AMUSEMENT WORLD ist in Alang eingetroffen

Die 54 Jahre alte AMUSEMENT WORLD ist am 4. August 2021 im indischen Alang eingetroffen, um verschrottet zu werden.

Das Schiff war 1967 auf der Lindholmen Varv im schwedischen Göteborg als Auto- und Passagierfähre PATRICIA (IMO 6620773) gebaut worden. 10 Jahre lang war es zunächst für den Svenska Lloyd auf der Route Southampton / Bilbao eingesetzt worden.

Ab 1978 fuhr die Fähre für Stena Line unter den Namen STENA OCEANICA, STENA SAGA sowie CROWN PRINCESS VICTORIA. Das Schiff erfuhr in seiner weiteren Karriere weitere Namens- und Eigner-Wechsel.

Ab 1998 wurde das mehrfach umgebaute Schiff unter dem Namen AMUSEMENT WORLD für Kurz-Kreuzfahrten n in Südost-Asien eingesetzt.

Nun erfolgt die Verschrottung des einst stolzen Liners.

Classic Swedish liner arrived for scrapping in Alang

The 54-year-old AMUSEMENT WORLD arrived in Alang, India on August 4, 202, in order to be scrapped.

The ship was built in 1967 on the Lindholmen Varv in Gothenburg, Sweden, as a car and passenger ferry PATRICIA (IMO 6620773). She was initially operated by Svenska Lloyd on the Southampton / Bilbao route for 10 years. From 1978 the ferry operated for Stena Line under the names STENA OCEANICA, STENA SAGA and CROWN PRINCESS VICTORIA.

The ship experienced further name and owner changes in its further career. From 1998 the ship, which was rebuilt several times, was used for short cruises in Southeast Asia under the name AMUSEMENT WORLD. Now the once proud liner is going to be scrapped.

LE COMMANDANT CHARCOT übergeben

Die französische Kreuzfahrtgesellschaft Ponant hat am 2. August ihren jüngsten Flottenzugang von der norwegischen VARD-Werft übernommen. Dabei handelt es sich um den Luxus-Eisbrecher LE COMMANDANT CHARCOT (IMO 9846249), konzipiert für exklusive Expeditions-Kreuzfahrten.

Das 150 Meter lange Schiff verfügt über Eisklasse PC 2. Es ist ausgelegt für 245 Passagiere in 123 Kabinen. Die Besatzungsstärke beträgt 235.

Der Rumpf des Schiffs war auf der VARD-Werft im rumänischen Tulcea gebaut worden, der komplette Innen-Ausbau war auf der VARD-Werft im norwegischen Søviknes gebaut worden.

Ponant took delivery of luxury icebreaker LE COMMANDANT CHARCOT.

On August 2nd, the French cruise line Ponant took over its latest fleet addition from the Norwegian VARD shipyard. It is the luxury icebreaker LE COMMANDANT CHARCOT (IMO 9846249), designed for exclusive expedition cruises. The 150 meter long ship has polar class PC 2. She is designed for 245 passengers in 123 cabins. The hull of the ship was built on the VARD shipyard in Tulcea, Romania, the entire interior was built on the VARD shipyard in Søviknes, Norway.

Drittes Schiff der Pinnacle-Klasse übergeben.

Mit der ROTTERDAM (IMO 9837470) haben Holland America Lines ihr drittes Schiff der Pinnacle-Klasse übernommen – nach der KONINGSDAM und NIEUW STATENDAM.

Die Übergabe der ROTTERDAM fand am 29. Juli auf der Fincantieri-Werft in Marghera statt. Die ROTTERDAM ist das 11. Schiff der Flotte von Holland America Lines.

Seinen Dienst wird der neue Cruise Liner allerdings erst mit einer Transatlantik-Reise am 20. Oktober ab Amsterdam aufnehmen.

With the ROTTERDAM (IMO 9837470) Holland America Lines have taken over their third Pinnacle class ship – after the KONINGSDAM and NIEUW STATENDAM. The handover of the ROTTERDAM took place on July 29th at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera.

