With a gross tonnage of 169,000, she will be approximately 10 percent larger than her Leonardo-class predecessors. She will accommodate 3,840 passengers based on double occupancy. The NORWEGIAN AURA is scheduled to set sail for the first time in 2027, beginning with a short spring season in Europe starting in May 2027. From June 2027, she will be deployed for Caribbean cruises with Miami as her home port – that’s the plan.

Since September 25, the NORWEGIAN JEWEL has been in the dry dock at the Chantier Naval de Marseille shipyard for technical and general maintenance work. In addition to this work, the cruise ship will receive upgrades to its public areas and a new Vibe Beach Club.
After the shipyard stay, the NORWEGIAN JEWEL will conduct a positioning cruise across the Atlantic. During the upcoming winter season, she will be used for voyages to the Bahamas, the Panama Canal, and the southern Caribbean. Her base port will be Miami.

Renamed NEW DAWN, then SUN BRIGHT, and finally RIGHT, the former CELESTYAL CRYSTAL was beached in Alang, India, on May 14. The sleek liner will now be scrapped there. This marks the end of this ship’s eventful and unusual history.
It was built in 1980 as the car and passenger ferry VIKING SAGA (IMO 7827213) by Wärtsilä in Turku, renamed SALLY ALBATROSS in 1986 and used for cruises in the Baltic Sea. In 1988, she underwent a conversion at Schichau-Seebeck in Bremerhaven.
A fire at the Finnboda shipyard in Stockholm in 1990 damaged large parts of the ship’s hull. Ultimately, the hull and machinery were able to be reused. The ship was converted into a cruise ship with a completely different appearance and then re-entered service under the name SALLY ALBATROSS.
From 1994 to 2000, the ship sailed under the name LEEWARD on charter for Norwegian Cruise Line, then from 2000 to 2001 for Star Cruises under the name SUPERSTAR TAURUS. In 2002, the cruise liner was acquired by Silja Line, which returned her to the Baltic Sea to operate her for short cruises under the name SILA OPERA.
After a layup period from 2006 to 2007, the cruise ship entered its final phase. It was acquired by Louis Cruises for use on Mediterranean cruises under the name CRISTAL resp. LOUIS CRISTAL. With the renaming of Louis Cruises to Celestyal Cruises, the ship was renamed CELESTYAL CRYSTAL. She remained in service until 2023.
Ein Überblick über die bewegte Geschichte des Schiffs
Umbenannt in NEW DAWN, dann in SUN BRIGHT und schließlich in RIGHT wurde die ehemalige CELESTYAL CRYSTAL am 14. Mai im indischen Alang auf Strand gesetzt. Dort wird der schnittige Liner nun verschrottet. Damit endet die bewegte und ungewöhnliche Geschichte dieses Schiffs.
Es wurde 1980 als Auto- und Passagierfähre VIKING SAGA (IMO 7827213) bei Wärtsilä in Turku gebaut, 1986 in SALLY ALBATROSS umbenannt und für Kreuzfahrten in der Ostsee eingesetzt. 1988 erfolgte ein Umbau bei Schichau-Seebeck in Bremerhaven.
Bei einem Brand auf der Finnboda-Werft in Stockholm im Jahr 1990 wurden große Teile des Schiffsrumpfs beschädigt. Am Ende konnte der Rumpf und die Maschinenanlage weiter verwendet werden. Das Schiff wurde zu einem Kreuzfahrtschiff mit gänzlich anderem Aussehen umgebaut und dann erneut unter dem Namen SALLY ALBATROSS eingesetzt.

Am 13. April 2025 wurde NORWEGIAN AQUA (IMO 9824007) in Miami getauft. Taufpate war Schauspieler Eric Stonestreet, bekannt hauptsächlich durch seine Rollen in verschiedenen US-Fernseh-Serien.
NORWEGIAN AQUA ist das erste Schiff der Leonardo-Plus-Klasse für Norwegian Cruise Line. Es ist etwa 10% größer als seine Schwesterschiffe NORWEGIAN PRIMA und NORWEGIAN VIVA.

Norwegian Cruise Line stellt ihr nächstes Kreuzfahrtschiff der Prima-Plus-Klasse vor: die NORWEGIAN LUNA. NORWEGIAN LUNA wird mit einer Länge von 322 Metern und einer Bruttoraumzahl von 156.300 ein Schwesterschiff der NORWEGIAN AQUA, welche bis März 2025 fertiggestellt werden soll. An Bord der NORWEGIAN LUNA wird man u.a. eine Aqua Slide Coaster finden, eine Kombination aus Achterbahn und Wasserrutsche, die erstmals auf der NORWEGIAN AQUA installiert wird. Zu den weiteren Attraktionen an Bord gehört The Drop, eine Freifallrutsche über 10 Decks.

