SUPERSTAR ARIES.

In 2020 the Turkish company Anex Tour took over the liner and renamed her BLUE SAPPHIRE. The purchase contract had already been concluded the year before. Against the background of the corona pandemic, the BLUE SAPPHIRE has not yet been put into service for cruises for Anex Tour.
Während Saga Cruises der Übernahme ihres Neubaus SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE entgegensehen, haben sie ihre SAGA SAPPHIRE (IMO 7822457) bereits an die türkische Anex Tour übergeben. Der neue Name des Schiffs ist BLUE SAPPHIRE. Anex Tour beabsichtigt, mit dem Schiff ab 2021 mit Kreuzfahrten zu starten.
Der Cruise Liner wurde 1980 / 1981 vom Bremer Vulkan für Hapag-Lloyd gebaut und galt seinerzeit als eines der größten Kreuzfahrtschiffe der Welt.
SAGA SAPPHIRE renamed BLUE SAPPHIRE
Former EUROPE now under Anex Tour flag
While Saga Cruises are looking forward to the takeover of their new SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE, they have already handed over their SAGA SAPPHIRE (IMO 7822457) to the Turkish Anex Tour. The new name of the ship is BLUE SAPPHIRE. Anex Tour intends to start cruising with the ship from 2021.
The cruise liner was built by Bremer Vulkan for Hapag-Lloyd in 1980/1981 and was considered one of the largest cruise ships in the world at the time.

Vor dem Hintergrund der Corona-Pandemie haben die Kreuzfahrtgesellschaften bisher stets nur die Verlängerung der Aussetzung ihrer Kreuzfahrten bekannt gegeben und damit suggeriert, danach gehe es wie gewohnt und gebucht weiter. Dabei ist eine Wiederaufnahme von gebuchten Kreuzfahrten in diesem Sommer höchst unrealistisch.
Kurz-Kreuzfahrten mit Passagier-Obergrenzen
Der deutsche Touristik-Konzern TUI wagt sich nun aus der Deckung und gibt erste vorsichtige Planungen für Kreuzfahrten in diesem Sommer bekannt, die durchaus realistischer sind. Dabei wird offensichtlich in erster Linie über Kurz-Kreuzfahrten nachgedacht, wahrscheinlich mit Fokus auf die Nordsee. Die Passagier-Obergrenze soll dabei unter 1.000 je Schiff liegen. Bezogen auf die großen Schiffe von TUI Cruises entspräche das etwa einer Drittel-Auslastung. Damit könnte man auch sicherstellen, dass die Abstandsregeln an Bord unter den Passagieren eingehalten werden könnten.
Gesundheitsmaßnahmen
Zu den Maßnahmen an Bord zählt u.a. der Wegfall der Selbstbedienung in Restaurants sowie eine Anzahl von maximal 10 Kindern in den Kids Clubs. Eine weitere Maßnahme an Bord der Schiffe soll der sogenannte Outbreak Prevention Plan Level 3 sein. Dieser bedeutet das Reinigen aller berührten Bereiche und Armaturen mindestens alle 30 Minuten. Außerdem sollen COVID-19-Test Kits sowie eine höhere Anzahl an medizinischem Personal an Bord sein.
Wohin geht die Reise?
Unter Einhaltung dieser Maßnahmen könnte die Gesellschaft sich vorstellen, Kreuzfahrten noch in diesem Sommer anzubieten. Ob dabei auch einzelne Zwischen-Häfen angelaufen werden sollen, wurde offen gelassen und hängt sicherlich von den Verhandlungen mit örtlichen Behörden ab. Ohnehin bieten sich nur Kreuzfahrten an, die heimatnah starten und enden, da bekanntlich so gut wie alle Fluglinien gekappt sind.

TUI: Realistic plans for cruises this summer
Against the background of the corona pandemic, the cruise lines have so far only announced the extension of the suspension of their cruises, thereby suggesting that afterwards they will continue as usual and booked. It is however highly unrealistic to resume booked cruises this summer.
Short cruises with passenger limits
The German tourism group TUI is now revealing first cautious plans for cruises this summer, which are more realistic. Obviously, the primary consideration here is short cruises, probably with a focus on the North Sea. The maximum passenger limit should be less than 1,000 per ship. Health measures
The measures on board include the elimination of self-service in restaurants and a maximum of 10 children in the kids clubs. Where is the journey going to?

Our Video: Hapag-Lloyd Cruises brought ships home
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises have now brought four ships from their fleet home: the EUROPA, EUROPA 2 and HANSEATIC inspiration arrived in Hamburg on May 2nd. HANSEATIC nature had arrived in Hamburg a few days earlier already.
The HANSEATIC inspiration and HANSEATIC nature are now both moored at Blohm & Voss yard, the EUROPA is moored at O’swaldkai and the EUROPA 2 at Cruise Center Altona. Hamburg is currently home to 6 cruise ships, because there are also two AIDA ships at the Steinwerder Cruise Center.