The ROTTERDAM is the 11th ship in Holland America Lines‘ fleet. However, the new cruise liner will not begin its service until a transatlantic voyage from Amsterdam on October 20th.

Meyer-Werft sichert sich Neubau-Auftrag von Ocean Residences

Außergewöhnliche Order für Meyer

Ocean Residences mit sitz auf Malta beauftragen die Meyer-Werft mit dem Bau eines Residenz-Schiffs mit Namen NJORD. Das Schiff soll 290 Meter lang und mit 118 Appartments ausgestattet werden.

An Bord der M/Y NJORD soll auch ein ozeanographisches und atmosphärisches Labor mit hochwertiger technischer Ausstattung eingerichtet werden. Dazu gehören u.a. Drohnen sowie ein Teleskop. Wissenschaftler und Experten sollen während der Reisen rund um den Globus Daten zu Umwelt-, Meeres- und Luftbedingungen sammeln sowie neue Karten vom Meeresgrund erstellen. Alle gesammelten Daten sollen der Allgemeinheit zur Verfügung gestellt werden.

Ursprünglich hatten Ocean Residences geplant, dieses Schiff bei Brodosplit sowie der norwegischen Kleven-Werft bauen zu lassen.

Meyer-Werft securing new order from Ocean Residences

Ocean Residences, based in Malta, will have their residence ship called NJORD constructed by Meyer. The ship is to be 290 meters long and equipped with 118 apartments.

An oceanographic and atmospheric laboratory with high-quality technical equipment is also to be set up on board the M / Y NJORD. These include drones and a telescope. Scientists and experts are supposed to collect data on environmental, marine and air conditions and create new maps of the ocean floor while traveling around the globe. All collected data should be made available to the general public.

Ocean Residences originally planned to have this ship built by Brodosplit and the Norwegian Kleven shipyard.

Schiffs-Taufe in Piräus

Am 28. Juli 2021 wurde die SILVER MOON, jüngstes Kreuzfahrtschiff von Silversea Cruises, offiziell getauft. Die Tauf-Zeremonie des bereits im November 2020 abgelieferten Luxus-Kreuzfahrtschiffs fand in Piräus statt. Taufpatin war die Italienerin Gaia Gaja vom Weingut Gaja im Piemont.

Die SILVER MOON (IMO 9838618) war auf der Fincantieri-Werft in Ancona gebaut worden. Sie ist 212,80 Meter lang und bietet Platz für 1.040 Passagiere.

Naming Ceremony for Luxury Cruise Liner SILVER MOON

The SILVER MOON, the youngest Silversea cruise ship, was officially christened on July 28, 2021. The christening ceremony of the luxury cruise ship, which had already been delivered in November 2020, took place in Piraeus. Godmother was the Italian Gaia Gaja from the Gaja winery in Piemont. The SILVER MOON (IMO 9838618) was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona. She is 212.80 meters long and has a passenger capacity of 1,040 passengers.

Erstes Schiff der Seaside Evo-Klasse wurde übergeben

MSC Cruises haben ihr neues Flaggschiff, die MSC SEASHORE, übernommen. Die Übergabe fand auf der Fincantieri-Werft in Monfalcone statt. Das für bis zu 4.560 Passagiere ist sowohl das größte der Flotte der MSC Cruises als auch das größte je in Italien gebaute Passagierschiff. Die MSC SEASHORE ist das erste der Seaside-Evo-Klasse und das 19. Kreuzfahrtschiff von MSC Cruises.

Mit der MSC SEASCAPE ist bereits ein weiteres Schiff dieser Klasse in Bau.

MSC SEASHORE delivered

The first Seaside Evo class cruise ship was handed over to MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises have taken over their new flagship, the MSC SEASHORE. The handover took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone. The up to 4,560 passenger ship is both the largest in the MSC Cruises fleet and the largest passenger ship ever built in Italy. The MSC SEASHORE is the first Seaside Evo class ship and the 19th cruise ship in the MSC Cruises fleet.