Norwegian Cruise Line is introducing the next Prima Plus class cruise ship: the NORWEGIAN LUNA. The hull artwork of this cruise ship was designed by US street artist ELLE. According to her own statements, she was inspired by the moonlight over the sea at night.
The NORWEGIAN LUNA is scheduled to enter service in spring 2026 and will set sail for her first Caribbean cruise on April 4, 2026. In her first season, she will be used for cruises to the western and eastern Caribbean.
With a length of 322 meters and a gross tonnage of 156,300, NORWEGIAN LUNA will be a sister ship to the NORWEGIAN AQUA, which is scheduled to be completed by March 2025. On board the NORWEGIAN LUNA you will find an Aqua Slide Coaster, a combination of roller coaster and water slide, which will be installed for the first time on the NORWEGIAN AQUA. Other attractions on board include The Drop, a free fall slide over 10 decks.

Historisch betrachtet symbolisieren diese Münzen eine Opfergabe an die alten Götter und Göttinnen des Meeres im Austausch für Glück und eine allzeit sichere Fahrt. Im Anschluss an die Zeremonie segnete ein örtlicher Geistlicher das Schiff und ließ feierlich eine Flasche Champagner am Schiffsrumpf zerschellen.

On April 23rd, the NORWEGIAN AQUA (IMO 9824007) was floated out at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera near Venice. This marked an important milestone in the construction of the latest newbuild for Norwegian Cruise Line. NORWEGIAN AQUA will be the first Prima Plus class ship. She will be around 10% larger than her two predecessor ships NORWEGIAN PRIMA and NORWEGIAN VIVA.
As part of the float out ceremony, two coins were welded into the hull of the NORWEGIAN AQUA in a maritime tradition. Historically, these coins symbolize an offering to the ancient gods and goddesses of the sea in exchange for good luck and safe travel at all times. Following the ceremony, a local priest blessed the ship and ceremoniously smashed a bottle of champagne against the hull.
NORWEIGAN AQUA will have a gross tonnage of 156,300 and a length of 322 meters. Norwegian Cruise Line announces several new features for the ship: the Aqua Slidecoaster, the first hybrid roller coaster and water slide; the Glow Court, a new digital sports complex with an interactive LED floor, and Ocean Boulevard, NCL’s largest 360-degree outdoor promenade to date, Ocean Boulevard. The first three-bedroom duplex suites can be found in the luxurious The Haven by Norwegian®.

Additionally, The Haven Premier Owners Suites, the most luxurious cabins on board, have been redesigned.

Taufpate war Luis Fonsi, Musiker, Sänger, und Produzent. Er taufte das Schiff offiziell auf den Namen NORWEGIAN VIVA, indem er traditionsgemäß eine Champagner-Flasche am Bug zerschellen ließ. Auf der anschließenden Party gab Luis Fonsi einige seiner Hits zum Besten, darunter „Despacito“ oder „Echame La Culpa“.
Mit der NORWEGIAN AQUA wird ein drittes, etwas größeres Schiff dieser Klasse gebaut.

On November 28, 2023, the NORWEGIAN VIVA was christened in Miami. The naming ceremony was attended by David J. Herrera, President Norwegian Cruise Line and Harry Sommer, President + CEO Norwegian Cruise Line Holding. Godfather was Luis Fonsi, musician, singer and producer. He officially named the ship NORWEGIAN VIVA by traditionally smashing a champagne bottle on the bow. At the party afterwards, Luis Fonsi performed some of his hits, including “Despacito” and “Echame La Culpa”.

With 156,300 gross tons, the cruise ship will be around 10 percent larger than its two predecessor ships, the NORWEGIAN PRIMA and NORWEGIAN VIVA. The NORWEGIAN AQUA will accommodate more than 3,500 passengers.
For the first time, Norwegian Cruise Line has chosen a female artist to design the hull painting for the NORWEGIAN AQUA. Allison Hueman, known for her street art and several brand collaborations, including with Nike and Google, has created a lively, colorful Hull art work. The design has the motto “Where the sky meets the sea” and features abstract and figurative depictions of sky and sea.
NORWEGIAN AQUA is scheduled to set sail with guests for the first time in April 2025. Her base port will be Port Canaveral.