With the MSC SEASCAPE, another ship of this class is already under construction with delivery scheduled for November 2022.

Große Schiffstaufe in Reykjavik

Am 22. Juli wurde in Reykjavik auf Island die NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE getauft. Die Schiffstaufe erfolgte mehr als ein Jahr nach der Übernahme des Schiffs von der Bauwerft und war insofern etwas Besonderes, als dass sie die erste Taufe eines international operierenden Kreuzfahrtschiffs in Reykjavik war. Taufpatinnen waren Jen Martin und Ana Esteves, zwei Direktorinnen aus der Führungsebene von Lindblad Expeditions. Sie gaben dem außergewöhnlichen Flaggschiff der Gesellschaft offiziell den Namen NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE, angelehnt an den Namen ENDURANCE. Diese war einst eines von zwei Schiffen der Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition unter der Leitung des britischen Polarforschers Ernest Shackleton.

Unique naming ceremony in Reykjavik

On July 22nd, the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE was christened in Reykjavik, Iceland. The christening took place more than a year after the ship was taken over from the shipyard and was special in that it was the first christening of an internationally operating cruise ship in Reykjavik. Godmothers were Jen Martin and Ana Esteves, two directors from the executive level of Lindblad Expeditions. They officially named the extraordinary flagship of the company NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE, based on the name ENDURANCE. This was once one of two ships of the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition led by the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton.

MSC VIRTUOSA: Taufe in Dubai

Sie ist das jüngste Schiff der Meraviglia-Plus-Klasse: die 2019 / 2020 auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique im französischen Saint Nazaire gebaute MSC VIRTUOSA (IMO 9803625). Derzeit dreht sie schon ihre Kreuzfahrt-Runden rund um Großbritannien, ihre Taufe steht jedoch noch aus. Diese soll aber nachgeholt werden, nämlich am 27. November dieses Jahres in Dubai.

Die Zeremonie wird dann eines von vielen Events im Rahmen der Expo 2020, deren Beginn auf Oktober 2021 verschoben wurde, sowie des Golden Jubilee-Programms zum 50jährigen Bestehen der Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate.

MSC VIRTUOSA ist 331,43 Meter lang und mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 181.541 vermessen. Sie verfügt über 2.440 Passagierkabinen und kann somit maximal 6.334 Passagiere aufnehmen.

Die ALBATROS wird nun doch verschrottet

Schicksal des dritten Schwesterschiffs ebenfalls ungewiss

Nur etwa neun Monate, nachdem Phoenix-Reisen den Verkauf ihrer ALBATROS (IMO 7304314) nach Ägypten verkündet hatte, steht nun fest, dass der Cruiser Liner nicht wie angekündigt zu einem Hotel-Schiff umgebaut wird, sondern im indischen Alang verschrottet werden soll.

Bereits im Mai dieses Jahres war das Schwesterschiff BOUDICCA (IMO 7218395) im türkischen Aliaga auf den Strand gesetzt worden. Damit verbleibt von den berühmten drei Royal Viking-Schwestern nur noch die BLACK WATCH (IMO 7108930). Derzeit in der Nähe von Istanbul aufgelegt, ist jedoch auch ihr Schicksal ungewiss.

Only about nine months after Phoenix-Reisen announced the sale of their ALBATROS (IMO 7304314) to Egypt, it is now certain that the cruiser liner will not be converted into a hotel ship as announced, but will be scrapped in Alang, India.

Already in May of this year, the sister ship BOUDICCA (IMO 7218395) was beached in Aliaga, Turkey. This leaves only the BLACK WATCH (IMO 7108930) of the famous three Royal Viking sisters. Currently laid up near Istanbul, her fate is also uncertain.

Die US-amerikanische Reederei SunStone Ships haben mit der OCEAN EXPLORER (IMO 9883194) ihr nächstes Schiff der Infinity-Klasse von der Bauwerft China Merchants Heavy Industries in Haimen übernommen. Das Expeditionskreuzfahrtschiff mit einer Bruttoraumzahl von 8035 ist 104,40 Meter lang und für 170 Passagiere in 77 Kabinen ausgelegt. Es handelt sich bei dem Cruise Liner um ein Schiff mit innovativem X-Bow. Charterer der OCEAN EXPLORER ist Vantage Cruise Line.

Typschiff der Infinity-Klasse ist die im September 2019 für Aurora Expeditions abgelieferte GREG MORTIMER (IMO 9834648). In diesem Jahr sollen mit der OCEAN VICTORY (IMO 9868869) und SYLIVA EARLE (IMO 9872327) noch zwei weitere Schiffe der Infinity-Klasse abgeliefert werden.

SunStone Ships have taken over their next Infinity class ship, the OCEAN EXPLORER (IMO 9883194), from the shipyard China Merchants Heavy Industries in Haimen. The expedition cruise ship with a gross tonnage of 8035 is 104.40 meters long and designed for 170 passengers in 77 cabins. The Cruise Liner is a ship with an innovative X-Bow. OCEAN EXPLORER’s charterer is Vantage Cruise Line.

The first completed Infinity class ship was the GREG MORTIMER (IMO 9834648), which was delivered in September 2019 for Aurora Expeditions. This year, with the OCEAN VICTORY (IMO 9868869) and SYLIVA EARLE (IMO 9872327), two more Infinity class ships are to be delivered.

Ausdocken und Auslaufen – Die Wochenend-Highlights auf deutschen Werften

Meilensteine in Papenburg und Stralsund

Das zurück liegende Wochenende hatte zwei große Highlights für den Kreuzfahrtschiffbau in Deutschland zu bieten:

Am Samstag, den 10. Juli, wurde auf der Meyer-Werft in Papenburg die AIDAcosma (IMO 9781877) aus der Bauhalle ausgedockt und an die Ausrüstungspier verholt – stets ein wichtiger Meilenstein für die Schiffbauer in Papenburg. Die Ems-Überführung soll im Oktober stattfinden und die Jungfernfahrt am 22. Dezember in Hamburg starten, wenn alles gut geht.

Das zweite Highlight des Wochenendes war das finale Auslaufen der CRYSTAL ENDEAVOR (IMO 9821873) von den MV-Werften in Stralsund. Die Übergabe an die Reederei und die Taufe durch Ministerpräsidentin Manuela Schwesig war am 26. Juni erfolgt. In Kürze soll sich die CRYSTAL ENDEAVOR auf den Weg nach Island machen.

The weekend highlights on German shipyards

Milestones in Papenburg and Stralsund

The past weekend had two major highlights for cruise ship building in Germany:

On Saturday, July 10th, the AIDAcosma (IMO 9781877) was floaeted out from the construction hall at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg and moved to the equipment pier – always an important milestone for the shipbuilders in Papenburg. The river Ems transit is scheduled to take place in October and the maiden voyage will start in Hamburg on December 22nd, if all goes well.

The second highlight of the weekend was the final departure of the CRYSTAL ENDEAVOR (IMO 9821873) from the MV shipyards in Stralsund. The handover to the shipping company and the christening by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig took place on June 26th. The CRYSTAL ENDEAVOR will soon be on her way to Iceland.

Die vielleicht außergewöhnlichste Schiffstaufe des Jahres

Am 24. August soll die HANSEATIC spirit (IMO 9857640) , der dritte Neubau der Expeditionsklasse für Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, der Ende Juni von der norwegischen VARD-Werft abgeliefert wurde, getauft werden. Die Taufe findet diesmal vor der Nordsee-Insel Helgoland statt, und zwar im Rahmen einer fünftägigen Taufreise, die in Hamburg beginnt und endet. Neben den Taufgästen von Bord sind die Helgoländer sowie Inselgäste eingeladen, der Taufzeremonie beizuwohnen. Dazu sollen sich Taufgäste und Zuschauer in die bordeigenen Zodiacs der HANSEATIC spirit bzw. in Helgoländer Börteboote (inseleigene Tenderboote) oder andere vor Ort befindliche Boote begeben. Nähere Einzelheiten zum Ablauf der Feierlichkeiten wurden bisher nicht gemacht. Wer sich jedoch an die Taufe des Schwesterschiffs HANSEATIC inspiration erinnnert, bekommt eine Vorstellung von dem, was geplant sein könnte.

The HANSEATIC spirit, the third expedition class newbuild for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, which was delivered by the Norwegian VARD shipyard at the end of June, is to be christened on August 24. This time the naming ceremony will take place near the North Sea island of Heligoland as part of a five-day voyage that will start and end in Hamburg. In addition to the christening guests on board, the Heligoland and island guests are invited to attend the naming ceremony. For this purpose, guests and spectators should board the HANSEATIC spirit owned Zodiacs resp. the Heligoland based tender boats (“Börte” boats)  or other boats on site. More details about the course of the celebrations have not yet been revealed. Und Baubeginn für drittes Schiff für Swan Hellenic

Am 23. Juni wurde die für Swan Hellenic Cruises auf der Helsinki Shipyard in Bau befindliche SH MINERVA ausgedockt. Nur wenige Tage zuvor war auf der Werft bereits mit dem dritten Neubau für Swan Hellenic Cruises begonnen worden.

Das mit 10.500 gross tons vermessene und für 152 Passagiere ausgelegte Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff SH MINERVA soll im November 2021 abgeliefert werden, die zwei weiteren Schiffe folgen im Frühjahr und Herbst 2022.

Auf den Chantiers de l’Atlantique im französischen Saint Nazaire wurde dieser Tage mit dem Bau der MSC EURIBIA begonnen. Dabei handelt es sich um das dritte Schiff der Meraviglia-Plus-Klasse und um MSC Cruises‘ zweites LNG-betriebenes Kreuzfahrtschiff. Nach Angaben von MSC Cruises wird die MSC EURIBIA das bisher fortschrittlichste Kreuzfahrtschiff in Sachen Umwelt-Nachhaltigkeit.

Die MSC EURIBIA soll im November 2023 in Fahrt kommen.

LNG-powered cruise ship for MSC Cruises

At the Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint Nazaire, France, construction of the MSC EURIBIA has started these days. This is the third Meraviglia Plus class ship and MSC Cruises‘ second LNG-powered cruise ship. According to the announcement by MSC Cruises, the MSC EURIBIA will be the most advanced cruise ship to date in terms of environmental sustainability.

The MSC EURIBIA is scheduled to go into service in November 2023.

Weiteres Schiff für Virgin zeitgleich bereits ausgedockt

VIRGIN VOYAGES haben am 1. Juli 2021 ihre VALIANT LADY von Fincantieri in Sestri Ponente (Genua) übernommen. Das mit 110.000 Gross tons vermessene Kreuzfahrtschiff ist mit einer Länge von 278 Metern für 2.770 Passagiere in 1.400 Kabinen ausgelegt. Die VALIANT LADY (IMO 9805336) ist ein Schwesterschiff der im Februar 2020 abgelieferten SCARLET LADY (IMO 9804801). Das dritte dieser Reihe imposanter Kreuzfahrtschiffe, die RESILIENT LADY, wurde am 1. Juli bereits ausgedockt.

Virgin Voyages: Impressive VALIANT LADY delivered

VIRGIN VOYAGES took over their VALIANT LADY from Fincantieri in Sestri Ponente (Genoa) on July 1st, 2021. The cruise ship, measured at 110,000 gross tons, is 278 meters long and designed for 2,770 passengers in 1,400 cabins. The VALIANT LADY (IMO 9805336) is a sister ship to the SCARLET LADY (IMO 9804801), which was delivered in February 2020. The third of this series of impressive cruise ships, the RESILIENT LADY, was floated on July 1st already.
